  1. I think the Korean response is affected by an incident a couple of years ago in Korea when two little girls were killed by a US army vehicle (accidentally) and hundreds of thousands took to the streets in Korea to protest at the 'evil' US army....I think they fear that the US have an even better excuse to protest back now. Just my theory.
  2. 'Young Girl' by Gary Puckett (and the Union Gap?) was an enormous hit when I was a young boy and had a very sing-a-long chorus...many people now think it had a darker subtext.
  3. 85% Mind you, if I leave the 'e' off the end of my wife's name (it's one of those names that can be spelled either way) it goes down 10%....weird.
  4. is only half the quote. This entered my lexicon and has been in frequent use for the last 30 years or so...great phrase. It is indeed from Slapstick, in the scene when the president isn't allowed into a night club and the doorman tells him to... RIP Kurt V.
  5. BF's computer is BF'd I think he'd want you to know that.
  6. Just thought this was a music site...that's all. Don't worry. Point taken. (only foolin'.... )
  7. Glad you were all so excited by the news too I think Prefab Sprout had one US hit...some godawful track off their second album, which mentions Elvis and Alberqueque in the same breath, therefore, bound to be a hit Stateside } . 'Steve McQueen' is their one and only true musical legacy...and it's really quite good.
  8. What was the estimated street value of his father anyway?
  9. Prefab Sprout's sui generis '80s pop epic, Steve McQueen is re-released in 2CD Legacy Edition form this week, and to celebrate Mojo and Sony BMG have signed artwork to give away. Digitally remastered by original producer Thomas Dolby, the original album is sounding spruce, while the second disc contains eight acoustic versions, which have been specially re-recorded for this release by Paddy McAloon. Faron Young gets a new ending, When Love Breaks Down a whole new key, and generally it's like an old friend in a new pair of glasses and the opposite of a boob job. Album fantastico!
  10. Whatever happened to Foxy...she liked a whole lotta stuff I liked...and I turned her on to Nick Drake...and John Martyn...and loads of stuff...where is she now?
  11. Nick Drake always gives me chills....Pink Moon, Northern Sky, Hazy Jane...they all do it for me. This is the best I could come up with on You Tube...he's been dead 30 years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE0ODrmaiFE
  12. This is one of my pet hates and I've raised it before...probably earlier in this thread. To English (well, Scottish in my case)ears he is definitely singing...'in which we live in'...he even seems to stress it slightly as if to emphasise the crapness of it...especially when added to the earlier 'in' in 'in this ever changing world', which, you will note is not 'changin' world' which is what he would have sung if he were a 'g' dropper...what he ain't. }
  13. Your Body is a Wonderland....John Mayer. Nice tune.
  14. I have the same problem with tats...my crush on Amy Winehouse wanes with every new piece of graffiti she has applied....it's like doodling on the cover of a beautiful first edition...it never enhances, only detracts...IMHO }
  15. I rather enjoyed that.....now for something more wholesome.
  16. I used to love keeping up a polyrhythmic beat to the gyrations of Janita Haan, however, I found myself discombobulated when trying the same trick to the pounding rhythms of the Immigrant Song.
  17. Rage Against the Machine have nicked more Zep riffs than any band ought to and got away with it. Mind you, the inclusion of Babe Ruth in your list betrays either your ignorance (have you ever heard them?) or your cloth ears...ok so Janita Haan did a canny Plant-like pose...and I know who I fancied most (although it was a close run thing)and the guitarist had long dark curly hair and played a black Les Paul.... but they were a Zappa/Ennio Morricone inspired progressive rock combo...I think you are getting your Zepps mixed up with your Zapps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMzhaCCG1So
  18. Worse still...he wrote 'Rock Me Gently'...gaaarghhh!
  19. 1964....possibly the best year ever for popular music.... I'll go for 'My Guy' Mary Wells...but, hey, so much to choose from.
  20. Kevin....I think you've missed something here. BF, for all that he can be a flatulent know-it-all, is grieving. I do hope I'm punctuating this correctly. Anyway...cut with the jokes...he's being serious. That's the trouble with irony...it's not a one-way street. He's not joking...he's hurting. Also....is that the 'number of the post'? (which, of course, will mean nothing if you reply...but, for the benefit of others was '6666'....at the time of writing)
  21. He is good...he's so good he's a bit frightening...but he's also wrong sometimes...so don't be afraid to diss him...he loves it really! Joe Strummer was adopted.
  22. I'm not sure that BF would like his name being taken in vain in this way, however, whatever he says about this, 'double backs-and-no-returns'... Bono is the anti-Christ...aint no doubt about it....he is Beelzebub. I'm amazed that the US have not cottoned on to his smooth sothern style and absolutely obvious resemblance to all the mephistopholean imagery that has percolated through their culture...the shades are more than enough for me...'sunglasses after dark'....anyone?
