See, back in the day, it was common to say "I own you" or something along those lines to mean "I'm better than you." So, to say something "owns" means to say that it's the best. Well, some dufus had typing issues or something, so "owns" became "pwns" and eventually this became netpopular. But now it's like seeing "l337." Not old school, just old.
