  1. No. No. No. Awesome. Here's another hint - he was 20 at the time. And sometimes "odd" and "genius" can be confused.
  2. OK, this rather odd musician made his television debut in 1961 on a variety show (not the most famous one). Who was this person, and what was the show? Bonus if you name what "instrument" he played.
  3. Paul McCartney did that, but I have no idea what the horse was called. "Martha II", perhaps?
  4. #1 is probably the Amen Corner version; they had the biggest hit with it. #2 is "Lady Run, Lady Hide" by April Wine.
  5. I was so afraid to say it, but it's Abba isn't it?
  6. Vicky, look for "Dementia 2000! Dr. Demento's 30th Anniversary Collection." It's on there by The Toyes, and you should find it reasonably cheaply.
  7. Correct! Manfred Mann/Earth Band Blinded By The Light (Springsteen) The Mighty Quinn (Dylan) Sha-La-La (Shirelles) Your go, Laurie.
  8. OK, one of the covers has a huge example of misheard lyrics.
  9. Hopefully softly, as I have no song to give.
  10. Elvis is so great; he'll probably not be appreciated like he should as a songwriter until after he's gone, and that's a shame. I know he gets credit now, but come on. The man is so brilliant, and such a chameleon. Another hint: 2 Live Crew also had a song with a similar title to this group's biggest hit.
  11. I've also been a huge fan since "Pablo Honey", and I can't think of too many groups (except for The Beatles) who showed such artistic growth from one album to the next. "Pablo Honey" was cool, though a little derivative of the whole grunge thing. But "The Bends" just blew me away, and "OK Computer" was from another planet. Even the newer stuff has great moments, though they get a little self-indulgent at times. You can't, however, fault them for that - they're making music for themselves, and if you like it great. If not, there are a million other bands out there. Anyhoo, if you can find the live "Like Spinning Plates" you're in for a treat. Also, there's a live version of "No Surprises", with only an acoustic guitar and vocals and alternate lyrics, that is absolutely heartbreaking.
  12. No, but can I change it? He's 1000 times better than who I came up with...
  13. OK, a fourth musical entity is involved, and it has to do with covers.
  14. No, though you may be correct. Since it's been a few days, and I haven't been on since Friday, should I just give the answer and let someone else start the game anew?
  15. The intro lick in "The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel is pretty amazing. The rest of the song is good ol' "Travis Picking" - good practice. Kind of like "Dust In The Wind". Try "Leyenda" - remember that car commercial (Lexus, maybe?), where they were showing how smooth the car rode? The guy was in the back seat playing this. You can find a lot of Carcassi etudes that are great for finger-picking, unless you don't like classicl guitar.
  16. Everything transient is but a parable; Everything inadequate is fulfilled here; The indescribable becomes actuality. The Eternal-Feminine shall lead us heavenward. -- Göethe "Faust" "Sharp as a razor, soft as a prayer" -- Tom Waits "Bad Liver And A Broken Heart" "Who are three people who have never been in my kitchen?" -- Cliff Claven
  17. The Shirelles Bruce Springsteen Bob Dylan
  18. Laurie - they all have songs called "Summertime". Janis' and Billy's were versions of the Gershwin tune, and DJJ & TFP's was based on Kool & The Gang. Different strokes, I guess.. Earth Angel - yeah, you didn't hear that? It was in December of last year, I think.
  19. They most certainly did. I was gonna pick Paris, as it's way more of a romantic notion, but Robert Palmer would've given it away too easily. Peaches, nice. Real nice.
  20. Enjoy the long weekend, Peaches, and we'll have a geek-off another day.
  21. OK, I' kind of mailing this one in... Nina Simone Jim Morrison Screamin' Jay Hawkins
  22. Stevie and The Beatles are the only two people I will never allow anyone to make fun of. I think he has to be the most complete pop musician in history, with the vocal, piano and songwriting skills he has. "You And I", "They Won't Go When I Go" and "I Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer" are possibly the most soulful ballads that will ever be written. His pre-80's output more than makes up for "Part-Time Lover" and "Don't Drive Drunk".
