  1. Joe, I have noticed the writers on the show are liberal and do take shots at the current administration. They have taken on causes that seem to be of popular opinion these days. The character of Alan Shore is very complex yet very understandable. He is compassionate and fully concerned about the rights of others as if the causes were his own. His arguments are always brilliant and timely when in the courtroom. Shatner is brilliant, simply brilliant. This morning while watching the taped episode from last evening, I was thinking how we have watched him age gracefully on TV over the last 40 years. I find his previous roles campy compared to his performance on Boston Legal. Whether it is his single word diatribes with others, his excuse for eccentricity being mad cow desease, or his amusing moments in the courtroom you see his real being when closing the show with Spader every week. It is no wonder they both won Emmys their first season for their respective roles. Candice Bergen is another who you can say has aged gracefully in her years on TV. While I will say Murphy Brown is her landmark role on TV, she does a wonderful job on the show. Rene Auberjois's character is a strong figure on the show as well. The supporting cast rounds out the show very well. The levity and continuing story lines keep me hooked. I don't think the time spot the show is in helps it perhaps making it a very underrated show. Best line on last night's show (2/28) - At Denny's wedding reception he is caught frolicking under coats in the coat room with a waitress, the cast including his new wife are watching when he peeks from under the coats and looking right at them asks, "Is it time to cut the cake?".
  2. Is anyone else hooked on this show? I remember telling my girlfriend after the second show of the first season if James Spader did not get a Best Actor Emmy for his role as Alan Shore it would be an injustice. Sure enough, he got the Emmy! I really believe he is currently the best actor on TV.
  3. Soulgirl....I work with two guys who are a season behind because they had to wait for the first season to reach DVD. I really believe the best way to view this series is to watch it from the beginning. If possible you should try to get your hands on the first season. It will help explain later episodes. Good luck.
  4. I might be the only person in America who never saw a Sopranos episode until the beginning of this year. Thank God for HBO on Demand. Since the beginning of the year they have offered the first five seasons. Currently the 4th and 5th seasons are available. I just finished the 4th and have two weeks to get through the 5th season. I think I should make it.
  5. Kevin, I guess 1 DL spot is OK. I was thinking 2 because I have seen teams get 4 and 5 injured players at a time. I guess the extra categories will cover the difference.
  6. Shawna and Jane....I too was sitting in front of the TV set on Friday evenings as a kid watching the Bradys and the Partridges. If I am not mistaken wasn't there also some Disney show in that mix? I do not recall the Monkees on Fridays though. Just aa couple of months ago I purchased the first season of the Partridge Family. It is still in it's shrink wrap but I do plan to watch them soon.
  7. OOPs.....Farinu, you are right. My apologies to Shawna!
  8. I will probably be attacked for this so before saying so I would first like to say you all came up with some good groups. In my opinion harmonizing is not any more perfect then when done to DooWop. Some of the great harmonizing groups of all time were DooWop groups. The Platters with Tony Williams is definitely one of my favorites. Eugene Pitt and the Jive Five, The Penguins, Five Satins, The Duprees and Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners are also among my favorites. Another genre that I believe did real well harmonizing were the soul groups of the seventies. In that bunch I would put The Stylistics, The Chi-lites, The Whispers and The Temptations.
  9. I have one......They're Coming To Take Me Away by Napoleon Bonaparte XIV if I am not mistaken. As a kid I had this 45. On the B side of the 45 was the same song with one difference, it was recorded backwards.

  11. Since I was born in in Manhattan and moved on up the the Bronx 3 days later for the next 35 years of my life before leaving, I guess I should add to this post. The songs I list mention different places in NYC in it's title. East Side, West Side - Old Standard On Broadway - George Benson, other various artists Spanish Harlem - Ben E. King Take The A Train - Duke Ellington Chelsea Morning - Judy Collins 42nd Street - From the Broadway play of the same name The 59th Street Bridge Song - Simon and Garfunkel
  12. Ok Invisible...you got me hooked. First would you agree that every word has an antonym or at least should have an antonym? Now I will throw another word out and this may be stretching it a bit but what about "synchronous"?
  13. Kevin...I must admit there are a few extra categories that I did not expect. I usually play the standard ten but adding a few more categories doesn't hurt. What it will do is make it a little tougher to get to the top as you work through the different categories to get the right mix. With the limited number of players for each team it will be tough for anyone to max out on most if not all categories. One question I did want to ask Kevin is how many benches have you made available for injured players? I would suggest all 5 available if possible.
  14. Ok Invisible.....if timely is an adjective in the sense I mentioned, then it's antonym would be anachronistic. Anachronistic would be an adjective, again if there is such a word. Another word that I have thought of is apropos. Again I think that is an adjective also.
  15. Off the top of my head..... Jim Croce did a version of Gunga Din by setting it to music. Rick Wakeman did a few albums based on stories. Of them Journey To The Center Of The Earth, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, etc.
  16. There has to be an antonym for anachronism and the one I provided I believe would be accepted. Again the word is "timely".
  17. He was one of the funniest and most enduring actors on TV when I was growing up. Whether he was Barney Fife or Mr. Furley, he always delivered a good laugh. He also played in some movies which were funny as well including The Incredible Mr. Limpet and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Thanks for the laughs Mr. Knotts!
  18. Kevin....I signed up. I am the Bronx Bombers. Original, isn't it?
  19. Kevin, I never had hair on my back so that is kind of scary. As far as the HR's are concerned, that is one stat. Guess I will just have to carry the other stats.
  20. I don't know Kevin but I was trying to be honest in my opinion. I wouldn't trade him for a number 3 pitcher, but a player of any kind of substance I would take. If this is an auto draft I will not rank him in my top 20. (Something tells me if he does well this will come back to haunt me!)
  21. If an anachronism is something which is out of place in time wouldn't the opposite be timely?
  22. Hey guys....I am serious. I will promise you this, if I get Bonds in the draft I will trade him for the best offer. I truly meant what I said. I think he will be a bust.
  23. Jane...I was wondering when we would start seeing the news about Hurley come to fruition!
  24. Shaking....shaking....shaking.....OUCH!!! I think I pulled something. You see Peaches, I graduated in 1976 and we were shaking alot back then but now I have hints of gray hair. I think my shaking days are over.
  25. On this date, February 21, 1985 I experienced up until then the greatest moment of my life. I watched my first born come into the world. Today he turns 21. I am reminded of the song "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler On The Roof. One season has truly followed another but it took no time to watch him grow into a man. Where does the time go? My other son is now 17 years old and soon he too will be a man. God truly blessed me with my sons. Any and every memory I have of them growing up are my wonderful memories.
