  1. On his latest album Bingo, Steve Miller recorded a version of the song Ooh Poo Pa Doo. The song is also known from Wilson Picket, Tina Turner and Slade. As a non-native speaker of the English language, I can only guess what the lyrics are about. I wouldn´t want to explain the details of my guess at this place. Can a SongFactor explain the meaning of the lyrics to me?
  2. So irritating, I recognize the melody but cannot come up with the name of it. If only my son was at home with his phone that has an applet that recognizes music..... It even recognized Robert Johnson's Dust My Broom!
  3. Oh. That one is different from the one that I know, by Van Morrison's Them: Baby, please don't go Baby, please don't go Baby, please don't go, down to New Orleans You know I love you so Before I be your dog Before I be your dog Before I be your dog I get you way'd out here, and let you walk alone Turn your lamp down low Turn your lamp down low Turn your lamp down low I beg you all night long, baby, please don't go You brought me way down here You brought me way down here You brought me way down here 'bout to Rolling Forks, you treat me like a dog Baby, please don't go Baby, please don't go Baby, please don't go, back the New Orleans I beg you all night long Before I be your dog Before I be your dog Before I be your dog I get you way'd out here, and let you walk alone You know your man down gone You know your man down gone You know your man down gone To the country farm, with all the shackles on by McKinley Morganfield a.k.a. Muddy Waters
  4. Norma Tanega: Walkin' My Cat Named Dog.
  5. It confirms me in my decision not to visit concerts with large crowds anymore. I don´t like (large parts of) the audience that are attracted by shows that big (also a full stadium, prepared for large crowds, scares me), and I do not trust the organizers (anymore) to take good care of my or anybody´s well-being.
  6. "Even the Rolling Stones"? No comprendo. Most professional PR-handlers of all rock bands since, let's say , the early 70s. IMHO.
  7. The Nimmo Brothers is a very impressive bluesband. Excellent singing, beautiful guitar, wonderfull classic bluessound. Somewhere inbetween Robert Cray and the Allman Brothers.
  8. Last week I had so much fun listening to a band I discovered: Me First and The Gimme Gimmes. I love their punk versions of Middle of The Road songs. These guys are active for over a dozen of years, and I never heard of them, over here in Europe. So what else did I miss? I know The Austin Lounge Lizards. I have the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, the Rutles, and Monty Python Sings albums. I also am familiar with Weird Al Yankovic, I do not think he's very funny. Any other suggestions for really humourous bands?
  9. A-Wop-bop-a-loo-lop a-lop-bam-boo Tutti Frutti, all over rootie,..... A-wop-bop-a-loo-lop a-lop bam boo
  10. Very much 1960s psychedelic WestCoast, i love it!
  11. He won't be any good in songs that Rod Stewart sang with the Faces. However, he might do well in Small Faces songs that Steve Marriot sang, like Tin Soldier. Yes, I am prejudiced..... :beady:
  12. Drummer Caesar Zuiderwijk joined the Golden Earring in 1970, that's why I thought they were a candidate. But yes, Stips played, recorded and toured with the Earring in the 70s, and appeared on the cover of a.o. the Contraband album, which interrupts the line-up. Also guitarist Eelco Schelling was with the band for a short while (one US tour, if I remember well). So ZZ Top have the oldest uninterrupted line-up?
  13. What is the band that is still active, with the oldest line-up, uninterrupted? Is it ZZ Top (since 1970)? Golden Earring (last change in 1970)? I think I've seen the question before, somewhere, but I can't find the answer anywhere.....
  14. I like that analysis. "Euro-disco", for Boney M and the rest what was perduced at that time in Munich and surroundings (Donna Summer e.g.), hmmm, OK. Second wave, Europeans trying to copy the succes formula. What about the third wave, the "Stock Aitken Waterman" tsunami that chased rock Å„ roll from the chart lists, early 80Å›? Anybody any qualification for that?
  15. The dutch band The Shoes had a big (local) hit with: Na-Na-Na. Late sixties. http://www.123video.nl/playvideos.asp?MovieID=400726
  16. Boney M is the act centered around Bobby Farrel. He lives in Lelystad, The Netherlands and is still active with a nostalgic disco tour. Details at http://www.bobbyfarrell.com/online/ .
  17. Good choice. Which one might have been the first with repetitive choruses? I am thinking of Little Richard 's Tutti Frutti.
  18. I apparently missed that remark on Allmusic. I am very curious for the answer, 'cause I am about to give the album to a real Neal Young all time fan, who claims to have all his recordings, but missed this one. I must, in this case, be (beat) an expert on Neil Young....!
  19. Is it known on exactly which tracks Neil Young accompanies Booker T. Jones on the album Potato Hole? Clearly on track one, Pound It Out, and on track 4, Native New Yorker. What about the rest?
  20. The Equals (frontman Eddy Grant) had a hit in the 60's called Police On My Back. The Clash covered it. "Well I'm running, police on my back I've been hiding, police on my back There was a shooting, police on my back And the victim well he wont come back I been running Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Runnin Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday What have I done? What have I done?" The Cure: Friday I'm In Love: "I don't care if Monday's blue Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too Thursday I don't care about you It's Friday, I'm in love Monday you can fall apart Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart Oh, Thursday doesn't even start It's Friday I'm in love Saturday, wait And Sunday always comes too late But Friday, never hesitate... I don't care if Mondays black Tuesday, Wednesday - heart attack Thursday, never looking back It's Friday, I'm in love Monday, you can hold your head Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed Or Thursday - watch the walls instead It's Friday, I'm in love Saturday, wait And Sunday always comes too late But Friday, never hesitate..." The Easybeats only cover the working week in Friday On My mind: "Monday morning feels so bad Everybody seems to nag me Come on Tuesday I feel better Even my old man looks good Wednesday just won't go Thursday goes too slow I've got Friday on my mind Gonna have fun in the city Be with my girl, she's so pretty She looks fine tonight She is outa' sight to me Tonight, I'll paint it red Tonight, I'll lose my head Tonight, I've got to get tonight Monday I have Friday on my mind"
  21. I can only lay my hand on 5:35 versions, not this 7:19 one. You can record it with one of the many sound recorders that are available.
  22. I am very much a Rolling Stones fan, have been so since I heard "It's All Over Now" the first time on a transistor radio. And I have very much disliked, from the first time I ever heard it, one of the most favoured Stones ballads: "Angie". Still zapping away from it.
  23. Impressive winner. I love that song. My favourite version is the one by Johnny Cash. I've been to: Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo, Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I'm a killer. [Chorus] I've been to: Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana, Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana, Monterey, Faraday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa, Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa, Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake, Grand Lake, Devils Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake. [Chorus] I've been to: Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, Ombabika, Schefferville, Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica, Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield, Shreveport, Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond du Lac, Davenport, Idaho, Jellico, Argentina, Diamantina, Pasadena, Catalina, see what I mean-a. [Chorus] I've been to: Pittsburgh, Parkersburg, Gravelbourg, Colorado, Ellisburg, Rexburg, Vicksburg, Eldorado, Larimore, Admore, Haverstraw, Chatanika, Chaska, Nebraska, Alaska, Opelika, Baraboo, Waterloo, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Sioux City, Cedar City, Dodge City, what a pity.
  24. The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band version, I presume....? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrZ6uIqGVi4&feature=PlayList&p=A09B33DC224F328C&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=25
