  1. I certainly hope you can change your votes, because I did. Do you count all the votes at the close of voting or do you count them when you receive them Darryl?
  2. Both correct. Anyone can post their own lists of middle names now.
  3. 1. Sweet Child O' Mine 2. Purple Haze 3. Nights In White Satin 4. My Generation 5. The Sound Of Silence 6. Tears In Heaven 7. Whole Lotta Rosie 8. Fire And Rain 9. Losing My Religion 10. My Way
  4. Post the middle names of the members of a band (or a few bands if you wish), and the rest of us have to work out which band it is. You do not have to work out all the previous bands in order to post your own - you may do so whenever you wish, and post as many bands as you wish. If the person's middle name has changed at any point in their life, post any one of their middle names they have had. If they have no middle name, state how many band members have no middle name. If the bands members has changed over the years, post the middle names of all members at a certain time. 1. Paul, Patrick, Anthony and Henry 2. Phillip, Robert, George, Brian and one artist with no middle name (I think).
  5. Epic/progressive/psychedelic rock, or basically any rock songs from 6-30 minutes long (but no metal). Then again, this has been the same for about a year now, so it's not exactly an obsession. A more recent obsession of mine is The Rolling Stones. I only just recently bought the Forty Licks compilation, and naturally it's great.
  6. Due to the 1965-1975 domination we have had so far, I suggest a "No 1965-75" themed top ten some time soon. Or maybe narrow it down even more and say no sixties or seventies.
  7. I know I'll just keep on trying harder, picking more and more popular songs until I get at least one in the top ten. I was pretty disappointed with "Behind Blue Eyes" just missing out by 2 points (and it would have been 11 if OLD55's attempt to dock it points went unnoticed } ) So I guess I'll pick a couple of more popular songs so I'll stop fretting about not getting in the top ten. My nominations are: "Nights In White Satin" - Moody Blues "Purple Haze" - Jimi Hendrix
  8. 1. Rain Song, The 2. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For 3. Behind Blue Eyes 4. Sultans Of Swing 5. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet 6. Boys Of Summer, The 7. Boys Are Back In Town, The 8. Karma Police 9. California Girls 10. Cover Of Rolling Stone, The Haven't heard many of the others.
  9. "Badge" - Cream "Innuendo" - Queen "In The Evening" - Led Zeppelin
  10. "The Rain Song" - Led Zeppelin "Behind Blue Eyes" - The Who
  11. Obviously you can't judge a genre without hearing all of the best artists and songs. However, when you are talking about rap, there is so much of it around that it's pretty much impossible not to hear all the hits, unless you live under a rock. Rap fans often tell me "I bet you have only heard about five rap songs before", but the in reality is the number I have heard is closer to 500 (beginning to end, several times in most cases, with only a tiny hint of exaggeration), and I hate pretty much all of them. I can't think of any popular rap artists that I haven't heard much of, with the exception of Grandmaster Flash. Perhaps I should just listen to a few of his songs to reinforce my argument. Anyway, the longevity of rap and the diminishing quality and popularity of the better forms of music are mostly the fault of the big record producers. They continue to accept and promote loads of rap and hip hop artists, while only accepting others if they are "radio friendly", and doing pretty much nothing to promote them. Didn't disco die out after a huge "Disco Sucks" demonstration? Do you reckon if we got enough people we could do the same with rap and hip hop? Maybe disco will re-evolve from modern dance music some time soon. On the other hand, it might take a while longer for modern pop and rock to evolve back to how it was back in the good old days (ie. years before I was born).
  12. I don't know the answer, but it just so happens that Brad posted the lyrics to "Popcorn Pie" by W.P. Mosely in the Word Up thread in the Fun and Games boards. I suppose that confirms the existence of W.P Mosely and the song. As Earth-Angel mentioned, we need one of the musical geniuses from these boards to answer this. Especially Brad.
