  1. Can't say I blame them, they'll need to be in top form when we seek our revenge next season in the Premier League (champion by one lousy point.) Though its not great news for Germany and worse for Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.

  15. Agreed. Things We Lost in the Fire is probably my favourite. "Sunflower" just missed out being included in my second PTT. Mimi and Alan's voices are in such perfect, beautiful balance even by their high standards. I also like their early stuff especially Long Division and The Curtain Hits the Cast.

  17. ^I loved that line. I also heard some unfavourable reviews about the ending. Forgive me this mild rant in reply. I absolutely agree that most of the negativity was by people who never really understood what the show was about in the first place: the characters, their stories, their lives, not some in-depth quantum mechanics-level explanation of how the island glows/time travels/gives eternal life/heals etc. Not always getting the full why and how is something everyone can relate to. People are more than the things that happen to them. But you don't need all the technical answers to understand the show, you just need to invest some time, attention and bit of brain power into the story which, as evidence by the popularity of reality TV, is something the general public seems strongly opposed to doing. As for the finale, I don't think they could have ended it any other way. Reconciling the flash-sideways with the regular time line was in typical mind-blowing, heart-wrenching yet believable Lost style. Death of some, survival of others, good trumps evil, Hurley in charge and Jack at peace, closing his eyes paralleling when he opened them after the crash in the first episode. Classic.
  18. ^Nice one. A friend of mine got me The Great Destroyer a little while ago. I particularly like "Monkey", "On the Edge of" and "California" as well.
  19. One of the most beautifully romantic songs I know: "Into My Arms" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (1997) And I feel the lyrics deserve a full cut and paste... I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him Not to intervene when it came to you Not to touch a hair on your head To leave you as you are And if He felt He had to direct you Then direct you into my arms Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms And I don't believe in the existence of angels But looking at you I wonder if that's true But if I did I would summon them together And ask them to watch over you To each burn a candle for you To make bright and clear your path And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love And guide you into my arms Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms But I believe in Love And I know that you do too And I believe in some kind of path That we can walk down, me and you So keep your candles burning And make her journey bright and pure That she will keep returning Always and evermore Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms, O Lord Into my arms And for balance, a decidedly unromantic one "Mr. Hurricane" - Beast (2008)
  20. I was actually thinking the same thing listening to this version (I like the Sundays cover too). Though it is an intrinsically great song, I don't really care for the original. Apart from the chorus, it just doesn't sound "right" to me.
