  1. It was meant as a general "you", not specifically directed at *you* you and I like such titbits of information cool too... what I'd like to know in return: could it be that Joe Cocker - nowadays - is much more popular here than in the UK/US?
  2. A-ha isn't a one-hit-wonder... apart from Take on Me I can immediately think of "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and "Crying in the Rain" which must've done very well in the German charts and I can just bet that they were HUGE in Norway Devo isn't a one-hit-wonder here either - because they didn't have any... at all... not even close (that doesn't mean that they're not awesome, of course ) as for Faith No More, I think "Easy" was bigger in Europe than Epic, funny how that works, isn't it? Always reminds me of Gary Numan / Tubeway Army, who's considered to be a OHW in the US too - with "Cars", while in Europe "Are 'Friends' Electric?" performed better in the charts. Overall a nice list, I can really agree that Devo, Faith No More and Chumbawamba are definitely worth checking out, if you only know one song
  3. and we have a winner incidentally Ike Turner did appear in their previous album Demon Days, playing the awesome piano part of Every Planet We Reach Is Dead Yeah, I know. But it's a fine line between a question being too easy or too hard.
  4. Mark E. Smith Mick Jones (The Clash) Bobby Womack Ike Turner Lou Reed Mos Def Gruff Rhys Snoop Dogg Little Dragon De La Soul hint
  5. That's about US sales, right? I don't think Taylor Swift is that popular here but all in all the selection doesn't really surprise me... that's what you get when you compile lists based on sales... "charts" are absolutely useless when it comes to determine musical value or quality, surely that's not news to you
  6. is that different from people in other countries?
  7. nope, it's actually music related I'll add a couple of names to make it easier more confusing Mark E. Smith Mick Jones (The Clash) Bobby Womack Ike Turner Lou Reed Mos Def Gruff Rhys Snoop Dogg (there's still only one that doesn't fit)
  8. Farin

    Who is that?

    that's right too difficult?
  9. Even better than Citizen Kane? interesting
  10. You really think I would use that just after the last answer? No, sorry Before anyone can think of it, it's also not that Ike Turner is the only deceased person of the five... purely coincidence.
  11. could be a bit more difficult... or maybe not Mark E. Smith Mick Jones (The Clash) Bobby Womack Ike Turner Lou Reed
  12. That's a very good translation in this vid. Wir Sind Helden, and especially singer Judith Holofernes (biblical reference, btw), had and still have one of the healthiest attitudes when it comes to fame and the music as an industry I've seen.
  13. ah, they're all called "Smith" very clever (yeah, I looked it up)
  14. all the other ones are the only ones who don't use their real name? do I have to look up PJ Proby and Marty Wilde to get it?
  15. no spotify in DE the new The Decemberists live album isn't bad though
  16. It's pronounced exactly like the surname of designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, if that helps aka Kirsty MacColl, but awesome selection! (she) You're a bum, You're a punk (he) You're an old slut on junk Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed (she) You scumbag, you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last Get Out of My House ~ The Streets feat. MC C-Mone ...pretty self explanatory, just listen to it Je t'aime... Moin non plus ~ Serge Gainsbourgh feat. Jane Birkin ...don't know if this is enough drama, but at least "I love you - neither do I" implies some there are also some German songs I can think of, but I don't think you'd be very interested in those
  17. I don't know PJ Proby or Marty Wilde, but Morrissey is the only one who uses his real name?
  18. I'm not saying that it's a wrong translation, just something I noticed... and yeah, he's in Inglorious Basterds too
  19. that's exactly what I meant! woohoo all four bands have split, but only R.E.M. hasn't reformed
  20. also technically correct, but not what I was looking for... maybe I should have used 6 examples instead of 4 to avoid all these accidental coincidences... if you can't think of "my" explanation by tomorrow I'll just give it and one of you can have the next turn
  21. technically that's true, but not what I was going after
  22. Finished the internet? Why yes, of course... you mean you haven't?
  23. The Stone Roses R.E.M. Soundgarden Pixies
  24. Bif Naked isn't a group.
