  1. oh-em-gee! I found the perfect song, and Not written for a commercial, just about them. Steve Goodman - Vegematic! I can't believe what you can find on youtube! Steve singing it on the album... Fell asleep last night with the T-V on. Oh, what a dream I had. I dreamed I answered every single one of those late night mail order ads. And four to six weeks later, much to my surprise, The mailman came to my front door, and I couldn't believe my eyes When he brought the Vegematic, and the Pocket Fisherman too, Illuminated illustrated history of life, And Boxcar Willie with a Ginzu knife, A bamboo steamer, and a Garden Weasel too, And a tie-dyed, dayglow souvenir shirt from Six Flags Over Burbank. The doorbell rang all morning and into the afternoon. I shook with fright as it rang all night to the light of the Master Card moon. There was Parcel Post in the pantry, and UPS in the hall, C O D's to the ceiling, and I just couldn't pay for it all. I got the egg scrambler, with a Seal-a-Meal carrying case, A set of presidential commemorative plates So I could eat my eggs off the President's face, A Minute Mender, and a needle that'll knit or crochet, And an autographed photograph of Rin Tin Tin at Six Flags Over Burbank. (same chords as 2nd verse:) I remembered I was dreaming, so I gave a mighty cheer. When I awoke, it was no joke, 'cause all that ******* was here. So if you fall asleep with the TV on, let me tell you what to do: Tear the telephone out of the wall unless you want it to happen to you. You'll get the Vegematic, and the Pocket Fisherman too, Illuminated illustrated history of life, And Boxcar Willie with a Ginzu knife, A bamboo steamer, and a smokeless ashtray too And an all expenses paid weekend for three at Six Flags Over Burbank.
  2. Erykah Badu - Green Eyes F**k Was I - Jenny Owen Youngs "Skillet on the stove It's such a temptation Maybe I'll be the lucky one that doesn't get burnt What the f**k was I thinking?" Peace The F**k Out - Travis there are just too many to name
  3. One of my favorite songs! And MY eyes, too! Erykah Badu - Green Eyes It's very smoooooth and jazzy. Think Billie Holiday. and uh-oo, a curse word too, I guess I have to put it on that thread, too! "It don't have nothing to do with your new friend My eyes are green Cause I eat a lot of vegetables It don't have nothing to do with your new friend" http://www.last.fm/music/Erykah+Badu/_/Green+Eyes (better than the videos)
  4. funny coincidence! Just noticed this thread and before I could look for music....next in my random itunes shuffle was, Handsome Johnny, sung by Richie Havens at Woodstock, first time I've had a chance to listen to my new track. Excellent song Two songs that get me every time are Wooden Ships - Crosby stills Nash & Young, and James Blunt- No Bravery. He wrote that amazing song just after getting back from Kosovo. Well, maybe it's more about war than soldiers. Also: On Up The Mountain - Jakob Dylan War Is Kind - Jakob Dylan Time To Go Home - Michael Franti & Spearhead (about Iraq) Everybody's Gone To War - Nerina Pallot Universal Soldier - Donovan Spoon River - Sung by Steve Goodman written by Mike Smith -a traditional style folk song about the Civil War Rages of Babylon - Joseph Arthur "Do you notice, when we are gone through the rages of babylon to protect the land of the free Will my family remember me?" oh wait, this is metal, I think, although it's hard to say if the "warriors" are real or fantasy, lol. It is very inspiring though. Warriors - Freedom call
  5. ohhh Norway is it? Sorry, I added more while you were posting.
  6. Yes, it's possible they are not talking about themselves, but if you listen to the video, or any of their music, it seems likely, esp since he talks about the "boy in the mirror". Of course, it's open to interpretation, so I guess it's off the list. Well. I tried. They are Danish, by the way. I hope you all listen, it's beautiful. ----------- Here's another maybe... what about mentioning songs by other artists? Does that count? Regina Spektor -On the Radio "while we were on our knees praying that disease would leave the ones we love and never come again and on the radio we heard november rain the solo's really long but it's a pretty song we listened to it twice cause the dj was asleep" Regina LOVES to make refers to things in her songs, mythology, bible, history, and music. Here's one for ya! Raindrops -Regina Spektor "Round each corner there’s a chance People searching glance to glance Moving bout real fast Like insects and fish when they’re scared And they sing the same old song Though it’s been so very long They sing, raindrops falling on my head But that doesn’t mean that i am dead " -------------- (she sings the line about it with the melody of the original song) Ahh... but then again, she did not mention the artist! Lol, I guess I'm not doing this right, eh?
  7. The guitar and violins are beautiful in this one, although it's not as clear on the video. Such a beautiful and brilliant song... The Weight of My Words - Kings of Convenience Could also be considered "easy listening". Very very easy.
