  1. Top Band! They don't seem to reply to messages on their website though.
  2. Don't part with your cash until you have tried a 'Taylor'. Gorgeous guitars and they do a fine job of amplifying them too. Some models have built in tuners that can cope with altered tunings....they all have superb craftsmanship and are definitely 'pro standard' instruments.
  3. The Movies....well, no-one's ever heard of them...but they were ******* hot. JG
  4. Superb! Thanks for this. JG
  5. Oh, and if you're feeling flush and have a few spare quid....Double A, by the Movies, would complete your collection and you wouldn't need to own a single other piece of music, except maybe.....
  6. Well, it's a little known fact that there are only two albums that absolutely everyone on earth should own...Montrose 'Montrose' and Pink Moon by Nick Drake.... Everything else is an 'also ran'. IMHO
  7. You just gave me a great idea (probably been done before, but hey)...great opening 'hook' lines....try this 'Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove...'
  8. Go for this... http://www.classicalgas.com/home.html Anyone who's ever picked up a classical or steel strung acoustic should at least try to work out the intro to 'classical gas'. IMHO
  9. He always struck me as being a bit of a twat...as we would say in the UK. OK, he was not too bad on the guitar and he did seem to have some 'sound' references as far as musical tastes were concerned, but he really didn't create anything 'new' and was an egocentric 'arsehole' (anothe UK phrase) when it came to band politics....he thought he was Gods gift to music and women...the drugs and alcohol took their toll (fairly swiftly) and the smarter and more savvy intellects (Jagger and Richards) took over. He was definitely a catalyst...but nothing more. He was 'right place, right time' but not a great genius....'catalyst' is absolutely the right word. IMHO
  10. Well worth checking out. Making Plans for Nigel is a 'classic' but my favourite single of theirs was Senses Working Overtime. A greatest hits compilation, if such a thing exists, would be enjoyed by most folk with taste.
  11. Genesis....a couple of good tunes. Trick of the Tail...not bad. Personally thought they were waaay over-rated. Started as prog rock but ended up being regressive rock.... but Gabriel does a good show...check out his live DVD....awesome sound quality too.
  12. Well, spookily enough, amongst other things, I got his greatest hits this week (as well as KT Tunstall, Franz Ferds newie, two Gentle Giant, two Rory Gallaghers, a Truth, two Bob Rafleson's and a Henrik Levy)...his poetry is great. Check out the Spice Box of Earth....excellent stuff.
  13. I think they are 'difficult' in the sense that you either 'get' their music or you need to work at it (Gentle Giant that is). As for Soft Machine....I loved Bundles the first time I heard it and I still do now...but many folk would find it challenging too...superb drumming and million notes per second guitar (in places)...I am not a huge fan of 'progressive' rock...more a jazz fusionist. Rock purists would hate it. JMHO
  14. Bad Motor Scooter (Montrose) and, for that matter, Space Station No.5 by same. Itchycoo Park (Small Faces) May You Never (John Martyn) All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix version) all instantly recognisable and memorable.
  15. Bundles...top album (Soft Machine) By complete co-incidence I got both Octopus and Free Hand over the weekend...spooky (but not tooth)
  16. Check this guy out...saw him live last night...superb. Swedish singer/songwriter in the mode of Nick Drake...awesome guitar chops, nice voice (with an American accent from his time in the States), good songs, great website. If you've got broadband try this link for a live snippet from Swedish TV. http://www.tv4.se/bredband/categories.aspx?treeId=3013&pid=14852
  17. Well....I think 'Apostrophe' is genius throughout. Hot Rats...pretty damned good...Jazz from Hell...pretty challenging....and seeing him live was awesome, probably the best musicians in the world all in one band (Steve Vai on rhythm guitar :...all in all...yup, a genius. IMHO ::
  18. My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair...But Now They're Content to Wear Stars ? Seems to cover all the bases
  19. Him and his dad also hand coiled the pickups using miles of telephone wire...the lengths some people will go to... Does anyone remember Bill Nelson?....check out 'Crying to the Sky' from Be Bop Deluxe's third album for the most awesome , apocalyptic tone you will ever hear. :guitar:
  20. He also uses an old sixpenny coin as a pick...which may contribute to the tone. Anybody remember Bill Nelson ? (Be Bop Deluxe) ...absolutely awesome tone...never bettered in my humble opinion. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:
  21. Ditto the above...seen 'em twice...top new band and both albums are corkers...look out for the hidden tracks. :guitar:
