  1. NEWS (to me at least): 0n June 29, 2004, Rush released an EP titled > " Feedback ".

This album 'covers' and pays tribute to songs made popular by The Who, The Yardbirds, Buffalo Springfield, Cream -- and includes Seven And Seven Is by Love.

Alice Cooper covered Seven And Seven Is on the 1981 "Special Forces" album. There are a few differences in the Cooper lyrics < [it's neither "Father" nor "Bible", but "My Clock ... in the fireplace". And "Oom! Biff biff!" ("Oom pah pah" according to another website) replaces the "Oop-ip-ip" which - parenthetically - brings Shemp Howard to my mind]

  2. And that Mama's and Papa's song they sing about themselves, though I can't remember the title.

Creeque Alley is the Mamas and Papas song about how the group got started.

creequealley.com is an entire website devoted to study, analysis and discussion of the song, and Mamas and Papas fandom.

(Roger) McGuinn, (Barry) McGuire, Zal (Yanovsky), (John) Sebastian, (Lovin') Spoonful, Mugwumps and, of course, John, Michelle, Denny and Mama Cass all turn up in the lyrics.

    HARD R&B

    Buddy Miles

Bands and collaborations: The Electric Flag, Band of Gypsies (with Jimi Hendrix), Buddy Miles Express, Carlos Santana ... The California Raisins (?? -!#%&!).

In October 2003 Miles sued the estate of Jimi Hendrix and several record labels for unpaid royalties (Los Angeles Superior Court -- George Allen Miles, aka Buddy Miles v. Experience Hendrix LLC, et al. )

my favorite: Them Changes - Buddy Miles Express

    HAPPY R&B

    Billy Preston

Played with the Beatles (especially Abbey Road, Let It Be). Toured and recorded with the Rolling Stones, Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison, etc. etc. His own memorable 70s hits were Will It Go 'Round In Circles and Nothin' From Nothin'. Miles Davis titled a song Billy Preston in his honor.

Preston was jailed in 1997 for bail violation.

my favorite: That's the Way God Planned It

  4. The late Ernest Kador, Jr. , "Emperor of the World", was a performer and club owner in New Orleans. His biggest record was Mother-In-Law (1961). See k-doe.com, the official website.

I'm finding a lot of connections between artists (especially around the New Orleans music scene). Benny Spellman , indeed the originator of Fortune Teller (covered by the Rolling Stones), was a background vocalist on K-Doe's Mother-In-Law. Before that, he was with Huey "Piano" Smith and His Clowns [Don't You Just Know It, (Well I'll Be) John Brown, etc.]

  5. Johnny Otis (< click) used to live in my local area, and performed on a regular basis. Seven or eight years ago, I was privileged to see the Johnny Otis Show, a fantastic Rhythm & Blues Review with numerous performers, as the finale to one of the annual outdoor Red Beans & Rice Music Festivals that Otis organized.

  6. Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon must have been trying to corner the market. His three Top Ten hits were Tallahassee Lassie, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans and Palisades Park (this was covered by the Ramones and tricked out with lyrics revision).

Glenn Campbell did both Witchita Lineman and Galveston.

Surfin' USA is based on Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen (" Boston, Pittsburg [and/or Philadelphia] PA ..'round the Frisco Bay, all over St. Louie, way down in New Orleans ")

    Kansas City - Wilbert Harrison

    Abilene - ? / Waylon Jennings

Sweet Home Chicago - Robert Johnson / Muddy Waters

Kokomo Blues - Mississippi Fred McDowell (covered by Bonnie Raitt)

Goin' to Jackson - Lee Greenwood & Nancy Sinatra / Johnny Cash & June Carter

    Nashville Cats - Lovin' Spoonful

Memphis Blues Again - Bob Dylan "stuck inside of Mobile with the..")

    Hollywood Nights - Bob Seger

    L.A. Woman - the Doors

(Stuck in) Lodi - Creedence Clearwater Revival

San Francisco (Franciscan?) Night - Eric Burdon & the Animals

  7. OK larla3298

    It's ' Fogged-Up Beyond All Recall'.

Now please explain what's with your using 'a/b' in place of 'about'? That's pretty darn strange, even if it is two less keystrokes.

Anyway, thanks for keeping me hip. Now we can get back to the serious work of proving absolutely that this song is a/b drunken masturbation.

  8. ... Neil Young/Lynyrd Skynyrd feud

    Sweet Home Alabama

    Good one, MuzikTyme.

Mentioning Neil Young made me think about his My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) or is it Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) which "is the story of Johnny Rotten".

Then, that made me think about Paul Simon's The Late Great Johnny Ace (with the real? Johnny Ace, John Lennon, "It was the year of the Beatles. It was the year of the Stones").

  9. Hearing Van Morrison's Jackie Wilson Said brought this to mind:

Songs lyrics that mention other artists and/or other songs.

    Some examples are:

Sweet Soul Music by Arthur Conley. He lists Lou Rawls, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, James Brown)

In A Simple Desultory Philippic (or Etc.) Simon and Garfunkel are Barry Sadlered, Rolling Stoned & Beatled ('til I'm blind), Mick Jaggered. [The song also mentions Dylan, Phil Spector and other producers, various political figures, and Lenny Bruce]

I'm Gonna Fight for You J.B. by John Mayall is a eulogy of J.B. Lenoir. In The Laws Must Change from the same album (Turning Point) Mayall also mentions Lenny Bruce.

    Anybody got more?

[Didn't David Bowie refer to T.Rex in a song? I thought it was Changes but couldn't find it in the lyrics.]

  10. Excuse this dense old man, but you young folks are driving me to Seven & Seven with your shortcut initial-letter phrases.

    Like what does ROTF-LMOA mean?

I see LOL on these boards a lot. I thought that meant Lots of Luck, but it doesn't seem to be used that way (Little Old Lady?).

Y'all can cut the IMO and IMHO any time. I know an opinion or a humble opinion when I read one.

Having to decipher this stuff is FUBAR.

  11. These films all threw me for a loop.

The Last Seduction (1994) Directed by John Dahl. Written by Steve Barancik. Starring Linda Fiorentino, Bill Pullman. My highest recommendation.

House of Games (1987) Directed by David Mamet. Story by David Mamet & Jonathan Katz. Starring Lindsay Crouse, Joe Mantegna, with William H. Macy. Who's fooling who?

Wild Things (1998) Directed by John McNaughton. Written by Stephen Peters. Starring Matt Dillon, Kevin Bacon, Neve Campbell. Definitely twisted, and don't walk out before the closing credits.

and if you're OK with subtitles, a French film

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not ( A la folie ... pas du tout 2002) Directed by Laetitia Columbani. Written by Laetitia Columbani & Caroline Thivel. Starring Audrey Tautou, Samuel Le Bihan. Don't read the package when you rent it.

It can be a drag to be forewarned that a movie has surprises. When friends ask about a movie that has blown my mind, I try to be subtle in my comments so that they will get a "fresh" jolt.

  12. Yes scott,

Tybalt is Juliet's cousin, the spoiler in the play. He kills Romeo's friend Mercutio, and then Romeo kills him in revenge. I chose the screen name while listening to music from the R&J ballet by Prokofiev (Op.64). It's some of my favorite classic music, especially the Dance of the Knights.

I have no affiliation with click:the enterprenurial alt band out of Birmingham, England and won't make judgments pro or con about their music. I only wish they hadn't beaten me to the punch with the name.

Back on subject:The artists would be the Byrds.

During his time as Governor of California, political opponents sometimes attempted to associate Ronald Reagan with the KKK. These accusations were bogus.
