  1. I know you were agreeing with me, man. I was simply musing on the subject to nobody in particular... I thought you had become less of an ass, but it seems I may have misjudged you.
  2. I suppose it was to their great fortune, but who knew what they would become...Can you imagine more recent "idol" bands reinventing pop music? Wait, then somebody might shoot Justin Timberlake in the mouth. *NSYNC is the greatest musical entity of all-time!!!!!
  3. Isn't that like saying that Prometheus wouldn't fit in at the Zippo factory?
  4. 1. That 75% influenced every rock band that followed them. Pretty much. 2. They actually created "that time", so I don't think they were lucky. And Ringo may not be Dave Weckl, but he was the best drummer they could have had, as far as a "fit" goes.
  5. That's certainly a step up from "Scooby-Doo And The Scary Chef". Oh well, she's only 3...
  6. We're a passionate bunch. Look, nobody is finding fault with you for having an opinion. But if one of us repeatedly said that Billy Joel or Lynyrd Skynyrd* was not music or crap, wouldn't you want to defend your taste? That's all we're doing. *I think you've stated admiration, but can't honestly remember.
  7. I typed this, then got called away. So it's probably too late in the discussion. What the hell, it's a bunch of gibberish anyway. --- It seems that people who are not fans of rap feel that way for two reasons: 1. "Not music" 2. "Threatening lyrics" I disagree on both counts. Music at its most fundamental is comprised of two elements - rhythm and melody. I don't think anyone can argue that rap doesn't have rhythm to spare. As far as melody...certainly there isn't as much melody to be found in rap as in a Beatles song, but it is there, and it's integral to the genre. I defy anyone to listen to "Roses" or "The Whole World" by Outkast, "Girls" by the Beastie Boys (gasp!) or even "Lose Yourself" by Eminem and then tell me there's no melody. The difference is that the melody is typically reserved for the "choruses" of the songs, usually referred to as "the hook". The bulk of the song is made of the rap, but what you remember is the hook. If someone asks you to sing "She Loves You" by The Beatles, are you going to sing the "You think you lost your love..." melody? No, you're going to sing the "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah..." part - "the hook". I'm not saying that Eminem is superior to the Beatles because he's more economical melodically. They're just different styles and approaches. As for the lyrics part...okay, they're not always something kids should hear, and not everyone can relate to the subject matter. But the same goes for most tv shows and movies. I've never beaten somebody up or drank Cristal, but I've also never been to space or been a sniper. In no way does that affect how much entertainment I get out of it. People need to realize that acting is a big part of the "offensive" hip-hop you hear. Like visual entertainment, it provides escapism. 50 Cent isn't going to shoot you, he wants to sell you Vitamin Water.
  8. "Fawn" by Tom Waits - nothing more beautiful for a send-off.
  9. I'd be much more ashamed to be the author of the second bit. That being said, I'm not much of a fan of listening to dudes talk about tail they obtained.
  10. Here's an easy shot at Sammy: Coolio and Chubb Rock are playing better football than the Dolphins right now.
  11. As has been said a million times here, when this subject is broached, there are "good" and "bad" rap artists, just as there are "good" and "bad" rock/pop/country/jazz/etc. artists. And, as far as I'm concerned, if Miles Davis can be in the hall then so can the Beastie Boys.
  12. He claimed to be researching a book, which is apparently also how O.J. got off.
  13. Closing slowly. I've been keeping my change in there, which has been nice.