  8. I have to mention this song I'm listening to, even though it doesn't QUITE fit. This singing duo with beautiful soft voices refer to THEMSELVES in their own song, without being obvious. It's a gorgeous song. If you like Simon and Garfunkel, you might like this. Homesick- Kings of Convenience "I'll lose some sales and my boss won't be happy but I can't stop listening to the sound of two soft voices blended in perfection from the reels of this record that I found every day there's a boy in the mirror asking me what are you doing here finding all my previous motives growing increasingly unclear....."
  9. I found 3 more: what do you think of this one? I'm not sure...it refers to "this one" as the song. Comes And Goes (In Waves)-Greg Laswell This one's for the lonely The one's that seek and find Only to be let down Time after time This one's for the torn down The experts at the fall Come on friends get up now You're not alone at all And this part was for her And this part was for her This part was for her Does she remember? It comes and goes and waves I... This one's for the faithless The ones that are surprised They're only where they are now Regardless of their fight This one's for believing If only for it's sake Come on friends get up now Love is to be made And this part was for her And this part was for her This part was for her Does she remember? It comes and goes in waves I... Am only led to wonder why It comes in goes in waves I... Am only led to wonder why Why I try This is for the ones who stand For the ones who try again For the ones who need a hand For the ones that think they can It comes in waves I... Am only led to wonder why It comes and goes in waves I... Am only led to wonder why Why I try -------------------- or this song by Michael Franti- Bomb the World" (a great peace song by the way) "So I sing out to the masses Stand up if you’re still sane To all of us gone crazy I sing this one refrain We can chase down all our enemies Bring them to their knees We can bomb the world to pieces But we can’t bomb it into peace" ------- and last but not least I was listening to this, it's sooo funny, the way they sing it!! The whole song is about him writing the haiku song he's singing... Haiko - Tally Hall One, two, three, four I have been trying to write A haiku for you Some things I just can't do Maybe you're beyond ancient Asian poetry Asian poetry Or maybe it's just me I have trying to get This haiku just right All night for you alright I'm through! Maybe this poem was lost In the sauce we spilled That never got refilled I've never thought much of formulaic verse anyway End rhymes are not my fort- I have been trying to get This haiku just right All night for you alright I'm through! I'm trying not to try to hard But you're hard to write down right So I pen these trite attempts At haikus for you tonight hee hee ha ha ha ha ha ha La da dee diddum La da daddum doo Diddle dum doo la deedle There! That's sufficient. I wrote a haiku for you Well I tried at least And that's not so bad I'm working here Can that be said for you? I'm trying not to try too hard But you're hard to write down right So I pen these trite attempts At haikus for you tonight Words don't work like Webster says They trip me up all night I'm just trying to write for you But you're hard to write down right not the best video, but the song is so adorable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWjr6V7HmeI&eurl=http://www.uulyrics.com/music/tally-hall/song-haiku/
  10. *mumblemumblemouthfulofcake* happy birthday, I'll have seconds!
  11. love the picture, uncle joe weather atm is in the upper teen's with flurries, but my brain is trying to convince me it's worse than that.
  12. Woo-hoo! it's a party! :happybanana: :happybanana: :happybanana: oh right and happy birthday, too
  13. Lady by Regina Spektor is all about Billie Holiday and refers to some of her songs. She even sings like her in the song. She doesn't actually mention her by name though. I know I have another song by Regina like that and I'll find it later. "lady sing the blues so well as if she mean it as if it's hell down here in the smoke filled world where the jokes are cold, they don't laugh at jokes they laugh at tragedies"
  14. The widgets are fantastic! I just listened to a song unavailable on another popular music stream site, and I get to learn about the song, instead of just reading spam, like, "over-rated" "no-under-rated!" where do I post broken links, etc? widget outa whack: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=8266
  15. my mother is now older than most of her friends, and she gets that look in her eye, when yet another friend/relative of her generation becomes gravely ill, or dies. Thinking about what she must be going through, reminds me to take the time each day to pay attention to people and things I could be grateful for but have forgotten in that moment, and to look more to the future to create what I need. I have a lot to heal in order to get there, some days are rough for me also. Music is one of the ways I try to cope, I have giant playlists around it, that's why I chose this name. here, take two and call me in the morning Careful, it's strong stuff, lol. Blues Makes Me Feel So Good - Albert Cummings http://blindingflashes.blogs.com/indiefeed_blues/2008/09/albert-cummings.html Alive In The World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjOFcJF_18g
  16. I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I've been getting into Frigtened Rabbit lately, and I like them too. I got introduced through my podcasts-I ended up with 7 songs free from different podcasts. My favorite so far is "Old old Fashioned" - so fun and charming! Always makes me HAPPY! It was from "IndieFeed: Alternative / Modern Rock Music" Love the accents too
  17. haha, enjoyed that silly thang! here's a fun one I listen to all the time. with great blues guitar and a new track "I Can't Get My Ass in Gear" Coco Montoya oh yeah baby  wait...I better go and do what the song says!
