  3. This is my ninth and most recent song inspired by watching the news, a somewhat dark ballad with a spiritual aspect, pop/rock tune. Almost Midnight (Written September 26, 2004 by Mike R. Smale © 2004) A child runs through the dark and vacant streets. He turns into an ally, then begins to weep. Running from a tortured past, and into a world unknown. Far away from the danger, but still, there's more to go. Almost midnight A man comes home many hours late, reeking of smoke and beer. He starts to holler at his wife, with words she will not to hear. Almost midnight Running from a tortured past, and into a world unknown. Far away from the danger, but still, there's more to go. Never quite at ease, troubled souls still wander. Heading for their paradise, wondering how much further. Someday soon the sun will rise again.
  4. This is my seventh song and third love song written for my girlfriend Jenny. This has made several of it's reader's cry, soft rock tune. Eternal Sunset (Written August 5, 2004 by Mike R. Smale © 2004) A painting by angels, a glimpse of paradise, A work of art, in the sky tonight. Like a perfect mirror, it reflects your beauty. As we stand out here, in the day's last light. Under the golden twilight sky, watching the stars with you by my side. The early moonlight glows in your eyes, in this eternal sunset. I'll eternally love you. (Eternal sunset) I'll eternally love you. So what it's getting darker, true love's blind anyway. I'll always be here with you, through every night and day. Under the golden twilight sky, watching the stars with you by my side. The early moonlight glows in your eyes, in this eternal sunset. I'll eternally love you. (Eternal sunset) I'll eternally love you. I'll eternally love you.
  5. This is my sixth song, written for my guitarist when he was having trouble with a girl he likes, it can also be applied to several other scenarios, heavy progressive rock tune. Mirror Manor (Written July 19, 2004 by Mike R. Smale © 2004) Is that really you, is this really me? Reflections in the mirrors, are all that I can see. I know you wouldn't do this to me. And this act, is just your fantasy. And I don't know, what this is all about. I talk to you, but no words come out. Escape. Escape from the Mirror Manor. Run away. Run from what's not real. I know that you care, but you simply ignore. I want to know the truth, but you disregard me more. And I don't know, what this is all about. I talk to you, but no words come out. Escape. Escape from the Mirror Manor. Run away. Run from what's not real. Tell me. Tell me what I mean to you. And I don't know, what this is all about. I talk to you, but no words come out. Escape. Escape from this Mirror Manor. Set us free. Let me believe we can love. Let me believe we can love.
  6. You are a very skilled writer, the songs you have posted here are filled with emotion and flow wonderfully. I only have 9 songs at this current moment (a 10th in the works) only because I suffered from writer's block from March 14 to July 19 when I was able to write my 6th song (I only had 3 poems in between too).
  7. My fifth song, inspired by history of the Middle Ages, it's not exactly accurate to the crusades since I put more modern views and events into it. Heavy progressive rock tune. The King's Crusade (Written March 13, 2004 by Mike R. Smale © 2004) [i. Overture] [iI. Reign of Poverty] A new king was elected, the crown placed on his head. The citizens got nothing, while he got all the bread. He raised all of the taxes, to benefit his court. He took away the farmlands, and the serfs were without work. Then one day he told the land, to head out to the east. "Jerusalem we must take back, so there can be some peace. Join me in this crusade and your sins shall be excused." Some people gave him support, while others where bemused. [iII. The War Begins] The streets were lined with protestors, fighting against war. The castle thrived with knights in armor, sure of what they're fighting for. But he started the campaign, despite protestors pleas. And they marched into the desert, and struck like a disease. The conflict thundered on and on, the sands were turning red. The king's battalion kept on fighting, till thousands were left dead. [iV. Revolution] Things back at the homeland, were much worse than before. The poor were getting poorer, and the rich were all now lords. The tyranny was clear now, the king hid behind his walls. The castle fell to revolution, as the people stormed the halls. Removed from the throne was the king... [V. Finale] The war was at an end now, but at an immense cost. What should never of happened, led to many loved ones lost.
  8. This is my fourth song (now it's in some order apart from Beach of Memories at number eight). Inspired by my graduation in 2005, it's about moving on, progressive rock tune. Along the Roadside (Written February 17, 2004 by Mike R. Smale ©2004) Standing on this empty road, everyone's gone their separate way. We all knew this day would come, and now the debt must be paid. The friends we made may be gone, but still are inside our hearts. They will be with us forever, even after the road parts. Don't leave me stranded, along the roadside. You're still in my heart but it's not the same; along the roadside. I wonder how you're doing, I've tired to keep in touch. But the time and space between us is simply way too much. Don't leave me stranded, along the roadside. Things just aren't the same without you. There are no guideposts, no signs or a single streetlight. The world is dark and lonely just like an eternal night. Don't leave me stranded, along the roadside. You're still in my heart but it's not the same; along the roadside.
  9. This is my third song (again I'm not going in order), inspired after hearing the countless self-improvement ads on TV, radio and internet. Pop/rock tune. The Greatest Masquerade (Written January 29, 2004 by Mike R. Smale © 2004) Everyday brings the same old thing, on the ads on TV. Telling me that I could be thinner, and how my life should really be. Using propaganda, telling me what clothes to wear. To them I'm just a number, and they don't really care. This way, that way, not your way. Do it like this, do what we say. It's just the greatest masquerade, just another big scheme. So don't listen to what they have to offer, it's just something that you don't need. Does it really matter if you can make my teeth white? Who can really see them when you're darkness blocks our light? Buy this now, order today. Do it like this, do what we say. It's just the greatest masquerade, just another big scheme. So don't listen to what they have to offer, it's just something that you don't need.
