  1. Other sites you might consider: http://www.last.fm (A London-based site with fans of every kind of music you've ever heard of from around the world.) http://mog.com (A site associated with Rhapsody.com, but a place to upload an MP3 and write about music.)
  2. By all means, I looked up the first stanza to a sorta-well-known song by these "Celtic" Punks.
  3. Shouting down the Devil from Bluesman's Heaven. Ricardo Montalban.
  4. To be brief: 1. Your "musical age." (I'm definitely "sixties.") 2. Your life experiences that would otherwise only come out in criminal/civil court. 3. Your musical fantasies. 4. The depth of your veneer of civilization, aka barbarian/goody-two-shoes index. 5. For married folk, #20 is potentially dangerous, if your mate finds out!
  5. God Bless the Grass Notes: words and music by Malvina Reynolds; copyright 1964 Schroder Music Company, renewed 1992. People often think of this as an ecology song, but Malvina wrote it after reading Mark Lane’s book, Rush to Judgment, about the Kennedy assassination. God bless the grass that grows thru the crack. They roll the concrete over it to try and keep it back. The concrete gets tired of what it has to do, It breaks and it buckles and the grass grows thru, And God bless the grass. God bless the truth that fights toward the sun, They roll the lies over it and think that it is done. It moves through the ground and reaches for the air, And after a while it is growing everywhere, And God bless the grass. God bless the grass that grows through cement. It's green and it's tender and it's easily bent. But after a while it lifts up its head, For the grass is living and the stone is dead, And God bless the grass. God bless the grass that's gentle and low, Its roots they are deep and its will is to grow. And God bless the truth, the friend of the poor, And the wild grass growing at the poor man's door, And God bless the grass.
  6. Ahem. Imogene Coca's stealing the show from Jack Benny at Caesar's Celestial Palace. Dick Van Dyke
  7. Will these lyrics help? I'm a sailor peg and i've lost my leg i've climbed up the top sails i've lost my leg!
  8. Where was this thread going? Oh yes, something like: Granted. But he's your coffinmate, and the "various crawly things" have finished with him and are headed your way... I wish I had English lyrics to the PNG love song "Siasi."
  9. Yawn. So a Rock band doesn't want their stuff headed into the Public Domain swamp someday. I prefer the original "Stairway to Heaven" (movie) that featured David Niven as an RAF airman who is between Life and Death, having been overlooked after bailing out of his stricken aircraft...without a parachute! :sleepy:
  10. Mogger, "Indiepixie," traveling through France during Bastille Day, wonders about the state of Classical music in the U.S.: http://mog.com/music/Chuck_Berry ("I See London, I See France, I Saw Bastille Day & Wonder Why Americans Choose Backstreet Boys over Beethoven") I recognized George Gershwin's "Summertime" from "Porgy and Bess" as the first music+fireworks selection, but the second one is unfamiliar to me. So, is Classical music (NOT Classic Rock!) a musical endangered species?

  12. Granted. But your book, "My Dinner with Osama bin Laden" puts you square in the CIA's crosshairs. (Not to worry, Mossad has you on ice...lierally.) I wish Gracenote had a "Zydeco" category.
  13. Great Big Sea Name a Boston Punk band that's been grouped with GBS.
  14. That is an interesting image, now where's that 1967 "California Dreaming" demo of KC? Found it...right next to Nilsson's "The Point." :sleepy:
  15. When the subject of Karen Carpenter came up way back in the 1960's, it was usually one of jest and derision. As in: "You're a fan of that Pop drivel? The Carpenters!? They're a half step down from Mrs. Miller! Go listen to some Bo Diddley, take a ride on the Jefferson Airplane, then discuss some Serious Music!" (As in "Big Brother & The Holding Company," with Janis Joplin.) So what does Karen Carpenter have to do with "Eleven dollar bills"?
  16. "Na Lani 'Eha" by Ku'uipo Kumukahi "Anthology," a 2 CD career spanner of Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys (1950-1981) "Asking For Flowers" by Kathleen Edwards. :guitar:

  18. Sorry, English is my second language.
  19. So, it's a ribald answer you want? OK, here's another answer to #20: Katherine Battle. (If she's good enough for Christopher Parkening...)
  20. As I recall, Karen Carpenter was a very good drummer, so she was as much a musician as Fergie. So, can YOU do these 20 questions?
  21. Considering current events, species Homo Sapiens. Name your favorite species.
  22. When this post first appeared, question #8 was incomplete/unclear. I stopped at the last question for a Google! search, wiped everything, so I'll fill in the blanks once more. 1. What's your favorite band? Jim Croce's road band, if you mean in an "After Life" kind of way. (The only band to accompany one to The Next Life.) 2. Do you play an instrument? I've tortured 'Ukuleles and guitars. 3. Sing? Like a toad/frog in the summer time. 4. Write lyrics? "There once was a Rocker from Nantucket..." 5. Have you ever slept with a drummer? Does Hula count? 6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended? Any of the Diamond Head Crater Celebration new year/summer concerts of the late 1960's to early 1970's. One could see/hear the famous (Santana, Buddy Rich) to the not-so-famous (Cecilio & Kapono, Gabby Pahinui). 7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time? A tie between Andres Segovia and John Williams if you mean Classical Guitar. 8. Name a song that just makes you want to break stuff. "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones. 9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses. That subject's been addressed more times than necessary. 10. What's the best lyric ever written? "Oh Beautiful, for spacious skies..." 11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who? Since they never played Honolulu, the early Beatles. 12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be? The piano, so I could do "Dueling Pianos" with my sister. 13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone? What, stand in the way of someone's self expression? 14. What song do you have playing right now? "96 Degrees In the Shade" performed by Mana'o Company. 15. Greatest album in the history of time? Thomas Edison's first wax recordings. 16. Is Elvis still The King? Better him than Michael Jackson. 17. What's your favourite musical? "Man of La Mancha," with Richard Kiley as "Don Quixote." 18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind? Chuck Berry and Little Richard! 19. Ever wanted to be a D.J.? If college counts, I was an FM LP spinner in the 1970's. Otherwise, my music collection is good only for Classic Rock or Hawaiian-themed parties. 20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be? A tossup between Linda Ronstadt or Karen Carpenter? :sleepy:
