  1. It seems the topic of this thread has again shifted from its original question concerning The Who and Led Zepp to the ongoing discussion of The Rolling Stones being diverse or not.

I kept with the topic but it shifted, I see that alot here and can understand it, but why not make a thread about the diversity of bands and take the discussion there about The Stones? I will say I was weary of discussing, you all get very worked up sometimes. :P

  2. Singer Jon Bon Jovi formed a special supergroup to celebrate Labor Day, comprising of Billy Joel on piano, Jimmy Buffett on guitar and Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters on vocals.

The impromptu performance took place a party Bon Jovi threw on Sunday night at his Long Island, New York home.

The rock legends performed Bon Jovi and Beatles tunes, along with many of Joel's own songs.

Guess my invitation got lost in the mail!

  3. Back when Van Halen hit the scene it was like, man this band kicks a**!! Their sound was rockin' hard and Eddie brought guitar rock to the top of the charts. I never cared for David Lee Roth, but his antics onstage gave the band that certain uniqueness of their own. And I agree that without Michael Anthony this is not a true Van Halen reunion tour. Wolfgang may play just fine, but he wasn't there from the beginning and didn't help carve the name Van Halen in rock history.

  4. Sad part for me is I own these movies but still won't turn the channel....

    Pretty In Pink

    Breakfast Club

    Steel Magnolias

    When Harry Met Sally

    An Officer and a Gentleman

    To Sir With Love

    Terms Of Endearment

    Silverado

    Saturday Night Fever

    HIgh Fidelity

    Gone With The Wind

    Giant

  5. Watched an interesting movie on Lifetime, ok guys stop laughing, it was Normal Adolescent Behavior. A group of six friends who had know each other since grade school that only hung out with one another and they all had sex with each other. They had these little boxes with their names on it and it held things that were important to them for whatever reason. They were a strange group of teens. I grew up when sex was something everyone was doing but I don't remember it being normal to have a "special" group and those were the only people who you had sex with or even hung out with not letting anyone else in. Very strange movie.

  6. I want to cast my vote for Zeppelin. I listen to The Who, but I favor Zeppelin. They were the heavy metal band of their time. The way they incorporated the blues into their music and even some folk gave them a great sound. And I applaud them for not releasing singles to make it on the charts, they made albums that rocked, not albums full of chart topping hits. They were the pioneers of album oriented rock. And they didn't seem to give a damn that the press wasn't always praising their music.

Yes, The Who has had longevity and still puts out great rock and roll, and had John Bonham not died Zeppelin might still be rocking, we will never know for sure.

I will always look back and remember the sound of Zeppelin and be glad I was there to enjoy it from the beginning.

And sammy, I do agree with your above statement on the diversity of The Rolling Stones.

  7. Last month, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony wrote a letter to fans on his Web site explaining that he was never invited to take part in the band's reunion tour with David Lee Roth. Anthony wrote, "It's not that I'm not touring with Van Halen because I'm going out with Sammy [Hagar]. I'm going out with Sammy [under the name The Other Half] because I was not invited to do the [Van Halen] tour. Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least. Well, it's not to be, and life goes on."

Now, with everyone and their mother asking Anthony why he's not doing the VH tour, he has spoken more about it with MTV News. "That's the one thing that's really kind of sad," he said. "It would have been cool to get onstage with Dave again, but I'm not going to whine about it, because that's the way it is. Why waste my time trying to make a stink about it?"

Anthony also explained that his past touring with Hagar was never meant as a slight against his former band, and he doesn't believe that it's the reason for his exclusion. "I was touring with Sammy when Van Halen wasn't doing anything, and people said that got under their skin, and they felt like I was betraying them or whatever, which I really wasn't," he said. "I wasn't going to sit home and do nothing. My wife wanted my ass out of the house. So when Sammy called and said, 'Hey, want to come out and jam a song or two?' that's how it started. I don't know why I wasn't asked to do the [VH] tour."

