  1. Submitted for your approval, a movie set during the Mozambique civil war (1977-1992). A boy and an old man travel as best they can, wary of gun-toting gangs and danger just off the road. This was part of Turner Classic Movies "Women in the movies" segment, and included "Je, Tu, Il, Elle" (1974) by Chantal Akerman. Harsh reality gives way to dreams, as the duo travels toward the sea.

I came across the tune/song "Soldier's Joy" in the original soundtrack recording of "Liberty! The American Revolution," where Mark O'Connor played a zippy fiddle/violin-based version. Here is a guitar+banjo version that sounds at home at a Civil War campfire. Since Memorial Day began as "Decoration Day," to honor Civil War soldiers past and present, enjoy a little down time before the next "crash of arms." Jimmy Driftwood put words to this old tune... Guy Clark sang of a wounded soldier's need for some "Soldier's Joy"