  13. I guess I'll make a contribution, although this thread has been dormant for several months. Even though they are all excellent bands, I have a definite order: 1. Led Zeppelin 2. Pink Floyd 3. Queen I do know them all pretty well, as I own Remasters, Echoes and the Platinum Collection. Favourite songs from each: Led Zeppelin: 1. The Rain Song 2. Stairway To Heaven 3. Kashmir 4. Whole Lotta Love 5. No Quarter Pink Floyd: 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond 2. High Hopes 3. Comfortably Numb 4. Wish You Were Here 5. Time Queen: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody 2. Innuendo 3. Somebody To Love 4. Under Pressure 5. Who Wants To Live Forever I can't believe so many people listed their favourite Queen songs, yet none listed Innuendo. IMO Bohemian Rhapsody and Innuendo are clearly their two best.
  14. I like that song, but I know some people who hate it simply because of how long the solo is. Anyway, over here in Australia, everybody loves Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel.
  15. Let me just remind everyone who likes 6 minute long or more epic rock songs that after a drought of such songs in the 80s (I think, or at least I haven't found any), they sort of returned in the 90s. My favourites are: Guns 'N Roses - November Rain, Civil War Oasis - Champagne Supernova Pink Floyd - High Hopes Queen - Innuendo Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
  16. There aren't really any bands that are popular amongst people with good tastes in music that I dislike. I guess the band I hate the most has to be the Black Eyed Peas. Oh yeah, and Madonna and Kylie Minogue are really annoying. Plus I can't stand 99% of rap songs.

    Word Up II

The sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land, Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky, A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers, But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking, He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise, In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise, He's chained forever to a world that's departed, It's not enough, it's not enough. "Sorrow" - Pink Floyd (sorry I had to pick a song with the same title) Word up: troubadours This shouldn't be too hard, I can think of two popular songs with this word.
  18. Just a short list for me: Powderfinger - Love Your Way, Sunsets, My Happiness. Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Look What You've Done, Rollover DJ. Wolfmother - Mind's Eye, White Unicorn. Grinspoon - Chemical Heart. That's right, all by Australian rock bands.
  19. Ok, I'm going to list the artists, and I ask everyone else to do the same. I just plain don't like it when people list songs and I have no idea who they are by. I think I'll stick with songs by rock bands (but not necessarily rock songs), and most of the ones I list will be from the 80s or earlier. AC/DC - It's A Long Way To The Top, Highway To Hell. The Beatles - Norwegian Wood, In My Life, Eight Days A Week, Eleanor Rigby, A Hard Day's Night, Yesterday, A Day In The Life, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, Revolution, Back In The USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun, Something, Let It Be, The Long And Winding Road. (Could keep going with this band but I think that's enough) Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer, Wanted Dead Or Alive. The Clash - London Calling. Cold Chisel - Khe Sanh. Cream - Crossroads, White Room, Badge, Sunshine Of Your Love, Swlabr. Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water. Derek And The Dominoes - Layla. The Eagles - Hotel California. Guns 'N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine, Patience, Civil War, November Rain. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, All Along The Watchtower. Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song, Good Times Bad Times, Dazed And Confused, No Quarter, Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Kashmir, Ramble On, Achilles Last Stand, In The Evening, Rock And Roll, Stairway To Heaven, Since I've Been Loving You, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, The Battle Of Evermore. Metallica - Nothing Else Matters. Oasis - Champagne Supernova. Pearl Jam - Alive. Pink Floyd - Time, Comfortably Numb, Us And Them, Money, Sheep, Sorrow, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, High Hopes, Wish You Were Here. Powderfinger - Love Your Way. (yeah I know it was only released a few years ago but I couldn't resist) Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love, Innuendo. Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under The Bridge. The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up, Gimme Shelter, Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Angie, Sympathy For The Devil, She's A Rainbow, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Wild Horses, Ruby Tuesday, Paint It Black, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll. U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, One. The Who - My Generation, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again. Stevie Wright - Evie parts 1,2 and 3.
