  1. Happy birthday honey, hope you have a good one you share it with : Aretha Franklin Elton John Finley Quaye Nick Lowe
  2. His song 'Penny On the Train Track' was probably my favourite track of 2006 - an absoloute masterpiece!
  3. Q. Why doesn't a French man have two eggs for breakfast? A. Because one egg is 'un oeuf'
  4. A 60's band from Montreal called The Haunted (who I seriously recommend) did a cracking vresion of Purple Haze in French called Vapeur Mauve Edith Piaf's 'Milord' never fails to blow me away The Wedding Present recorded a brilliant album in the late 80's of covers of traditional Ukrainian folk songs.
  5. Mid 80's hit in the UK called 'Kiss Me' by Stephen 'TinTin' Duffy (no I don't know why he called himself Tintin and nor do I care ) the chorus went 'kiss me with your mouth your love is better than wine but wine is all I have will your love ever be mine?' dreadful eh?
  6. Thank for the warm welcome everyone I don't drink diet coke as it has some dodgy chemical (with some very long name that I can't remember as I am a dunce ) which makes you even more thirsty and it does taste quite pants doesn't it? but I do like the avatar with the picture of the goose (or duck?? - told you I was a dunce)saying 'FONK!'
  7. Hi everyone My name is Roisin (pronounced Ro-sheen - it's Irish for Rose where my parents are from and where I lived in my teens) I work in the fiance industry (yawn) and am starting a new job in Canary Wharf on Monday - I was made redundant from my old job in July after they sent the work out to India. God I sound so bloody serious don't I? (I'm not!) my hobbies include, useless trvia, pub quizzes, getting drunk with my friends and all that other stuff like reading, theatre gym and laughing at chavs (or trailer trash as you guys over the pond call them!) I also love animals, have been vegetarian since I was 11, despise people who wear real fur, try to avoid wearing leather and only wear make-up and perfume that is not tested on animals. I'm mad about 1960's garage rock I also like The Fall, The Smiths, The Bees, The Dead-60's, The Violent Femmes, Nina Simone, Dinosaur Juniour, Primus, Nine Simone, Motown, Doo-Wop, Bob Marley, The Clash, The Specials, Can, The Byrds, The Standells, The Creation, The Go-Team, The Seeds, the 22-20's, Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, The Flamin'Groovies, Neutral Milk Hotel, 13th Floor Elevators, Mando Diao, Kasabian, The Kinks and much much more (I'm going on aren't I? Blah Blah Woof Woof) I cannot stand The Feeling - to those who don't know them you are lucky, they are a shite British who churn out painfully wet tunes with crap lyrics like 'I love it when you call but you never call at all' - they get played constantly here. I am also getting driven mad by a song called 'Same Jeans' by a band from Dundee called The View It gets played here ad nauseum at present and is a shameless rip-off of 'Brimful of Asha' by Cornershop, Glad I stumbled across here, seems like an interesting and friendly place I will sort out a more flattering picture of me for the photo thread soon.
  8. The Sony Center in Potsdamer Platz which was formerly no-man's land between the former East and West Germany - it is now full of large modern buildings They also did ice-creams in the shape of hamburgers and pizzas which we all decided looked a bit 'wrong' Andy the guy in the middle who is from Kansas finished off everyone's ice-cream (most of us could only manage half) and threw up in bar shortly afterwards
  9. Me in Berlin in an Ice-cream parlour recently with friends from my language course (I'm the one in the picture who is female)
  10. Yes this is exactly what I meant didn't mean to cause confusion, but was tickled pink by someone thinking I meant large piggy banks in the shape of coke bottles ( I have never seen one and now I want to get one)
  11. I agree too, I never tire of hearing this song (it was a massive hit in the UK a year ago) amd what a voice that guy has got - incredible
  12. Sad Lisa by Cat Stevens - amazingly haunting, even the instrumental break with the violins makes one want to cry
  13. anyway back on the topic, how about this from 'Riders on the Storm' (which is a very good song though) Into this house we're born Into this world we're thrown Like a dog without a bone An actor out alone Sounds like Jim was just throwing any old words in just to make a verse another bad lyric comes from Shed Seven's (fantastic) song 'Chasing Rainbows' everybody had a laugh and then went for an early bath, did you? truly truly awful yet for some reason I can help but like this line
  14. I found it hard to believe when I first read it somewhere but it turns out to be true defintely one my favourite pieces of useless trivia
  15. Wow what a lovely welcome you have all given me thanks very much guys, though regarding the 'brother' reference the last time I looked I was a girl I'll stick defiantly to my 'musical pirates' comment as I hate Oasis especially that fist-magnet Liam Gallagher } they have done some good songs, and yes I know most bands do it including two of my favourite artists Paul Weller and Mark E.Smith - but Oasis do it so blatantly and constantly and have been lauded by the media way too much on this side of the Atlantic for way too long. anyway rant over, I am in a good mood becuase I have just bought tickets to see The Bees with my two best friends oon Wednesday - can't wait by the way as this forum is called Songfacts, did you know that Fatboy Slim's father invented the bottle bank? ('tis true)
  16. Thank you, I named myself after Iggy Pop's first band (their song Again and Again is one of my all time favourite songs) A lyric I really really hate the line from Nirvana's 'Heart Shaped Box' about eating cancer -so bad I can't even quote it as it turns my stomach Ruins what is otherwise a rather good song
  17. L LOVE this song but have to admit this lyric has never stood out to me until now I guess cacti wouldn't have fitted in
  18. Hi everyone *waves* The worst lyric ever is from those musical pirates Oasis Slowly walking down the hall faster than a cannonball er..yeah...right
