  1. I'd like to apologize if anyone ever took something I said as an "attack". I am passionate about little, and snobbish about less, but I take music ridiculously seriously. So I am inclined to feverishly defend what I like. The snobbish part means that I think I have the best taste. The problem I have with this situation is this: I like rap. I think it gets shortchanged far too often. I think a lot of it has to do with people being uninformed about it. I don't think statements like "Well, I've heard several Eminem songs, and I just don't see anything good about rap" are fair. I don't like Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I'm not going to condemn an entire genre because of that. That seems to be what happens. (BTW, that wasn't directed at you, Lucky - just referencing the example you provided.) I can't remember a 10 page topic about the merits of Southern Rock, or Country, or even New Wave and Grunge. There have been comments, I'm sure, but nothing polarizing. For some reason the rap discussions are. I've expressed distaste for plenty of musicians here - Madonna, Green Day, etc. - but I've never tried to convince anyone that they were wrong for liking them. Except for Peaches and Justin Timberlake, but that's different because someone I like to such a degree should not be a fan of that tool. We, meaning The Noble Songfacts Defenders Of Rap â„¢, have tried to defend the genre civilly, but in the most recent discussion have been met with further antagonistic remarks. Jokes are fine. Lord knows I rarely say anything serious here. But at some point it has to be obvious that we view the jokes as insulting our personal tastes. That's going beyond normal "music discussion". For the record, I try to avoid personal attacks, and I don't dislike anyone who doesn't agree with what I like. Sometimes you just don't want to hear the jokes/comments anymore, especially when the civil discussion has been long buried.

  5. It's not the one with "Hold On Tight" by ELO, is it? It's got that "Hold on tight to your dreams..." part, and it's in a car commercial.

  7. I've done it two ways. You'll need a an audio editing/recording program for both, though. I use Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, which are fairly fancy - you might be able to do it in the Windows Recorded program, but I've never tried. 1. Hook the audio outputs to a mixer that is hooked to your computer. Actually, if you have the right adapters you should be able to hook the outputs of the DVD player straight into your computer's audio card. Start recording. When it's done, divide the huge audio file into individual tracks, save/export them as mp3s, and then burn them or load them on an iPod. 2. In Cubase & Nuendo (possibly others), there is a "Remove Audio From Video" function. You open a new track, load the video, and select that function. Then split them, burn, etc. Hope this helps.
  8. Good for Joe Torre, or good face-saving negotiation by the Steinbrenner brood. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7349692?MSNHPHCP&GT1=10539 For the short version - he rejected the Yankees one-year offer.
