  3. I'll probably be de-starred for admitting I like Air Supply. Well, stars be darned then!
  4. Catherine I disagree with much of your list, particularly the Go-Go's and R.E.M., and yes even Air Supply (though I would deny my love for them even under torture). Why oh why am I so corny!
  5. I've also heard that Pearl jam is a euphamism for, um, "man juice" so to speak.
  6. Their Unplugged In New York CD is one of my all time favorites.
  7. I'm not to knowlegable on Pink Floyd (yet), but I do have a few favorites: Wish You Were Here Comfortably Numb Money Another Brick In The Wall Have A Cigar Hey You Time
  8. She's not a band, but I have made my hatred of Avril Levine pretty clear. She's too snotty and sneery. Not that I don't appreciate snotty and sneery (ie early E.C.), but on her it's grating.
  9. jippers is correct. Many artists are considered one hit wonders if they have only one song to reach the top ten, despite the release of other singles that may not do so well. I forget another great one hit wonder, "Kung Foo Fighting." I delivered this message with expert timing. You could say I'm fast as lightning. I'll assure you I'm not a little bit frightening. Ok I'm stopping now.
  10. can any one think of songs from commercials that are not exactly appropriate for the particular product? I can think of two: The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" used to sell cars. Yeah, the line "Shoot 'em in the back now" really sells on the road family fun. Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" used to sell Lunchables. When people hear that song they think of gettin in the mood, not lunch meat and a juice box.
  11. "Without You" was written by Nillsson, but covered excellently by Badfinger. As far as a 70s movie that features them both, I don't know.
  12. In "Let 'Em In" Paul Mccartney mentions: First Chorus Sister Suzie, Brother John Martin Luther, Phil and Don Brother Michael, Auntie Jin Second Chorus he mentions Uncle Ernie instead of Brother Michael. I am pretty sure Phil and Don are the Everly Brothers, so it makes since that Sister Suzie could refer to "Wake Up Little Suzie." Martin Luther is most likely Martin Luther King. I'm not sure if Brother John is John Lennon since the song was written 1976 and I think McC. and Lennon were still feuding. Brother Michael is probably Paul's brother Michael. Who is Uncle Ernie? My Beatles encyclopedia mentioned a Beatles song first titled "A Song For Auntie Jin" but the title was changed to a more famous one and I can't remember what song it is. Does any one have any idea who Brother John, Uncle Ernie, and Auntie Jin are?
  13. if your name was Bird, you would be named after her to, as in The Beatles "And Your Bird Can Sing." Mick Jagger also wrote "Wild Horses" about Marianne. To quote Sammy Hagar a la the Footllose soundtrack: "this girl gets around."
  14. The "slut" in question is Marianne Faithful. The Hollies changed Marianne to Carri Ann.
  15. Yes inded Andrea True was a porn star. She was living in Jamaica (I think) and had decided to some back to the U.S., but some political situation happened and she had to stay in the country and couldn't bring her money with her when she did return to the states, so, she recoreded "More More More." Vh-1 One Hit Wonders taught me that. How can I live without that show?
  16. You're welcome, but don't thank me, thank Alvin Tostig.
  17. I have selected 30 songs from 1975 to honor my 30th b-day next March. Thanks so much to everyone who answered my earlier post. I checked most of my songs with AMG and went with songs from albums released in 1975. I let a couple songs from '74 slide in because I love them and they showed up on some 1975 chart list I found. I have selected: Linda Ronstadt-Love Is A Rose ABBA-Mama Mia Janis Ian-At Seventeen LaBelle-Lady Marmalade Donna Summer-Love To Love You Baby The Captain & Tenille-Love Will Keep Us Together & The Way I Want To Touch You Fleetwood Mac-Landslide & Rhiannon The Carpenters-Solitaire James Taylor-How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You & Mexico Elton John-Someone Saved My Life Tonight Bruce Springsteen-Born To Run Glen Campbell-Rhinestone Cowboy David Bowie-Young Americans & Fame Paul Simon-50 Ways to Leave Your Lover& Still Crazy After All These Years Bob Dylan-Tangled Up In Blue The Eagles-One Of These Nights & Lyin Eyes Sweet-Fox On The Run Styx-Lorelei Jefferson Starship-Miracles Queen-You're My Best Friend Earth Wind & Fire-Shining Star America-Sister Golden Hair The Doobie Brothers-Black Water 10 CC-I'm Not In Love Thanks again everone! ::
  18. Janis Joplin-To Love Somebody, orig. by the BeeGees The Pretenders-Stop Your Sobbing-orig. by The Kinks
  19. My name song is about a dog? Oh Man! I should have been named Martha. That is a much cooler dog in music lore.
  20. I REALLY don't want either Renee or Pink playing my beloved Janis. I HATE Pink, and I just don't see Renee pulling it off. Years ago Lilly Taylor was attached to a Janis project that fell through. Too bad, cause she's the actress I would like to see as Janis.
  21. I have to say two more female singers Karen Carpenter Linda Ronstadt
  22. Music doesn't always have to be serious. I think about how smart Weird Al must be to observe what's going on in society, then to pick the exact right song to express it. People often think that because something is funny, it's not smart, but that is a great misconception.
  23. Elton John's "Levon" has a chrous of he was born a pauper to a pawn.... maybe that's it?
  24. yep scott, wer're just sitting here in Queens, eating refried beans.
