    Letter L

TV show, drink, painter (last name), a song from the 80s, and the first L word at the top of your head

Oops, I was a little late..

  2. I think Get the Word Out has been used for more recent bands, so I feel weird talking about an artist that has been around for 40+ years.

Richard Thompson is a folk rock singer/guitarist who can be best remembered from his stint with Fairport Convention during the late 60s/early 70s. At the time, Sandy Denny was still on vocals. For a great while, he and his wife Linda were a duo during the 70s and early 80s. His most recognized song is probably "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" off of his Rumor and Sigh album.

In the last month I've become obsessed with Richard Thompson and try to find all of the music I can listen to online. But, there's a problem. There is no music. It seems as if no one has heard of this guy before which is a shame. It seems there is a niche audience that likes him, since he's still coming out with new stuff, but I have yet to find them.

Plus, THERE ARE NO SONGFACTS FOR HIM! I just submitted Cooksferry Queen and I hope it's approved.

  3. I thought I would bring up this discussion after I saw the trailer for Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story. I shouted "No!" at my computer screen when I heard M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" play over top the trailer. It didn't fit at all into what I thought the movie was going to be about. I guess maybe to appeal to the younger generation? I don't particularly like the song and it's been overused in movies and trailers from what I've seen lately.

Any opinions in songs you've heard in trailers lately?

  4. Led Zeppelin's "Traveling Riverside Blues" mentions their own song "The Lemon Song":

Squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg

Squeeze it so hard, I'll fall right out of bed

Squeeze my lemon, 'til the juice runs down my leg

I wonder if you know what I'm talkin' about

Oh, but the way that you squeeze it girl

I swear I'm gonna fall right out of bed

I did even more research (Wikipedia) finding the 'lemon squeezing' lyrics to be traced back to Robert Johnson's "Traveling Riverside Blues" who borrowed those lyrics from "She Squeezed My Lemon" by Arthur McKay.

  7. I'm waiting for any word on the next Pearl Jam album. I don't even know if they have started writing anything for it yet. Also looking forward to Funplex from The B-52's... and apparently Portishead has a new album I wanna hear.
