  1. That's funny, your avatar looks like a Triforce. It's also one of the many memes that originated on 4chan. I don't think I'll explain it any further.
  2. It's really sad that I fully understand the Triforcism one, and that it's the one I laughed the hardest at.
  3. Meh, anything that pisses Simon Cowell off (whether he admits it or not) is a good thing in my book.
  4. 1. Punk And The Godfather, The - The Who (1973) 2. Last Nite - The Strokes (2001) 3. Dreams - The Cranberries (1993) 4. Lights Of Manos - Orianthi (2007) 5. Rock & Roll Stew - Traffic (1971) 6. 5. Most of Orianthi's music is pretty generic pop-rock, but she also records some pretty amazing stuff that shows off her guitar skills, like this: Lights Of Manos - Orianthi (2007) Also, I know I nominate ultra-popular groups too often, but I've found yet another song that just has to be in the top ten: The Punk And The Godfather - The Who (1973)
  6. I've realised recently that I am much more likely to like a song if it uses woodwind instruments, especially the oboe and cor anglais. Being a fan of 70s prog rock, I know several bands with flautists, but I tend to prefer the other orchestral woodwind instruments. We already have threads about flutes and saxophones, so we should probably try to stick to the other wind instruments here. To start us off, there are a couple of great Icehouse songs with oboe: Street Cafe Man Of Colours I have previously referred to Epitaph by King Crimson using oboe, but now I'm pretty sure it's just clarinet. My bad.
  7. All of the World Cup groups have one or two teams that are almost guaranteed of making the final 16, but I guess that's pretty normal. Group D is pretty good news for both Germany and Australia - I'd like to think they can both beat the other Serbia and Ghana.
  8. Metamorfosi - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso From that wonderful genre known as Rock Progressivo Italiano.
  9. 1. Elephant - The White Stripes 2. Get Born - Jet 3. Songs for the Deaf - Queens of the Stone Age 4. Kid A - Radiohead 5. Is This It - The Strokes 6. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers 7. Demon Days - Gorillaz 8. Attack & Release - The Black Keys 9. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - Outkast 10. Green Album, The - Weezer
  10. Two consecutive songs on Crime Of The Century by Supertramp are about madness - Hide In Your Shell and Asylum.
  11. I don't think matters how much we take personal preference or influence into account when voting. It's up to the voter to decide.
  12. Correct. Rich Robinson on the left, Chris on the right.
  13. Sigur Ros got 0 buzz - looks like Martin's sneaky tactics aren't going to work. TCV have 1172, though, and are still available at the ridiculous price of 5000 euros.
  14. It's only the first week, and already I can't see myself finishing anywhere but second last.
  15. I guess I'll have to renominate one of Shannon's removed nominations: [bigger]ELEPHANT - THE WHITE STRIPES[/bigger] 1. "Seven Nation Army" – 3:51 2. "Black Math" – 3:03 3. "There's No Home for You Here" – 3:43 4. "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself" (Burt Bacharach, Hal David) – 2:46 5. "In the Cold, Cold Night" – 2:58 6. "Little Acorns" (Mort Crim, J. White) – 4:09 11. "Hypnotize" – 1:48 12. "The Air Near My Fingers" – 3:40 13. "Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine" – 3:17 14. "Well It's True That We Love One Another" – 2:42
  16. It's either Jeff Lynne or someone who looks a lot like Jeff Lynne.
  17. That's pretty similar to the previous lists I've seen. You can't argue with the top two, but Foreman, Frazier and Marciano should all be above Liston. Lewis, Tyson and Floyd Patterson are in pretty close competition for the #10 spot, but I agree with Lewis.
  18. I don't think it's strange at all. It's exactly like Aussie Rules football. The teams all have a strict salary cap and the bottom teams get the higher draft picks. Because of these rules, the AFL has had ten different teams winning the premiership in the past fourteen seasons. In the same period of time, the English Premier League has had just three winners (and this will remain the same for the foreseeable future). Having the dominant teams changing fairly quickly is far more interesting than seeing the same teams dominating every single year.
  19. Hmmm, I'm tempted to nominate White Blood Cells, but the votesplitting...
  20. This is probably the first UTT where I haven't really liked the pre-90s songs. The 90s/00s songs are great, though, and I am so happy to see five favourites of mine from those decades in a UTT.
