  1. I had no idea the controversy I would cause when I mentioned Mr Jones.
  2. That just reminded me, Counting Crowes Mr Jones. I'm not sure but Janes Addiction's Jane Says might be a nod to The Velvet Underground's Lisa Says. I know there's one that refers to a Led Zeppelin song that's on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember what it is!
  3. Subterranean Homesick Blues - Bob Dylan, from Bringing It All Back Home. Now that's how you start an album!
  4. That is the perfect description of Neil's voice. Neil is definitely in tune with something out there in the ether. I'll add Freddy Mercury and the great Robert Plant to my list. Oh and Jeff Buckley. Divine.
  5. Sorry if it's already been mentioned ... White Summer, Black Mountainside - Led Zeppelin Wedding Cake Island - Midnight Oil
  6. Wide Open Road by the Triffids and Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley are great driving songs.
  7. Nice start! I take it you're a fan of Neil?
  8. I love acoustic music. I'm not a musician so I'm no expert, but Bob Dylan and Neil Young have done a lot of acoustic beauties. And I know Stairway is a bit of a cliche, but Led Zeppelin have some gorgeous acoustic guitar lines as well (That's The Way, The Rain Song, Over The Hills ..., Going To California etc.), although as I said I'm no expert so I'm not sure how difficult they'd be for someone just starting out. Anyway, good luck. I admire your efforts. I've always had a desire to learn, coming from a family of guitar players, but I just don't have the time or discipline at the moment. Maybe one day ...
  9. I'm not a musician so I don't know if he's technically the best, but for overall effect and pure rock 'n roll strut, the great Jimmy Page. Have you seen him lately? He's the coolest 65 year old on the planet!
  10. That's where I saw it katie_sane! The production with Iota and Paul Capsis etc. Iota did a great Frankie and Kelly Rode as Janet was perfect, but Sharon Millerchip as Columbia stole the show. She was brilliant! But I'm biased. Columbia is my favourite character. It was a great show. Have fun!
  11. Neil Young's Harvest Moon is kind of about aging and the cycle of life. That reminds me, The Circle Of Life - Elton John Tall Trees In Georgia - Buffy Sainte Marie
  12. I've never been to a screening, but I did see a theatre production of it just last weekend. It was so much fun. I think seeing it live is a bit different from seeing the movie in a cinema though, as far as interaction is concerned. There's less interaction seeing it in a theatre, where the expectation is more to sit and watch, although we did do the Time Warp at the end. They do the midnight screening on a regular basis here in Sydney as well, so I'll have to put that on my 'to do' list!
  13. Oh well, thanks anyway Farin! I idolise Patti and I think she's so beautiful and charismatic in that photo.
  14. Oh wow, that was quick! Thank you!! That's the one.
  15. I'm looking for a fine art portrait of Patti Smith taken by a well known photographer whose name eludes me. Maybe Robert Mapplethorpe but I'm not 100% sure. I saw it on an online gallery once. In the photo she has a bandana tied around her wrist and is cutting her hair with scissors. The expression on her face is fierce and uncompromising. The photo is in black and white. It's my favourite photograph of Patti. I've done a lot of different image searches but can't seem to find it anywhere. I know it's out there though! If anyone can help me find it and provide a link I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
  16. Is the little boy in the video for Bob Marley And The Wailers Waiting In Vain Ziggy Marley? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0pB267HSL0
  17. Gonna tell you a story 'Bout a woman I know When it comes to lovin' Wooh, she steals the show Ain't exactly pretty Ain't exactly tall 42-39-56 You could say she's got it aaaallll !!
  18. My mum used to sing Oh What A Beautiful Morning and Cat Steven's Morning Has Broken in a really grating voice so that we'd get out of bed for school. Anything to make her stop! What about Free Falling - Tom Petty Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix The Final Countdown - Europe
  19. This is my post from the other thread. I meant to put it here but I forgot where I was ... Patti Smith does a lot of spoken word, for eg. in Wave, Horses, and Piss Factory, which she recites more than sings. And the beginning of Birdland ... His father died and left him a little farm in New England. All the long black funeral cars left the scene And the boy was just standing there alone Looking at the shiny red tractor Him and his daddy used to sit inside And circle the blue fields and grease the night. It was as if someone had spread butter on all the fine points of the stars cause when he looked up they started to slip. Then he put his head in the crux of his arm And he started to drift ...
  20. After many years of thought, I've decided that Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed is my all time favourite song. It has such sentimental value for me, and it's just the perfect song musically and lyrically. AND it has the coolest moment in rock music history in it, in my humble opinion. "All right ... Ha!" So that's my choice.

I don't get conflicted about this stuff. I can't watch it at all. I find serial killer movies and shows like this deeply disturbing. I can't watch things like Silence Of The Lambs, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw, Wolf Creek etc. either. But each to their own. Have fun I suppose ...
  22. I was going to say the Charlene one that JuniorNB mentioned. I agree, it's one of the most cringe-worthy songs ever!
  23. I Can't Quit You - Led Zeppelin Into Temptation - Crowded House Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad - Meatloaf. Not that I listen to Meatloaf!
