  1. Your on a blind date and it's going to crap but he/she is sexually turned on to you. What music would you play that would definitely ruin his/her moment?? For me U2 - Bono's voice would make anyone practice abstinence * shudder * Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music." Actually, the sound of a dentist drill is easier on the ears (and mind) than MMM. Wham! ::
  2. :: :: :: And YOU say that my favourite film "The Warriors" is cheesy??? And this is my facial expression while I'm typing this ---->
  3. Well, I happened to find 'Scary Movie 2' hilarious. Of course the first one is best but I certainly wouldn't trash the 2nd. I also happen to like 'The Core'. I guess it makes a difference when you have the right audio/video equipment (especially dts) and so makes the sound effects more appealing. I didn't care much for Russell Crowe's "Master and Commander" until I played it with dts (oppose to just 5.1 surround) and it made a BIG difference. Just in case some might be confused... dts stands for 'Digital Theatre Sound' and your amp and/or player needs that special decoder. The dts is the same as 5.1 stereo surround EXCEPT the sound effects are more prominent, even the subtle effects are brought out. Sometimes it just seems like the dts sounds like 5.1 but with a pre-amp. Confused?? LOL!! Okay, in one of the scenes where the cannonballs rip through a ship - just using 5.1, you still get the separation and hear the (ball) destroying it's passage on whatever side (left or right). Using dts, the sound is much louder and more of a 'shake/vibration' sound and actually hear the cannonball strike through from one end of the room straight down to wherever your rear speakers are. I couldn't believe the difference that sound made for this film. And for that reason alone is worth the price of admission. Okay, I'm waaaaaaaaaay off track here... bad movies. hmmmmmmmmmmm..... St. Elmo's Fire
  4. I'm pretty sure you didn't misunderstand me buuuuuut just in case :: I too am a fan of "Exile on Main St." I also give it a thumbs up (we had the records when I was a kid). I only mentioned '2' songs that were my favs and didn't bother to name others. My main point is (and you also noted) that it draws away the attention of their more thorough (and finer) albums, especially the one you've already mentioned, "Let it Bleed." I would also like to add "Aftermath," "Goats Head Soup," and one you've already mentioned ("Some Girls"). As for 'Sticky Fingers', I would say 'Exile' is better.
  5. Ozzy (and the fans) wanted another 'Randy' and even though Jake did his best (and succeeded in my opinion), you just can't make everyone happy. Jake is a phenomenal player. His work with 'Badlands' is definitely worth more than the price of admission. Jake is among my 'Top 5' favourite guitarists. Ant
  6. It's been mentioned numerous times. George Martin (producer) felt Pete's drumming wasn't up to par and told the other lads to find a replacement. Even for their first tune (Love Me Do), George Martin brought in a session player (Andy White). There were two versions recorded - one with Ringo and the other Andy (with Ringo on tambourine). The former version was released for the first singles and the latter is the version on the album AND later issued singles. Also, Andy played drums on 'P.S. I Love You' (w/Ringo on maracas). I have also read somewhere (could of been at bookstore or possibly here at home - can't recall what and where the source) that Paul was a bit envious over Pete's looks. In summary, Pete was the better looking of the lads and would of got all the girls (and attention) and so, Paul didn't want him in the band.
  7. George Martin was always at the controls (even the original 'Let it Be' tapes) but the lads were quick to learn in the early years, especially the ADT techniques. Paul - he also played the bass, drums and whatever else you can think of (except the brass and strings) 'cause none of the other Beatles appears on this recording. Paul Band on the Run. A great album. Although Paul has released some great tunes/singles here and there, his other albums are at best mediocre. Yes, John was addicted to H. 'Cold Turkey' explains the withdrawals. No - 'Happiness' isn't about H. (John) once described the tune as a sort of history of rock 'n' roll. 'Revolution in the Head' - The Beatles' Records and the Sixties by Ian MacDonald.
  8. U2 Led Zeppelin IV (I, II, & Physical Graffiti are much better) and here's what I've said back in July '03 at another site... Derek & the Dominoes - Layla & other assorted love songs Yep, all 14 tunes are masterpieces, considered worthy enough to be placed among the greatest albums ever. riiiiiiiight Pearl Jam - Ten 2 good tunes, 2 others that got tiring quickly ... Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street Love the Stones, but this album is way hyped. Too much filler, but does have a few great tracks, most notably "All Down the Line" & "Sweet Virginia." Eagles - Hotel California Again, an album considered highly for a great tune or two. HELLO ??
  9. Jake E. Lee Butch Walker Flaming Lips 8-Tracks (I LOVED them although I haven't seen one in ages)

  12. I just want to comment that I LOVE this tune. If I were to make up a list of 100 all-time favourite tunes, it would be on it. Of course, the original version and not the sped up one that's played on the airwaves.
  13. In order!! 1) Killer 2) Welcome to My Nightmare 3) Billion Dollar Babies 4) Muscle of Love 5) School's Out Songs in order! 1) Years Ago 2) Be My Lover 3) You Drive Me Nervous 4) Halo of Flies 5) Generation Landslide
  14. I would say John's opening line for "I Am the Walrus."
  15. Annabelle notes: Maybe so BUT it may be safe to say that Paul and the lads were trying (and did so) to upstage another tune. It's been mentioned, noted, etc., that (Beatles - either Paul or John... maybe both) they purposely ended the tune '1' second longer than the previous longest single which was held by (I believe) 'MacArthur Park' to be the top. IMO, I believe it.
  16. And we have another weiner!! Sorry... WINNER!! All right - I like the quick responses. For # 3 - later on tonight. :guitar:
  17. Nope - nice try. First clue... 3 piece band.
  18. Awwww, thanx TP Actually I was going to post... you watchin' that Pirates of the Caribbean movie again?? On another note - this is weird... I don't have any smileys showing but the heading says, "Instant Graemlins" What the...?
  19. We have a weiner!! # 2 coming up shortly...
  20. I was reading this thread (again) and thought Satie's "Gymnopedie No. 1" then realized I already replied a while back. I have 4 cds with different versions but I'm going with Dominic Miller (former guitarist for Sting). If anyone is not sure about this great composition, just click here BUT you won't hear it until you click 'play'... yes, it's a game but you don't need to play it. NOTE: it's only the first few bars repeated and not the entire tune. Clicky Clicky
  21. For PF, my 'Top 3' are... - DSOTM - Animals - Meddle
  22. I concur. I've never liked it. There's another DS tune that I don't care for either... "Walk of Life."
  23. Sorry - all wrong. I better give a clue...... 1979 release The album contains one of my all-time favourite guitar solos.