  18. Yes, no, and maybe so? Yes, I think I see your point, he's singing about himself singing ('xept maybe the line about the refrain?).And yes, maybe you're nuts, but then I feel like someone who recognizes that, can't be actually nuts. Is it, or not, I'll leave to the pros here. Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo Doo-dloo-doo-doo-doo-doo... I'm singing in the rain Just singing in the rain What a glorious feelin' I'm happy again I'm laughing at clouds So dark up above The sun's in my heart And I'm ready for love Let the stormy clouds chase Everyone from the place Come on with the rain I've a smile on my face I walk down the lane With a happy refrain Just singin', Singin' in the rain Dancin' in the rain Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah Dee-ah dee-ah dee-ah I'm happy again! I'm singin' and dancin' in the rain! I'm dancin' and singin' in the rain... [ADDITIONAL VERSE] Why am I smiling And why do I sing? Why does September Seem sunny as spring? Why do I get up Each morning and start? Happy and head up With joy in my heart Why is each new task A trifle to do? Because I am living A life full of you. ------- @I guess "Songs of Love" isn't then, either, since he's referring to others who are singing love songs, not the song itself. ------- @Found one! lol Makes Me Whole- Amel Larrieux okay it's the corniest thing ever, but it is pretty, too "Darling I want you to listen I stayed up all night, so I could get this thing right And I don't think there's anything missing Cause a person like you, made it easy to do I've waited for so long, to sing to you this song...."
  19. Anything by Railroad Earth, and it's contemporary. http://www.last.fm/music/Railroad+Earth Or Kaki King
  20. well, "singin in the rain" seems to be self-referential, I guess I could post the lyrics for the others, if anyone wants then, to see if they are.
  21. Songs Of Love - Ben Folds ...."So sing while you have time Let the sun shine down from above And fill you with songs of love Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice Fortune depends on the tone of your voice So sing while you still can While the sun hangs high up above Wonderful songs of love Beautiful songs of love Beautiful songs of love Beautiful songs of love" ----------- How about Singing in the Rain -Gene Kelly? Also, I Wrote A Song About Your Car -Mike Doughty And -Sing A Simple Song -Sly and the Family Stone just a few
  22. I think the environmental message is pretty clear, esp since the song is from the 70's. I always liked the way it personalizes to get you to imagine the trees, etc are talking to YOU, yet it's a beautiful song, too. I've listened to it so much, it's developed an even more personal meaning for me, as if life, or your own intuition is trying to tell you you are on the wrong path. I adore this album, one I had on vinyl and had search hard to replace in mp3. It's nature's way of telling you something's wrong It's nature's way of telling you in a song It's nature's way of receiving you It's nature's way of retrieving you It's nature's way of telling you Something's wrong It's nature's way of telling you, summer breeze It's nature's way of telling you, dying trees It's nature's way of receiving you It's nature's way of retrieving you It's nature's way of telling you Something's wrong It's nature's way, it's nature's way It's nature's way, it's nature's way It's nature's way of telling you Something's wrong It's nature's way of telling you In a song, oh-h It's nature's way of receiving you It's nature's way It's nature's way of retrieving you It's nature's way It's nature's way of telling you Something's wrong, something's wrong, something's wrong.
  23. Got to be one of my all-time forever favorite songs--never fails to lift me and amaze--and the instrumentals!! Gorgeous! Lake Shore Drive-Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah nothin like blasting this on the car radio, with all the windows open, singing it, and pounding the beat on the steering wheel...while on LakeShoreDrive, of course! Ohhh...here's another that will just WARM you right up, I gar-on-teee! Enjoy. It's HOT! I've seen it in concert, too....ohh baby! She's got some serious chops. Love Me Like a Man- Bonnie Raitt
  24. Naaa notachance! if you meant me. sorry, you'all gave me such a loverly warm welcome, very appreciated, and then... I guess I've become a sort of unreliable sort online these days. I find a nice place, settle in and then the next day, remember the 64 things I'm in trouble for not doing because I was doin whatever I wasnt supposed to do. So I try to stay away from things I might enjoy, then feel bad about staying away, and feel bad about not having fun. Now you know me well. Ironically while listening to "Time in a Bottle"-there's some meaning in there!
  25. I like them but I'm not named for them. I love music, but I use music strictly for medical purposes. Honestly. well, I have found it has amazing properties for fixing what ails you!
