  1. HD...what the heck! Do me a favor, cast a spell for my team to hit at least five homers every full moon night during the season! BTW....I am far from being a ringer like some may think here because of my 20 years doing this. I have been on the wrong side of the fence more times than not and I can always use all the help I can get. Hint.....I think Barry Bonds will be a bust this year. He is just going to play out his contract. He has mentioned in the past that he respects Hank Aaron's record and it would not bother him if he didn't get the record. Anyone have any thoughts on other players this year?
  2. Peaches......I didn't listen to George Michael until I first heard One More Try. I really liked that song. I listened to a few more songs and I thought hey, not too bad. I have always thought he put that extra umph into his songs, somewhat like he had a passion to sing. One More Try is definitely one of those songs. I think I will pull out his Greatest Hits CD since I haven't listened to him in a long while.
  3. While we are on the topic of Spanish music, may I mention that Ray Barretto passed away this weekend, I believe on February 18. He was 76 years old. For those of you who may not have heard of him, he was one of the innovators of modern Salsa music. When I was a kid I was fortunate to hear him play with the likes of Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. I lived on a play street in the Bronx where they did a show one night during a warm summer. I don't recall all who performed but it was basically the beginnings of the Fania All Stars. Besides the three mentioned above I am sure there was also Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe and Johnny Pacheco. I can not recall any of the others. For those of you that like Salsa music and wants to go back to the beginnings I truly urge you to get your hands on any of the music that came out of the Fania group.
  4. A pop hit from the early 70's was Eres Tu by a group called Morcedades. It actually charted here in America and is a very pretty song.
  5. Batman...that is a classic. I will never forget that scene. If you recall, prior to the dog snipping at him he asks the old man if he has a rrrroom (rolling r's). The old man does not understand what he means and he repeats it. Finally Clouseau looks in his translation dictionary and says " a zimmer" where the old man replies "oh, you mean a rrrroom!" That whole diatribe between the two of them were classic. On another thread here I mentioned that I think that though Steve Martin is at times funny, there are some things that are better left alone. Peter Sellers playing Clouseau was a match made in heaven. Anyone, including Steve Martin who plays Clouseau I consider an insult to the comic genius of Peter Sellers. Just one man's opinion!
  6. Kevin, I agree. There are two styles of Fantasy baseball, one being head-to-head and the other being rotiserrie. The one you are referring to is rotisserie and considering there are some who this may be new to, the rotisserie style is the way to go.
  7. Hey Uncle Joe.....Chico says Fantasy Baseball can be berry berry gooood to you, but only if you choose him.
  8. Hey invisible...how do you not agree? Do you not think Hollywood has hit us with remake after remake over the last few years. I certainly do. Most times the remakes are worse than the originals and indeed at times insults the original movies. I am sorry we disagree. In my perspective, making Pink Panther my example here, Steve Martin can be and is a very funny guy. I have enjoyed some of his movies while the others I felt were a waste of two hours of my life. With that said, the Pink Panther will have Martin playing Inspector Clouseau. In my opinion there is only one person that role is suited for and that would be the great English actor Peter Sellers. Anyone else playing that role I regard insults the role. There have been other times when the remake may not have been possible so they went on to the next generation. An example would be The Mask. I was not a fan of that movie but did Hollywood really have to do "Son of Mask"? That movie was so bad it made Mariah Carey's flop Glitter look half decent. Lastly, there are the movie sequels. The Planet Of The Apes was the first movie which produced multiple Ape movies following it as well as a remake. Rocky has 5 sequels and a 6th on the way. Alien has 3, Star Wars albeit was in chapters has 6 (but well worth the money), and so on. These sequels become stale after a while and people lose interest. Hollywood can only recover with fresh ideas. Seeing the same old movies and sequels every few years can and will continue to hurt box office numbers. One man's opinion!
  9. Thanks Edna.....I knew you would have the answers. I was sure there were pop artists out there who sang duets with opera stars, just could not think of any. Opera and myself do not mix. It is up there with rap music as music I just do not care to listen to.
  10. Invisible, I mentioned my point in my post. Basically, Hollywood is running out of ideas. Over the last few years it seems that remakes have become prevalent. That was the point. Also, I did understand it was just a copy and paste job. I knew it wasn't your opinion.
  11. Peaches....turned me over and over till I was well done!! Now I am better than ever! Anyway, sorry for calling it Rotisserie Baseball. Before it was called Fantasy Baseball, it was called Rotisserie Baseball. I am not sure if anyone cares, but the reason it was called such is because the first noted sports fantasy league was started by a group of guys who got together with an idea to create a fantasy league back in the very early 80's. That very first league was begun in a restaurant in NYC, the name of the restaurant being called "Le Rotisserie". That boys and girls is today's history lesson. I would like to believe the league I am in is one of the oldest around since it has been running since 1987 and this would be our 20th season. We run an American League only league. This year we will also create a second league for National Leaguers only. We do need another team or two. If you are interested and live in the Westchester, NY area email me here. The draft will be a live draft (bring your own sandwich) on Sunday, April 2. The time is yet to be determined. Keep in mind this is a cash league with first prize probably running about 1500 to 2000 dollars. Entry is a couple of hundred and moves cost money, usually 5 or 10 a move depending on the type of move. That is how our prize fund is built. Now, how will we be contacted to join this league? Are we still looking for a commissioner since JR is not around. I have been a commissioner on Yahoo many times in the past and would be willing to start up a league if all of you give me the OK. I will need to know how many teams you want. I would suggest at least 14 if using both leagues. I will await replies.
