  3. You go Ken-- can I be your long lost sister?
  4. I agree, the music picks me. My tastes are all over the place. It's just a matter of whether it is played well and enjoyed by the ones playing it. I can't stand "music snobs", people who generalize and say "I hate country, or rap, or metal, or classical" You need to take the time to listen and see where the music and the mood take you. I have been pleasantly surprised many times. Like the time my son made me listen to an Insane Clown Posse song.Do they even call those songs? Nasty as it was, I was in the mood to find it comical and I actually liked the beat. I was too scared to listen to anymore though!
  5. HaHa cos- cute! Alice, You're back!! Good Holiday? ::
  6. On cleaning cd's, this may sound stupid but use hair conditioner. Not only does it clean but it creates a filler for slight scratches. The lint free cloths made for this purpose are best, but just as for dusting furniture, cloth baby diapers work well too. They are also lint free. As far as skips where there were none before, and nothing visible, check out your carousel. Minute dust particles in the tray can cause this. Seriously though, the hair conditioner thing really works well unless you've got really deep scratches. Honestly I think nothing will ever beat vinyl for durability. Even tapes, unless you break the tape or melt them hold up better than CD's. The thing about CD's is the digital music quality, not durability.
  7. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, but when I happen to catch one on I'll watch the whole thing. It's cool to hear clips from songs I've temoparily forgotten. ::
  8. Considering my age, my parents music and my own are very different. Mom was into Engelbert Humperdink :sleepy:, but also into Tony Bennett, . When I was very young I remember singing "Blue Velvet" and The One-Eyed One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater together. My Dad however, being a farmer, was responsible for my love of early country,ie Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Buck Owens :guitar: The last three were mainly because we lived in Bakersfield CA as did they. Also a lot of the old bluegrass and Grand Ole Opry Stuff. What is special to me, is the music that I have passed to my kids. They went through Guns n Roses, Nirvana, Insane Clown Posse, Pantera, rap, all stuff that is ok but not necessarily enduring, and have settled back into the classic rock and classic country that I love so much. I hope I Taught My Children Well.
  9. Ant and Sammy - I love you!! At last a couple of people who feel as I do about the Stones. Wild Horses was my first dance with my husband at my wedding. I won't go into lists- you've already mentioned most of what would be mine. Sticky Fingers and Get Your Ya Yas Out are probably my picks for best albums. I really like the best ofs(Hot Rocks, More Hot Rocks, and Forty Licks) just because there are so many of my favorites all together. I've seen them live every time they've played St. Louis. My daughter got me the DVD of their last tour for Mother's Day, sweet girl that she is(no flowers for me- give me the Stones). You should check it out if you haven't already. It's got them playing in the three different venues-clubs, stadiums and arenas. Different songs picked to fit each. Memory Motel played in the club venue sounds just like it should- smokey blues. They are the Ultimate rock band!
  10. She sounds a lot like me. Too bad more men don't realize just how lucky they are. Come to think of it though, my 50 year old, 200 pound, beer drinkin, couch potato, Father and Grandfather of the Year, can get me goin with that wink and wiggle of eyebrows everytime! No line necessary.
  11. In this forum Blues music as a whole is underated, I believe. And from a woman's point of view- Janis Joplin in particular. She was much more of a blues artist than rock IMO, and Jimi's blues tend to be underated also.
  12. Don't Try To Lay No Boogie Woogie On the King Of Rock And Roll! :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: :guitar: Dave, I think you are just a little too defensive. Denmark explained he meant no offense. I understand his puzzlement over the stated location of Liverpool. Liverpool is I believe to the northwest of London, and actually several hours drive. It is very near Wales. I am not a member of Mensa, just a high school graduate, but I'm pretty good at geography. However in Dave's defense, Denmark, would you know the location of Philadelphia in relation to New York City without checking a map? Be nice guys. ::
  13. Sister Morphine - Great song. Keep Off the Grass - Steppenwolf.
  14. Thanks. :: It was hard to find anything Stones-related that isn't copyrighted so that I could snatch it. This is a graphite drawing by Joe McKeller. It was taken from a famous Rolling Stone(mag)cover. He's got several drawings on the site I got this from. He's got talent. Check out stones.net/art.htm Ok, next question- how do you copy web addresses to your post like I see in other's, instead of typing it out like I did? You see I really am challenged!
  15. Talk to any old timer. My grandparents were farmers. they ran a lot of their lives by the moon. Ever pick up a Farmers Almanac? The real one.Everything from the first turning of the soil to planting crops to the harvesting of those crops is covered. Cut your hair or nails(you could transfer that into horses hooves)in the dark of the moon they won't grow back as fast. Potty training a baby can even be done by the moons cycle. I don't know if it all works but a lot of old farmers sure thought so.
  16. Whew, they are back. I would hate to think the little guys killed one another. Maybe it was that old Blue Moon! Now that I have figured out how to get the icon under my name, take a look at it. Is it any wonder that Jhonny Depp said he took his inspiration for Pirates of the Carribean from Keith Richards and Pepe LePew?
  17. You are very welcome. Glad to be of help! ::
  18. Why that would be Mr. Richards himself, guitarist of the greatest band in the world!! Hey- who stole the smileys? Rockon and the little confused guy are gone!
  19. If you haven't heard, tonight we will see that rarest of sightings- The Blue Moon. This happens when the lunar calendar and our calendar(I've forgotten the correct name)don't match up. So now all those things that we say we'll only do "once in a Blue Moon" we have to do tonight! Better get busy!
  20. Thanks.. I'm not quite as challenged as I thought. I'd really like to have a picture of the whole band though. But now that I can do it Yay me!
  21. Ok, you guys have listed everything I can think of except: Fire by the very strange Arthur Brown.Remember "I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE.." I heard that he really kind of thought he was- he'd dance around on stage with this hat on shooting flames out.
  22. They call Blue Oyster Cult BOC in St.Louis all the time. ::
  23. Why thank you very much! It still remains to be seen if I will accomplish this. DG- I would recind my opinion that you are bad bad man, except I think you would be disappointed!
