  1. The Fleshtones--Right Side of a Good Thing
  2. Never understood why any musician or group is considered a "sellout." Perhaps if you spent your hottest years singing militantly against Madison Avenue and Wall Street and corporations, then you suddenly started licensing your music to them, then maybe I can see the point. But if you are a musician who put some notes and words together and compared your youth to a rock, and allowed a truck manufacturer to use them, where is the hypocrisy in that? If that is the definition, then any musician who signs a record deal is a sellout. The author claims that it's OK for bands just starting to sellout in order to get exposure, but established bands who do so are just "greedy." Where is the greed in trading a product (music) for money? That is a clean transaction and a fair trade, and no one is harmed by it. How can that ever be defined as greed?
  3. Don't Get Around Much Anymore--Duke Ellington Love this song (and almost anything Duke related). This version has Duke playing with Ella Fistgerald singing. Not my favorite version but still good.
  4. I especially like Mann's covers of "For You" and "Spirits in the Night."
  5. Don't know if they have been listed yet, but I like Elton John's versions of the Who's "Pinball Wizard" and the Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." Further, I prefer any Manfred Mann cover over any Bruce Springsteen original.
  6. Time Will Show the Wiser--Fairport Convention This is a song that shows a fusion between folk and rock. Very nice. Also like Michael Nesmith's Joanne This video has about 3:30 of his banter with the audience before the song begins. Very different than the Monkees. Again, very nice.
  7. "The Humbler" is outstanding! Good call, bazooka!
  8. Northern Lights--Renaissance Though "Ashes Are Burning" is excellent, also.
  9. I came upon a child of God. He was walking along the road, And I asked him, "Tell me, where are you going?" And this he told me: He said, "I'm going down to Yasgur's Farm. I'm going to join in a rock 'n' roll band. I'm going to get back to the land And get my soul free."
  10. A couple of others I like: Black Star--Touch (at about the 3:40 mark, we get video of the band) Old Judge Jones--Les Dudek Chris Rea--Road to Hell
  11. And on a rougher note, I absolutely love Ian Drury and the Blockheads' tribute to Sweet Gene Vincent
  12. For the longest time, I couldn't find a copy of "Every Step of the Way." Couldn't even find the lyrics, so when I did find the song., I transcribed the lyrics. Love this song! Most don't know Walsh was a member of Streets that had a couple of hits in the '80s including Everything Is Changing. Very different than Kansas or Schemer Dreamer. I also like John Stewart. The former Kingston trio member had a couple of hits in the late '70s including Gold and Lost Her in the Sun
  13. Lucky, I didn't realize that about "Lakeshore Drive." I thought everyone knew that song. A couple more for you. Everyone knows Kansas, but most don't know anything before "Carry On Wayward Son." But Icarus-Borne on Wings of Steel is an outstanding song. I also like just about anything that Savoy Brown did, including Train to Nowhere
  14. Lucky, You bet I will. How about these two: I Could Be Good for You--707 Breadfan--Budgie
  15. Lots of good music that got little pay in the old days and gets none now. One of those is Amnesia--Possette-Dart Band
  16. I would also have to add another St. Louis legend. Mama's Pride was huge in the Midwest, and "Blue Mist" was their best. Blue Mist--Mama's Pride
  17. Good thread, Lucky. I get to listen to KSHE every day and look forward to John Ulett's KSHE Classics show. Some of my favorites: Never Met a Dog--Vinegar Joe Love Robert Palmer's vocals here. Megaforce--707 The Last Illusion--JF Murphy and Salt Take Me to the Kaptin--Prism Tomorrow Night--Shoes Did You See Him Cry--Pavlov's Dog Of a Lifetime--Journey From their first album. It's Journey like you never hear Journey. East of Eden's Gate--Billy Thorpe This was a follow up to "Children of the Sun," but in my mind, much, much better. Gudbuy T' Jane--Slade Small Paradise--John Mellencamp And a little "new wavier" but I like Downstream--The Rainmakers Finally, a forgotten hit by the Kinks Living on a Thin Line and one of the Midwest's best regional acts Tonight--Shooting Star
  18. No, it's not the Threshold tune. The words I originally posted that are not in parentheses are the correct lyrics.
  19. Which means I'd have to listen to the whole album....twice
  20. I know it's not Tull, Dave Matthews, or Van Halen.
  21. BTW, I know it's not "Slipstream" by the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. I love that song; it's just not the one I want!
  22. I heard a song over the weekend that I really liked, but I have been unable to find lyrics or artist. It's a male singer, likely from a group, and probably a '70s rock song. I only remember a portion of the chorus and it runs something like this: Caught up in a (the?) slipstream, (Looking like?)a bad dream Any help?
