  1. Another well-hyped band that's earned all the acclaim: Savages. Their debut, Silence Yourself, is AMAZING.
  2. Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan (1991) - Originally by Jimi Hendrix Atlantic City - The Hold Steady (2009) - Originally by Bruce Springsteen Police and Thieves - The Clash (1977) - Originally by Junior Murvin
  3. Not an easy task (how do you compare, say, The Godfather to The Jerk?), but I think these sixteen would probably be around the top of my list most days. Raiders of the Lost Ark Inception Vertigo Dr. Strangelove Star Wars Monty Python and the Holy Grail 2001 The Dark Knight Goodfellas Life of Brian Pulp Fiction Apocalypse Now The Big Lebowski Chinatown Casablanca Fight Club
  4. There are few classic rock bands I find more dull than Bad Company. But hey, that's only like, my opinion, man.
  5. "Thank you for your interest, but I am afraid that your GPA fall's well bellow the minimum required for admission to our graduate program." Says the Professor who doesn't know the difference between falls and fall's or below and bellow. F**k my life.
  6. The new Stooges album is much better than it has any right to be.
  7. Definitely an original talent. 49 is too young.
  8. Yeah, I definitely get the Liz Phair comparison with that song.
  9. 1. Torn And Frayed - The Rolling Stones (1972) 2. Who Loves The Sun - Velvet Underground (1970) 3. If I Ever Leave This World Alive - Flogging Molly (2002) 4. Wherever I May Roam - Metallica (1991) 10. Wrap It Up - Sam & Dave (1968)
  10. Very timely. That's a perfect example of a much-hyped album that didn't do much for me.
  11. Usually when a new artist gets blown up by a bunch of hype I treat it with some skepticism, but Jake Bugg is the real deal. He's a British songwriter who is steeped in his influences, from Oasis to the Beatles to Dylan, but he definitely combines them into his own voice. I'd recommend this guy to the SF community, he could have come right out of the 60s.
  12. Dancing Barefoot - Patti Smith (1979) The Sunset - The Thermals (2013) Love Is Blue - Jeff Beck (1968) (Nice reminder of this little gem on last night's Mad Men)
  13. I have. It's very good. Ripely Pine by Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is the early contender for debut album of the year.
  14. Classic VU! Should have been in a looong time ago.
  15. 1. I'm Waiting For The Man - The Velvet Underground (1967) 2. Rebellion (Lies) - Arcade Fire (2004) 3. Atomic Punk - Van Halen (1978) 4. Further On (Up the Road) - Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band (2002) 5. Born Under A Bad Sign - Albert King (1967) 6. Don't Play No Games That I Can't Win - Beastie Boys And Santigold (2011) 7. Sing A Song - Earth, Wind, & Fire (1975) 8. Apple Scruffs - George Harrison (1969) 9. Until The End Of The World - U2 (1991) 10. What It Takes - Aerosmith (1989)
  16. Heart of Oak by Anciients is easily the best metal album of the year so far. At least until the new Sabbath comes out...
