  1. edna, this one is spanking Google. Are you talking about Ron Wood's I've Got My Own Album to Do? I can't find writing credits on the web. Keith Richards (and Jagger) wrote some songs for that, but neither of them would seem to qualify for the "folk" part of "some rock-pop-folk icon". Dylan is a likely candidate for "icon", but I can't make a connection to Otis or Jerry Lee. Because Otis Redding died in 1967, I can't think of many others. (I think I remember some story about Otis doing Neil Young's Mr. Soul.)
  2. (>) The Pilgrim, a new Jerry Lee Lewis CD with an all-star guest lineup is due out in May or June.
  3. This is a real stretch but Otis Redding and Jerry Lee Lewis did cover versions of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction. I suppose you could say that Ron Wood "covered" Satisfaction when he played it with the Stones, since he wasn't part of the original recording. Pretty weak, huh? Am I totally off-track?
  4. in no particular order Daniel and the Sacred Harp The Moon Struck One Chest Fever Jemima Surrender W.S. Walcott Medicine Show King Harvest (Has Surely Come) When I Paint My Masterpiece Across the Great Divide Long Black Veil Shoot Out In Chinatown
  5. That's Annabel Lee by Poe. In his pleasantly morbid style.
  6. UncleJoe has got it right, except I'm not sure where you can find a "Best Of" album. I saw the Stage Fright CD insanely discounted (like a buck apiece) around last Christmas (in a grocery store, of all places. It must have been a dumb mistake. Don't think you'd catch that kind of luck again). Definitely try to find The Last Waltz for rent on DVD or VHS. From an Amazon.com review
  7. They each covered The Bee Gees song To Love Somebody. edna, I think you gave away two thirds of the solution in another thread.
  8. Hey, let's add some fuel to this debate. (<) In the song The Weight by The Band is it Take a load off Annie or Take a load off Fanny ?
  9. Well, I am an experienced fart. Take your turn, edna. Make it rough, like Tina Turner. "Y? know, every now and then I think you might like to hear something from us Nice and easy But there?s just one thing You see we never ever do nothing Nice and easy" - Tina's introduction to Proud Mary
  10. Stevie Winwood. That's too easy for an old fart like me. Or do you have a trick up your sleeve, Laurie?
  11. No, yes, you are right. "lefties" are "left-handed". Who's on first?
  12. edna, do you mean should you trust Google to give you the answer? Or should you trust Google because it knows too much? "Lefties" is the answer I was looking for. Can you come up with a Goog-Stumper?
  13. They are vegetarian/vegan. Google just makes it too easy. Assuming I got that one right, here's a new test. [*] Judy Garland [*] Dennis Quaid [*] Pablo Picasso
  14. How does the karaoke deal with the other lyrics "get back to Miss Annie" and "what about young Anna-Lee"? I reckoned that was one & the same person. I guess I hear the f as the end of 'off ', not as the beginning of 'fannie'. Anyway, we agree The Band has turned out some great music. Try to dig up their version of Dylan's When I Paint My Masterpiece. Bet you'll like it.
  15. That's Annie. At least, according to me and Songfacts.(<)
  16. Google knows all, tells all. [*] "This really blew my mind, the fact that me, an overfed, long-haired leaping gnome should be the star of a Hollywood movie" - Burdon?s self-assessment from Spill The Wine with WAR. [*] Eric Burdon stated in his biography that he is the Egg Man. It seems he told John Lennon of a sexual experience he was involved in where an egg played a major part. After that, John called him Egg Man. The 'eggman' was supposedly a reference to the Animals' vocalist Eric Burdon who had an unusual practice of breaking eggs over his female conquests while making love and became known amongst his musical colleagues as the 'egg man'. - from Songfacts and other sources [*] "When the Animals first arrived in the U.S. back in 1964, they discovered graffiti on their hotel wall: ERIC BURDON IS A ******* LOVER. ?Well, yeah,? Burdon thought. ?He is. And f-ck you for not understanding that you should be, too.? Indeed, the man who made his name with The House of the Rising Sun didn?t merely rip off black music, as some of his compatriots did — he sought to explore the music instead." - from the Clark Collis Blender review of Burdon's autobiography Don?t Let Me Be Misunderstood. You go, earth-angel !
  17. Right idea, Kevin. Wrong bloke.
  18. I'm too familiar with that condition. My win still feels slightly shady, but this challenge may require a Grand Master. [*] "an overfed, long-haired leaping gnome" [*] "the Egg Man" [*] "A N-GGER LOVER"
  19. You're at least as old as bazooka if you remember this. from tvacres.com
  20. No it wasn't. And I goofed up my answer. A tip of the hat to the all-seeing earth-angel. levis517, have you reached a verdict?
  21. Karhul, did you know that Clapton played the lead guitar solo on George Harrison 's While My Guitar Gently Weeps (<) for The Beatles White Album? It is credited to "L'Angelo Mysterioso".
  22. Oops! I'm a geezer who garbled my Googling. (I got them confused with National Velvet and Slaves Against Guns)
  23. They all feature members from previous well-known bands Audioslave (Guns N' Roses, STP) Velvet Revolver (Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine) Zwan (The Smashing Pumpkins)
