  1. Way before AC/DC a band called Back Street Crawler (Paul Kossof after Free) had a great song with the line...'it's a long way down to the top'.... I've always thought the line...'it's hard to say you love someone...but it's hard to say you don't' sums up human relationships rather well.
  2. Seminal 70's exponents of bluesy, jazzrock progressive funk are reforming with the original line-up and recording new material with possible tour. They were pretty huge in Canada and North America and most of Europe although they were from the UK. Look in Yahoo groups for the fans. ::
  3. Anything with Mike Barson (?) pianist on Alladin Sane, Life on Mars etc. awesome atonal, chromatic and still melodic. ::
  4. I read recently that the 'Number of the Beast' had been revised since they re-translated the ancient writings that they'd come from. Apparently it should have been 689 or something (I'll go look it up).... ....also, I like the idea of '668....the neighbour of the beast'...has a nice ring to it
  5. No, Neil Diamond and Carole King wrote their best stuff....I'll give you that, but Davey Jones did bash a cute tambourine :: As for volume over quality, well the US does have five times the population so it makes sense that they'd have five times as many sad imitations of the real thing. Rush were Canadian too weren't they? The more I think about it the harder it is to think of REALLY good US bands....I mean Styx, Journey, Metallica...give it a rest ::
  6. US?....I think not, however I will acknowledge some help from across the pond...Brits all the way for the first part of their career. Buckingham Nicks were a tidy outfit before F Mac...but basically a folk duo. Wasn't (isn't) Joni Mitchell Canadian? When you add it all up, apart from Zappa and Hendrix, the US look a bit lacklustre in these comparisons....even a quarter of the Monkees were British. :: ::
  7. Still in Love with You...Thin Lizzy live version :guitar: :guitar:
  8. Parisienne Walkways...Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy) :guitar:
  9. Not the only one...but I personally can't hear it...they're called 'My Morning Racket' in this house ::
  10. Always With You, Always With Me....Satriani :guitar: :guitar:
  11. It could have been 'place' 'town''joint' or even dump.It may just have been, 'what's a girl like you...doing in a place (dump, joint etc.) like this. It was a slow, rather mournful song (not rap or fast or heavy. I've trawled google for the link myself and never found it. The band were probably called The Something or Others, ie. The Blood, or The Others, or The 'Something' I'm sure they weren't ever that big. I mentioned Sad Cafe as the sort of band and type of music that it sounded like...I'm pretty sure it wasn't them. I was hoping it would jog someone's memory...a bit like Toni Childs seemd to. Thanks for trying. Cheers JG
  12. OK, you guys and Gals are so good, this one my be harder. About 10 years ago I switched on and heard the end of a song on the radio and loved it...of course the DJ didn't say who it was (don't you hate it when they do that?) Anyway...all I can remember was the line 'what's a nice girl like you doing in a town like this?' Male singer...probably a band, deep voice, sounded like it could've been Sad Cafe but I don't think it was...any ideas? I wanted to find it because I thought our band could cover it...too late now, but I'd still like to find it. Cheers JG
  13. I've ordered Union off Amazon...I was tempted by the Ultimate collection but my experiences with 'Best Of's is that they nearly always include duffers (I didn't much like her version of 'Many Rivers to Cross' and they always leave off one of my favourites (like Dreamers)...I had precisely that experience with 'Till Tuesday' best of and Montrose...so now I stick to the originals....anyone else agree? By-the-way...'Till Tuesday...top band anyone? Aimee mann before she was famous...terrific second album...you don't need the others. JMHO (and I've got them all)
  14. Brilliant! got it in one...you guys (girls) are gooooood! Of to Amazon now to buy it. Great Album. Thank you Thank you
  15. Years ago (early 90's) I had a wonderful album by a female vocallist which had tracks on it called 'Where's the Ocean?' and Zimbabwe....whatchya gonna do Zimbabwe...aaaay aaay aaay. I can't remember the name of the artist...or any of the other tracks...just that I can't get some of the tunes out of my head. Foolishly I lent it to someone...and it was never seen again. Does this ring any bells with anyone? She was white...long curly hair, great soulful voice...anyone? Cheers JG
  16. VH Slow though I am to anger...and suspicious I am of a wind up, I never thought I would find such a dork so annoying. You clearly know a) Diddly squat and are B An [bleep] You will eventually grow up and be ashamed of your ignorant mewlings (I hope). EVH is an awesome guitarist..but, he did not invent tapping (he took it to new heights) and he is somwhere way down the line (maybe in the top 20) of 'top guitarists' JMH (and considered) opinion. :guitar: (PS and I can play a bit)
  17. I saw him playing with John Mayall a few months back and he looked like he was born in 1874. Also JM's other guitarist was awesome. :guitar:
  18. UFO Rock Bottom riff....Schenker at his best and a damned site more difficult to play than it sounds. Even harder (ie I can't do it ) Satch Boogie riff by Satriani. For 'composed' solo that is brief, melodic and to the point with a bit of viruosity thrown in I would also go with The Eric Bell solo for Whiskey in the Jar by Thin Lizzy....and anyone who even suggest that Metallica's version deserves to even reside on the same planet may rot forever in a dungheap of their own bad taste, foul ignorant heathens that they are :: JMHO
  19. PS Didn't Jimmy Page play Dazed and Confused live using a violin bow AND a Theremin with his Les Paul? ::
  20. I bet it wasn't an Ocarina in the Trogg's Wild Thing...much more likely it was a treble recorder. (See also 'Hitchin' a Ride') JMHO
  21. You'd like the Hayseed Dixies then....ever heard a violin solo on an AC/DC track...or Motorhead? You will from them. Good banjo too :guitar:
