  3. Here's another Aussie classic that never quite made it in America. It's a very bitter song about lost love, but it also captures something quintessentially Australian in it's sound, if that makes sense. Just a sense of space and isolation and loneliness. I'm probably getting a bit too analytical! I just love it. One of my favourite songs ever. The sound on the Youtube really doesn't do it justice, but anyway ... Wide Open Road - The Triffids
  4. I hope it's not too late in the day because this is one of the best songs about fake people ... Dave Graney And The Coral Snakes - You're Just Too Hip Baby You’re just too hip baby ah-ooh-ah You’re just too hip baby ah-ooh-ah How did you get so detached, talking a mouth full of cash? You’re just too hip baby ah-ooh-ah You take a feather from every bird you see You never fly You’re just too hip baby I can’t wait for you anymore baby ah-ooh-ah I can’t carry you anymore baby ah-ooh-ah Ah, you live in an empty room You don’t cast a shadow You can work a mirror, yeah You take a feather from every bird you see You never fly You’re just too hip baby … You’re fading fast baby ah-ooh-ah There’s nothing to you baby, ah-ooh-ah Yeah, the lights are on, the front door’s open The furniture’s on the front lawn There’s no-one home at all Ah-ooh-aha, yeah, hey You take a feather from every bird you see You never fly You take a feather from every bird you see You never fly You take a feather from every bird you see You never fly You’re just too hip baby, hey, ah-ooh-ah …
  5. Really? I've never seen them. I'll keep my eyes out for them. I love Pink Floyd.

    TV on DVD

I only found out recently that the original music isn't included on the Northern Exposure DVD's. It's such a shame. The music is so integral to that show. I've watched some of my favourite scenes on Youtube with the original music and there's a huge difference in atmosphere. So disappointing.
  7. The Australian band Cold Chisel do a really good live version of Knockin' on Heaven's Door, better than the G 'n R one I think. But nothing beats the original. Such a haunting song. Anyway, did I mention Smashing Pumpkin's version of Landslide? I love that.
  8. I went to this exhibition last weekend. Amazing! http://www.nsw.nationaltrust.org.au/properties/gallery/exhibitions/ledzeppelin/default.asp
  9. The name of one of the candidates in the recent Australian Federal election was Kevin, so we had Stairway To Kevin ... He won too.
  10. After much thought, I think The Velevet Underground's Rock 'n Roll pretty much sums up the story of my life.
  11. Neil is my favourite artist ever. I'm hoping he comes to Australia with his new show. Fingers crossed.
  12. Well that would be my second choice so that's OK with me!
  13. I can never choose between I and IV. And I'll nominate Dylan's Blood On The Tracks if it hasn't already been done.
  14. Walk On The Wild Side is one of my favourite songs ever, one of the few I could listen to over and over again and never tire of. I just love it's simplicity, and how it all works so well together. I have a very strong sentimental attachment to this song as well. Anyway, according to the liner notes of Transformer the instruments are: Guitars, bass guitars, string bass, drums, tuba, baritone sax, piano and recorders. There's also an excellent documentary on the making of the album, from the Classic Albums series, called Classic Albums: Lou Reed - Transformer. You can get it at Amazon and other places as well I'm sure. It basically de-constructs each song, reducing it to each musical element and explaining how it was created. There's a great moment where Lou plays the very last part of Perfect Day. It's such a beautiful piece of music, even all on it's own, and Lou was just mesmerised by it. As was I! Anyway, I hope that helps.
  15. Thanks Laurie! That's the one. It's funny, the animation is a bit different from how I remember it, and I don't remember Jimi being in the video at all. It may be a composite of the animated video and a live show, or maybe I'm just getting old and losing my memory! But that's definitely the animation I was thinking of. I really like it and wanted to show it to someone. So thanks so much. Now I can go and get on with my life!
  16. Somebody on another forum has narrowed this song down for me. They say it's definitely Fire by Jimi Hendrix, so if anyone comes across it please let me know. Thanks.
  17. Thanks. At least I know it's not just me! It was such a great video and I really want to show it to someone. I'm on a mission to find this thing!
  18. Erotic Neurotic - The Saints
  19. Ooops, I knew there must be a reason. Thanks for letting me know.
  20. I've always wondered about this, so can I ask why it needs to go through an image hosting site? I just right click the image, click on 'Copy image location' and then paste that into the URL link box. Am I doing something wrong?
  21. Bob Dylan Patti Smith Neil Young Leonard Cohen And a couple of brilliant Australian lyricists - Paul Kelly Dave Graney (This man is both hilarious and profound. Pure genius!)
