  1. I've made almost 80 posts and I still feel like I don't know anyone here... Are there any country music fans here, because it seems like the main discussions center around rock and roll only?
  2. Hard to say, blues based hard rock was around before the bands mentioned (Cream, Hendrix, etc) and while they might not be metal, they certainly laid the foundation. Led Zeppelin hates the term "heavy metal" and refuses to be put into that category. Steppenwolf invented the term, but I've never considered them metal. Black Sabbath was definitely a true metal band, but were they the first? If I had to choose I'd go with Sabbath.
  3. Nice picture! "Hey Lois, I'm a booger!"
  4. How can anyone pick one year for music? A decade maybe, but not a year.
  5. Axl Rose looks like a jerk. Axl Rose quacks like a jerk. Axl Rose is a jerk. (I love GNR though)
  6. 1. Good Charlotte isn't overrated, they just suck. Actually all those pop-punk guys really suck. 2. I don't know much about Frank Zappa, but you can't use "he can't sing" as a reason for him being not good because Bob Dylan couldn't carry a tune either.
  7. Well I was recently playing a game of Trivial Pursuit and the question was "Which Beatles song was inspired by the Cummunist regime of China?" Answer: Revolution How dare you challenge they almighty Trivial Pursuit?!?
  8. As to number 6 I have played a tradtional Irish reel known as "Sitting on the Fence", but there's no "I'm". Quite an interesting post.
  9. He understands that their all on the island for a REASON. Without him they're doomed!
  10. Loc is the only one who gets it though!
  11. Yesterday's show was just revisting the main events up until now. Next week is a new show, and the previews make it look like Sayid will kill John Loc, but if that is what will happen they wouldn't have put it on the previews. If it actually IS what happens I will be as angry as a Michigan grad who just watched the Wolverines lose 47-0 to Ohio State. I use dumb analogys.
  12. I've been playing for about 5-6 years. I've been into Irish music all my life because my parents went to an Altan concert not long after I was born and got hooked. In fourth grade a group of people came to my school offering to teach instruments, and since I was in a classical music phase, I choose the violin. I loved the instrument, but got bored with the music, so I went back to my Irish roots. Now it has become a huge part of my life. It's incredibly fun, and it always gives me the feeling that I'm going back into ancient history, or I'm on the boat however many generations back my family immigrated to America.
  13. Does anyone else here like Celtic music? I'm an Irish fiddler so I was just curious.
  14. You're right SoulGirl, they're not "talentless". In fact when people ask me what made me decide to play the fiddle I respond "Because I can't sing". I still think the show is adding to the bad music of this unfortunate era, but some of them can belt out a tune.
  15. Yes GNR did do SFTD but it was originally the Stones, and personally I like the original much better. Anyway, "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield is about the riots on Sunset Strip in the 60's and "Revolution" by The Beatles is about Chinese Communism.
  16. Whatever you do DO NOT play Graduation by Vitamin C. DON'T SUBMIT POOR INNOCENT 5TH GRADERS TO THAT PAIN!!!
  17. Since when does singing kareoke make you talented? I've been playing fiddle for 6 years (which, not to sound cocky or anything, takes skill) and have never been on national TV. What a crazy, mixed-up world we live in.
  18. The only bands I know of that come from The Land Down Under are AC/DC and Jet.
  19. Being just a lowly fiddle player, I can't say I understand the technical details of playing guitar. But I think if I could move my fingers as fast as I've seen Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen,(in film) maybe I could make some money. Maybe.
  20. I AM an angst-ridden teenager and I think Linkin Park sucks. In response to The Doors being overrated: perhaps they weren't the best musicians ever, but the poetry of Jim Morrison's lyrics (especially their lesser known songs) is what does it for me.
  21. Wow. Just wow. Oh well that's your views, I'll respect them. I'm just an opinionated teenager after all, no reason you should like what I like. ANYWAY I've always thought synth rock bands like Styx and Kansas were overrated. I also think Greenday is EXTREMELY overrated.
  22. To #4: "Holy Water" by Big and Rich
  23. What's funny is that you say I've been mishearing the lyric for 30 years when 30 is twice my age.
  24. Actually both "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" and "Run Like Hell" both have disco beats mixed into them.