  10. Rush's first song was a cover of Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away on a single, they never really counted. I think Seven Bridges Road is a cover by the Eagles.
  11. Dire Straits- Your Latest Trick Bob Seger- Turn the Page Billy Joel- Scenes from an Italian Resturant (and many others) That's just a few.
  12. Where to begin? This off the top of my head: The Burbs' South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut The Birdcage Used Cars Mr. Blandfield(?) Builds His Dreamhouse Spaceballs Blazing Saddles The Producers Robin Hood: Men in Tights Young Frankenstien All Naked Gun films Any film with MST3K dubs A Christmas Story Kung Pow: Enter the Fist The 3 Scary Movies Caddyshack UHF Can't think of anymore just yet.
  13. U2- Sunday, Bloody Sunday (about a massacre in the 1920s) U2- Peace on Earth (the violence in Northern Ireland) Billy Joel- We Didn't Start the Fire (lits of historical events) Billy Joel- Goodnight Siagon (Vietnman War) Rush- Manhattan Project (the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan in 1945) Rush- Peaceable Kingdom (September 11) Rush- Red Sector A (The Holocaust) Rush- Countdown (about a space launch they witnessed) Iron Maiden- Run to the Hills (Europeans arriving in The New World) Bob Dylan- Hurricane (the boxer who was arrested for a murder he didn't commit) CSNY- Ohio (Kent State) The Eagles- The Last Resort (about how the westward expansion eliminated the Native American lands)
  14. I saw: Wierd Al (twice) Cher Aerosmith The Who The Rolling Stones Boston Rush
  15. I want to be a session bassist, and maybe move into my own solo career. I'm also a singer/songwriter and can play the piano as well as bass guitar (and guitar, flute, autoharp and harmonica). 3 of my songs are in the Creative Writing forum here. My piano teacher says I have what it takes to make it as a solo artist. But before I look into that I want to play clubs/bars etc with my band or by myself on piano during college for my job at that time, after leaving my father's home improvement buisness.
  16. My real name is so long that by the time you pronounced one sylable, a thousand galaxies will have been born and died. Actually my name is Mike, that's just a partial quote from Futurama.
  17. Dire Straits uses the Carasel Waltz as the intro to Tunnel of Love.
  18. I have a room like that in my basement (well not yet, but I'm working on it). Mostly I have Aerosmith, Journey, Bad Company, The Rolling Stones, The Who, etc. I took the origional "case" that the record came in, since the records are in awful condition and my both record players broke, I'm making a wallpaper out of old albums. I can't get images to load so I'd suggest (I made a mini collage of some of the albums I see here for my lyrics binder): Rush- Moving Pictures ELP- Brain Salad Surgery Dream Theater- A Change of Seasons The Rolling Stones- Voodoo Lounge The Beatles- Abbey Road
  19. This is my eigth song (I'm not posting in order). It's a short progressive rock song, guitar is powerful in this but the bass is more of the lead instrument. I would really appreciate some comments. Beach of Memories (Written August 15, 2004 by Mike R. Smale) Tales of long ago, are reflected in the sand. The seeds that the present sow, echo throughout this land. Images of days gone by, come to life along the shore. Showing every truth and lie, and days of peace and war. The Beach of Memories, everyday we live is here. The Beach of Memories, every laugh and every tear. The lightest hours, the darkest sins. What's exposed here shall happen again. The Beach of Memories, every laugh and every tear. The Beach of Memories, of every hour, of every year, everyday we live is here.
  20. Nirvana is WAY overrated, in addition to Metalica. Another one, guitar solos. I love em but I hear too many, and would perfer a piano or bass solo once in a while, and the guitar solo is all some people talk about if they don't know any lyrics or anything else in the song. Drum solos are great too, but they can get overrated, right now they're in between.
  21. I love that album! The whole thing is one whole song, and in total it's over an hour in length! Bass is underrated in some songs The Divine Comedy is an underrated band along with Dream Theater
  22. True, I can't stand Nirvana and think they're way overrated for a band that only had enough albums to count on one hand. Even if Cobain didn't die, they would have disbanded soon after thier second album becuase of thier heroin use. And modern bands do have a lack of talent, both in the music and their lyrics. It's too bad no one can write well like back in the days of rock and roll. Dream Theater is the only more recent band I like, and they've been around since 88.
  23. Any movie made fun of by Myster Science Theater 3000 is bad. The MST3K versions are the best, but watching them without the comments is torture, maybe after a few lobodomioes Manos: The Hands of Fate without comments may seem good.
  24. Has anyone else heard of this awesome Irish chamber pop band? I have an album by them and see them on the Celtic channel's TV show Wired. I just don't know of anyone else who knows of them.
  25. And what may I ask is so bad about Genesis? They rock! YES stinks. Owner of a Lonely Heart is the only good song, I love progressive rock but their's is just dull, very dull. I'd suggest Rush, Dream Theater, The Eagles Avoid modern rock and grunge, that stuff stinks. I don't know what everyone sees in Nirvana, I can't stand them, they don't make music, they make noise and mumble, that's the whole point of Wierd Al's parody, Smells Like Nirvana.
