  1. with a bar band you want to get everybody up dancing. you'll never fail with classic rock like anything from the stones( the ultimate bar band), lynard skynard, bob seger(not old time rocknroll!), aerosmith and any others that will get people up and moving. Course depending on the age group you'll be playing to, you'll have to adjust the bands and songs to their taste. The main thing is don't put them to sleep! :sleepy: The bar owner wants to sell drinks and they do that by getting everyone hot and sweaty dancing. The more money he makes the more likely he'll book you again. Good luck! :guitar:

    Clapton

Clapton's talent is really showcased best with the Cream stuff. While I like Slowhand and the more bluesy stuff, when you stack him up against other great blues guitarists I think he falls down the list a little.
  3. Ant- I do remember. It's a beautiful song, that I'll remember "long after Saturdays gone".
  4. wow!! I just happened to look back at this thread and boy, it got a little nasty. I didn't diss the Beatles at all, they were abslutely genius. Like it was put before it's just a matter of taste. Who cares if either used sex, drugs, love or pain as inspiration or lyrics? IMO the Beatles music was "intelligent" and thought provoking at times. They were fantastic, no ones disputing that. The Stones are just a good ol' rock n roll bar band. the rock n roll band. That happens to be my taste. It's funny though, the Beatle fans here seemed to get just a leeetle defensive! Lighten up guys. And I liked the Monkees too! So there.
  5. Thanks guys! I could've kicked myself for not knowing Brownsville Station. And ant, you've given me more ideas. I'm gonna come up with about 4 hours of good music. And speaking about sing-a-long type stuff, you reminded me of our group of friends favorite -- Chicken Train by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils Great song to sing and Bawk Bawk to!
  6. I'm putting together a couple cds for my husbands 50th birthday party. I want it to have the songs that he really loved and want it to be a mix of party songs, serious songs, novelty songs, and there has to be a couple dope songs songs cause this was the 70's after all. I've got Don't bogart that joint my friend. Looking for a couple others. One is called Martian Boogie- don't know the artist. The other is something by Blackoak Arkansas. It's not a novelty song or anything, it was just a song he really liked- I think the word Nasty is in the title. Any help or suggestions for other songs would be appreciated! thanks!!
  7. I really don't know, but thelyrics sound more like a Loretta Lynn or Tammy Wynette song. Try that.
  8. does anyone remember cheryl dilcher? She had an album out in the early 70's I think. It had a big butterfly on it. I'm trying to remember the major song on it. I think it was called High or Would Make Me High (to have you). Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Heart

Has anyone heard Heart in concert on this tour? I really love them, and they are going to be in my hometown this month. Am I going to be disappointed? I hope not. Thanks for any opinions.
  10. Jimi Hendrix began solo. The guys in the band, while you are right, they deserve more of credit than they get. They were found and auditioned as the backup band. Not a real good example but you almost never hear George Thorogood and the Delta Destroyers either. Also you never hear Jimi Hendrix and the band of gypsys. I dunno? Probably marketing or something. No matter.Hendrix with anyone is fantastic. When he played guitar for Little Richard(yes that's true!)he didn't get any credit either!
  11. Unfortunatley, I think they are more the ectasy type. Or at least that's what my daughter has told me. ::
  12. Gillian - My daughters boyfriend is from Liverpool, so I think you should be able to find it. We live in Missouri in the US. She had never heard of techno till he introduced her to it. The thing is she used to have good taste in music. It's very different to say the least. What's really bad is these "groups" like to cover really good classic rock songs and totally decimate them. Oh well, each to his own! Check it out for yourself. ::
  13. Ya'll are right about apples and oranges and good boys and bad. Funny how things have turned out though. The Bad Boys are still making music, Mick is now Sir Mick, and Jade, his daughter is the Royal Jeweler( in charge of all the royal jewels!) Just another case of local bad boy makes good. Stones Forever! (literally!)
  14. Debate is great.I thought the whole point was to hear other opinions and ideas. That's how you learn. It's nice when someone's opinion concurrs with my own, but if it's a different one, well that just gives me something else to consider. I may still believe my opinion is right, but it's nice to treat other's at least with respect. And that's just MHO!
  15. Most people are either Beatles people or Stones people. I don't think their music can be compared, they are really different styles. The Beatles were great no doubt about it. For my vote though, it's definatly the Rolling Stones. They are true rock n' roll start to finish. And they're still going!! :guitar:
  16. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your brother. I have been in a similar situation. It may not seem so, but it's wonderful and important that your brother can participate in these desicions. It's a comfort to him, and will be to you in the future. Hang in there-- you'll be together again someday and you'll hear "happy hippie music" again!
  17. I want this picture! I'd love to study it in greater detail.Who is the artist? Does anyone know a website that shows a larger version or where I can order it? I tried a couple but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance!
  18. I think the key word here is "impact". Clapton is undeniably one of the best guitarists to ever pick up the instrument.I don't think however that he made many innovations in playing style - he just plays better than almost anyone. Hendrix though, completely changed the way the guitar was used and played. Rock music changed forever after Jimi. He had a style that can be imitated, but never duplicated, cause it changed every time he played a song. For that reason I think Hendrix has had the greater impact on rock music.
  19. Listen to Bono speak about Elvis, and Chuck Berry. Keith Richards happily gives the credit due Berry. The Beatles and Stones both give credit to Buddy Holly, Elvis, Berry and Little Richard. These were the innovators that allowed all the genius to follow.
  20. Not my favorites, but objectivly, just for the voice-- Annie Lennox, best female voice, and What's His Name - the original lead singer for Journey. Was it Steve Perry? See not my favorite voice , I can't remember his name, but IMHO definatley the best male voice.
  21. I also liked Amy. She wasn't "cookie cutter" like so many of them. She was different and had a great voice. With the talent that's left I really think Fantasia has got it sewed up. She has got a great smoky bluesy kind of voice. And I'm really sorry Opiate, I wish I would have seen that show just so I could agree with you!!!
  22. My hometown! Where do y'all play? We're always looking for something to do. What type music? If i'm not into it my kids probably are!
