I guess that's a little unfair, so here is a clearer pic of the same guy from about the same time:

Okay, I'm sorry about the quality of this pic, but it's a bit of a classic. I'll see if I can find a better one. Who is the guy on the right?:

"People try to put us down"

That's any old Morricone... and he looks sweet, not like Lector at all! Those big brown eyes. Whataguy!

I knew that...

"We don't need no education."
But to be the most recognised line ever, my mum and my wife would both have to know it, and that disqualifies 99% of the suggestions so far (including this one).
btw, I know I'm an ingenue, but what is this one from: "On a cold and grey Chicago morning" ??

Which line from a song do you think is the most well-known?
I'm thinking "You can check out any time you like, but you can't ever leave" from Hotel California is one of them.
I'm thinking that the best known lines will also be titles of songs, eg "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" or "You've lost That Loving Feeling".
When it comes to lyrics that are not titles, that's a different kettle of fish...

Well, I would say that Let It Be is just not up to the Beatles' usual high standards. But I wouldn;t in any way agree that it's a bad album. I can think of at least four classic tracks on there, and that's not even counting The Long And Winding Road. A bit of a mixed bag, but with enough meaty goodness to make most other bands green.

Blueangel has it. Booker T Jones. Multi-instrumental soul leg end.
Well done.

No to all of those. This guy is a Southern Soul legend...

Okay, anticipating great success, I ask... Who is this?:

That would be Ian Curtis. A legend indeed.

I think it's nice that these good English boys should donate a plaque for cricketers. I'm looking forward to reading the article when I can find my glasses...

Lea, I replaced this song.
Ooh, I would have found room for that one!

What a week! I couldn't find a place for one of my own noms, nor for the Beatles, or Smokey Robinson:
1. Jailbreak - AC/DC (1976)
2. Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead (1995)
3. Hippy Hippy Shake - The Swinging Blue Jeans (1963)
4. Pop Muzik - M (1979)
5. Pale Blue Eyes - Velvet Underground (1969)
6. Somebody To Love - Queen (1976)
7. Till The End Of The Day - The Kinks (1965)
8. Tired Of Being Alone - Al Green (1971)
9. Panic - The Smiths (1986)
10.First Of May - Bee Gees (1969)

I go with the obvious:
- John Bonham
- Keith Moon (when he exercises a bit of self-control... I'll vote for "I Can See For Miles")
- Stewart Copland
- Charlie Watts
The bloke from Rush is astoundingly awesome in a very wanky way.

Yeah, that's what had me puzzled. I'd swear the woman on the left is 10 years older than the one in the middle. But I'm just a pig-ignorant man...
-
... and which is the "young girl" that "comes from a french well known glamourous and trendy family"?
-
Which of the blondes is Liv's mum?
-
For any who are interested, here are all the noms I could find:

But if it IS in fact about his wife, it seems to be missing the obvious.
Obvious, but not necessarily related to what the writer is trying to say. The important thing about my relationship with Francesca, for example, is that she is "by my side". Whether or not she is my wife is relatively unimportant to me, and more of a legal/societal matter than a personal one.
Plus, "wife" would be a bit naff ;-)

I move that we give this one permanent nominee status. Seconded?

I recommend the original Sam Cooke. I've never yet heard anyone cover a Sam Cooke song that comes within a mile of the original. Otis' version of "Shake" maybe comes the closest ;-)

Bad Albums by Great Bands

Well, did they ever make a great album post Some Girls? Tattoo You was a brief glimmer, but that's about it. But I guess 17 years of classic albums is pretty impressive.