Anthony continued, "I know in the past there's been a lot of fighting and drama, but I'm not into all of that, especially now. And I'm not going to sit there and whine about it and call these guys motherf***ers and the whole bit. It is what it is, and if [Eddie Van Halen] wants his kid to play with him, fine. But they're really throwing him into the lion's den right off the bat. This is going to be a tough enough tour for those three guys, having not played for so long, and then throwing [Wolfgang] in the mix? ... I hope he does OK. It's sad that the fans aren't going to see the original lineup."

Meanwhile, Anthony will hit the road with Hagar this fall for a tour that kicks off in Biloxi, MS, on October 19. The trek will feature Anthony's Mad Anthony Express, Los Tres Gusanos, The Other Half, and Sammy and the Wabos

  10. If You Leave Me Now ~ Chicago

If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me

    No baby please don't go

If you leave me now, you'll take away the very heart of me

    No baby please don't go

A love like ours is love that's hard to find

How could we let it slip away

We've come too far to leave it all behind

How could we end it all this way

When tomorrow comes we'll both regret

    Things we said today

A love like ours is love that's hard to find

How could we let it slip away

We've come too far to leave it all behind

How could we end it all this way

When tomorrow comes we'll both regret

    Things we said today

If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me

    No baby please don't go

Oh girl, just got to have you by my side

    No baby, please don't go

Oh mama, I just got to have your lovin, yeah

We've come too far to leave it all behind

  11. Leaving On A Jet Plane ~ Peter, Paul, and Mary

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go

I'm standin' here outside your door

I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn

The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn

Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me

Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane

I don't know when I'll be back again

Oh, babe, I hate to go

There's so many times I've let you down

So many times I've played around

I'll tell you now, they don't mean a thing

Every place I go, I think of you

Every song I sing, I sing for you

When I come back I'll wear your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me

Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane

I don't know when I'll be back again

Oh, babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you

One more time, oh, let me kiss you

Then close your eyes and I'll be on my way

Dream about the days to come

When I won't have to leave alone

About the times that I won't have to say ...

Oh, kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me

Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane

I don't know when I'll be back again

Oh, babe, I hate to go

And I'm leaving on a jet plane

I don't know when I'll be back again

Oh, babe, I hate to go

But I'm leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    Leaving on a jet plane

    (Ah ah ah ah)

    (Leaving) On a jet plane

I still shed a tear or two when I hear this song.

  12. Oh my gosh...did "Julie" manage to crack a smile there!...that girl never smiled...

Loved the show too SJ! :shades:

Talk about taking a trip in a time machine...WOW!! There was something just so cool about that show. Linc was my favorite, he was very cool and strong and oh so sexy, said very little but what he said was groovy man!

    :afro:

  13. Where is Ann Wilson?

Yes that was one voice that should have been listed. Also Dale Krantz, she started out as a backup singer for 38 Special and then the lead singer for The Rossington Collins Band. Very powerful gutsy and gritty voice. She reminded me of Janis Joplin, that in your face raw passion. Too bad she never tried to make it on her own, she just might have with the right people behind her talents.

  14. Hello musiclvr...and welcome to Songfacts...Yes we do enjoy discussing music, that's for sure!

Thanks for the welcome. I must admitt you all seem to discuss music very strongly, seems the discussions get heated up. Guess you get that way about something that is a passion. I will watch for now. :)

  15. Stevie Wonder's version of Blowin' In The wind, he give it a new feel, very soulful and almost a gospel edge, but at the same time doesn't take away from what Bob Dylan was writing about, take a listen. Stevie talks for a few mintues at the beginning but keep listening.

    Blowin' In The Wind Stevie

And Sam Cooke also has good version. He jazzed it up some, got that Motown groove goin' on, but still woorth listening to. This is not the best sound quality but you can still hear it.

    Blowin' In The Wind Sam
