  1. I made two reply posts to Dappled and OLD55 above. I even previewed my posts as I had included quotes. Where did my posts go ?? Anyway, Dappled and OLD55 thank you very much.
  2. Thanks OLD55, yes you're right, my very first to reach No.1. CASH's Hey Porter go NO OTHER votes at all. I feel so American (even tho' I'm not) when I hear songs like these. I sure am glad that CASH made it into the top ten with your Ring of Fire. I genuinely felt that your Ring of Fire was a strong contender for the top slot.
  3. You can say that again Farin. This is my first top slot in the top tens. :happybanana: I could have done this a lot earlier if I had not to refrain from nominating the Beatles. I guess this was a last shot at too much of a good thing. Hey Porter got no other vote 'cept mine, however I am very glad that CASH made it into the top ten with OLD 55's Ring of Fire
  4. 1. Hey Jude - The Beatles 2. Ring Of Fire - Johnny Cash 3. Hey Porter - Johnny Cash 4. Don't Do Me Like That - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 5. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones 6. American Pie - Don McLean 7. Maybellene - Chuck Berry 8. Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins 9. Rapture – Blondie 10. We Are The Robots – Kraftwerk
  5. Welcome back RT, really missed your trivia/comments following each of your nominations/votes.
  6. 1. And I Love Her - The Beatles (1964) 2. Oh, Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison & The Candymen (1964) 3. Crying - Roy Orbison (1961) 4. Under The Boardwalk - The Drifters (1964) 5. Ode To Billy Joe - Bobby Gentry (1967) 6. A Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum (1967) 7. Nights In White Satin - The Moody Blues (1972) 8. To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees (1967) 9. Wild Thing - The Troggs (1966) 10. Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - The Temptations (1973)
  7. Comanche - Johnny Horton Jim Bridger - Johnny Horton Sink The Bismarck - Johnny Horton Young Abe Lincoln - Johnny Horton and the list goes on
  8. 1. Hey Jude - The BEATLES 2. Hey Porter - Johnny CASH
  9. Remember hearing this one on the radio not sure who the signer is Check this out : http://www.mamarocks.com/i_am_my_own_grandpa.htm
  10. I like 'that idea' too. I will like it even better if the 'campaigning thread' would carry some sort of provision to provide MP3 versions of select songs to some less fortunate souls --- I'm talking of yours truly of course --- who have not heard of a particular song/artist before, especially if a songfactor wants to canvass his/her nomination. MP3 files are rather large and perhaps this would have to be done by email and not on PTs.
  11. Except for Pearl Jam's "Alive" (1991), Rounds 1 thru 4 have been dominated by the 60's and 70's. Yep, I took a sneak preview at the graph so far; can't wait to see the outcome of Round 5.
  12. After hearing Angel Eyes and liking it quite a lot I acquired MP3 versions of Raghav's other tracks - did not like any; not my kinda music. I think we have a thread for such a case. I could make a post there His hair - no comment
  13. Thanks OLD55, but regrettably I drew blanks on all of the above. Would you belive it, other than (I can get no) Satisfaction, I don't think I know many Rolling Stones's numbers. I must also admit that as much as I am a fan of the Beatles, some of their songs nominated here were unknown to me.
  14. Thanks Edna, but links won't serve my purpose. Even a simple direct download of an MP3 is barred here at the office. There was a time when it was not barred and (we have broadband here at the office) I used to DL a lot. After sifting chaff from grain I managed to burn as many as 25+ CDs, each filled to capacity - averaging 22 songs to a CD. While these songs are my kinda music most of the artists are good if not great but yet unknown. Sometimes I get the wifey to DL at the broadband cafe and send them over to me via email attachments. DL of the MP3 as an email attachmentis ok, I can work around that through a back door !!
  15. No Dappled, I don't think I have. There are times though when I need to be reminded of an old song, i.e. I know it from hearing it on the radio as a kid / teenie bopper, but can't recall the entire song or its title.
  16. 1. Please Mr. Postman - The Carpenters 2. Release Me - Engelbert Humperdinck 3. Ticket To Ride - The Beatles 4. All I have To Do Is Dream - The Everly Brothers 5. Vincent - Don McLean 6. Evil Ways – Santana 7. Witchita Lineman - Glen Campbell 8. Need You Tonight – INXS
  17. Thanks OLD55, but I was just kidding. I think I'm gonna put in just 8 votes this time. Truthfully I have not heard any of the other nominations. On such occasions I'd give my 9th & 10th votes to a known artist of my choice even if I have not heard the song before. Like a few others on this thread I am not able to check out songs even though a link to the video is provided. A lot of music sites like YouTube, and most MP3 DL sites are blocked here at the office. At home it is just not worth it on a dial up connection, besides i just don't have the inclination to sit at a PC after an 8-hour (6 full-day week) stint at the office. I wish there was a way out. e.g. if songfactors could post a zipped MP3 version of their nominations to this thread (not sure of the legal aspects here) or email it to those who would like to receive it. I do know I am missing out on a lot of good music - songs that have made the top ten which I have never heard of. PS: Sorry about the double post.

  19. 'cuse me if I sound dumb, look's like voting has been declared open ? I was looking for the usual VOTE AWAY NOW !
  20. Go ahead with Ring of Fire in your next nomination, it will surely get MY vote!
  21. I would like to nominate a lot of Johnny Cash, (my all time favourite legendary country signer) but wonder how many votes he would get here.
  22. CS, Hey Jude has been on my lista for quite a while now, I've been putting it back thinking we've had too much of the Beatles. Hey Jude will be my next nomination if no one beats me to it.
  23. Goodday OLD55, both your nominations are sure to get my votes.