  12. While I can't see Zappa playing with any Philharmonic or Symphony orchestra, there are plenty who have and have included them in albums. Elton John I believe has two albums where the orchestras are part of the live album. "Here and There" is one of the albums. Others who have performed with symphonies off the top of my head are Rick Wakeman and Queen. On the other hand, I am right now scratching my head trying to remember who may have dueted with an opera star. I actually thought Elton did but am having trouble thinking of any by him.
  13. Outside of Reese Witherspoon winning best lead actress, I do not agree with any of the other major categories mentioned in your post. Hollywood is in the decline and it is obvious. Over the last couple of years how many remakes of movies have opened? Currently we have "When A Stranger Calls" previously from the late seventies and "Pink Panther" from the late sixties in the theatres. Has Hollywood run out of ideas?
  14. My favorite quote is in Star Wars, 1977. In it Obi Wan Kenobi asks the question, "Who's the more foolish: The fool, or the fool who follows him?". There are also a slew of great lines in one of my favorite movies, My Cousin Vinny. The only movie that had me laughing from start to finish. Marisa Tomei goes on her tirade when telling Vinny why should he care what kind of clothes he is wearing when deer hunting. (Please excuse any profanity as it is only quoting the movie): "Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing around. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put your little deer lips down to the cool, clear water - BAM. A f*ckin' bullet rips off part of your head. Your brains are lying on the ground in little bloody pieces. Now I ask you, do you give a f*ck what kind of pants the son-of-a-bitch who shot you was wearing?"
  15. Phil....I have to agree....Taxicab Confessions is a cheesy and sleazy show. The Vegas show highlights an old friend of mine from back in my days in the Bronx. The female cabbie Rita is originally from the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. I have spoken to her since the show. She almost got a spinoff show, a talk show somewhat like Jenny Jones or Montel Williams. She is currently with the William Morris agency while still driving a cab in Vegas. I believe one of the top shows on TV, definitely the top reality show in my book is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. This is a feel good show that leaves us viewers practically in happy tears after staying choked up during the show. There is nothing these folks will not do to make a home right for the recipients. If everyone drew examples of helping others from this show, it would surely be a wonderful world we live in.
  16. Jane....being an Elton John fan (bigtime) the first song I thought of off of the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album was Sweet Painted Lady as well. Another EJ song that would fit the category comes off of the Rock Of The Westies album and the song is Island Girl.
  17. I wanted to get in last year. Been playing Rotisserie Baseball since the mid 80's. I am currently in a league that started in 1987 and this is our 20th season. I have time for one on here with you guys so let me know the league number and I am there. My Yahoo account is r_a_i_n_m_a_n_5_9.
  18. RT....I am not sure if I would say the two Beatle songs you mentioned define the British Invasion. When the British Invasion first arrived to the shores of these states the songs were more like bubblegum music. Besides the Beatles there was Herman's Hermits, Dave Clark Five, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Peter and Gordon, etc. The second wave was more rock than bubblegum and I would include the Rolling Stones, Animals and Yardbirds.
  19. Hey PC (Always called you PC cause that name is too long to type!!)..... I didn't see this post last week so I don't know when you will see this. All I want to say is that I believe what you are doing at this time in your life should make all of us here proud of you. I wish you the best of luck.
  20. Made In Japan - Deep Purple Caught In The Act - Grand Funk Chicago At Carnegie Hall - Chicago
  21. Hey Joe....get in line. Heather is one of the girls I have been salivating over the last 20 some odd years. Now, in a sense she has been involved with my family. You ask how? Well let me tell you. My mom has a cousin whose son-in-law is the actor Alex Henteloff. You all are saying Alex who? He has had tough luck in Hollywood. He had a few TV series, all which bombed and never saw a second season. The first show in the mid 70's was The Young Rebels (I think that was the name), a U.S. Revolution theme to it. Another show was called Pins and Needles about the clothing industry on Broadway in NYC. When Heather was in Dynasty as Sammi Jo she was a mistress to a guy in NY. Does anyone recall that? That guy was Alex Henteloff. I think his character was Ed Lindsay or something like that. Anyway, she finally breaks it off with him after he beat the crap out of her one evening. I have always envied my 2nd cousin by marriage! Not for the beating of course, but just for having the chance to act with her.
  22. Does it make anyone wonder why Britney would do something so incredibly stupid? It doesn't suprise me.
  23. Edna....that would make more sense, wouldn't it. I will not try to list my top ten Beatle songs because it is impossible. I will not choose over others which would deserve a top ten spot. Call me a rebel!
  24. Breathe deep the gathering gloom, watch lights fade from every room........ So Laurie, what do you think they were talking of at the end of the song? I always thought it was about death.
  25. Blind fitter.....I can't believe I had to read through all the posts prior to yours before I saw William Shatner mentioned. You are correct, Shatner is the worst. If we are going to mention Shatner we might as well mention Leonard Nimoy also. He tried his voice at singing and in my opinion failed horribly as well!
