  1. FLIES ON YOU feature on a just-released compilation album called "INTO THE LIGHT". We are on Volume 3 of this triple album: Link to Into The Light Vol 3 The album has been compiled and released by Dandelion Radio DJ, Mark Whitby, who says "the album features a whole range of artists and bands, many of whom have featured on my Dandelion Radio show and others who will no doubt do so in the future. All of them deserve to be heard by a wider audience and hopefully this release will go some way towards achieving that. The album is also dedicated to the Russian band Pussy Riot, whose members were jailed for two years for the 'crime' of protesting against Russian president Vladimir Putin in a Russian Orthodox church." All tracks have been donated by the artists, bands and labels listed, with all proceeds going to voiceproject.org/programs/pussy-riot-support-fund.php, Any money you opt to donate will go towards supporting Pussy Riot's campaign for justice and to supporting their families while they're in jail. Alternatively, you can grab the album for nothing and donate directly if you prefer.
  2. Everybody stunned by your omission of Flies On You's "Nothing To Write Home About", I suspect.
  3. I might be mistaken, but I think this post might be in the wrong forum. It doesn't strike me as "Get The Word Out" material. Maybe would be better somewhere in Music Discussion? Video of The Day? I dunno, just trying to be helpful.
  4. Loving your enthusiasm, Rayzor! It is a great tune, isn't it?! Sadly, it's a cover version, so not one of our own. But if we keep working at it the great tunes'll surely come.
  5. Here's the video to the new free download single: FLIES ON YOU ~ "Dead Pop Stars" :pianist:
  6. Hey, people! FLIES ON YOU announce the release of a free download single: Dead Pop Stars Video to follow!
  7. Well, fondle me gently and tell me it's Friday! FLIES ON YOU are featured on the latest WATT FROM PEDRO show! You heard correctly. The legendary Mike Watt is playing Flies On You on his radio show. Yeah, Mike Watt of The Minutemen, Firehose, Ciccone Youth, Iggy Pop's band. That Mike Watt. The WATT FROM PEDRO SHOW :sing1:
  8. To clear up the confusion, THIS IS ME. From this you'll be able to work out which of the characters in the "Slashing It Down" video is also me. :-) Incidentally, I think I forgot to mention that Mark Whitby on Dandelion Radio Link not only features one of our tracks on his September show, but is so taken with the album, he as asked us to do a radio session for broadcast in March 2013.
  9. The patron of WHATEVER68, Lisa, played FLIES ON YOU ten times, that's TEN TIMES, (I kid you not), on her show on Tuesday. Whatever68 Radio is a cracking punk rock radio station, based in California. Since there aren't many fans of punk rock, hardcore, anarcho-punk, thrash, street-punk, ska, etc. at Songfacts, I'm not sure how much it would appeal to any of you, but I listened for a while and enjoyed it immensely.
  10. Tony Thornborough's (Not Bad) Radio Show This show went out live last night. The DJ, who I can assure you I had never seen, spoken to or even heard of until last week, has taken a liking to our album - declared it his "Album Of The Year" on air! - and played 3 Flies On You tracks on his inaugural Monday Night Show; the show-opener, the closer, and one bang in the middle. :-)
  11. Cheers for the feedback, Farin. 1) I'm pleased that you "quite like it", although a bit more enthusiasm wouldn't go amiss. 2) Obvious Steve Albini influences? Comrade Andy is mostly responsible for the musical side of things, and I don't think Albini is an influential figure in his scheme of things, so it's an interesting observation you make there.Kindly elaborate, plz. 3) Cool basslines. Yeah. Or bass sounds. One thing Andy and I agree on is the absolute superiority of the Jean Jacques Burnel bass sound. 4) Variety is indeed one of the album's strengths, I agree. No one track is very much like another. 5) The female vocals on Dub Cities: that is actually our 13 yr old daughters. :cuttie: 6) You hear The Mob when listening to "The Sink". Another interesting observation. I play the bass on that one; the bassline is actually an assimilation of a vocal melody from a Rudimentary Peni tune, slowed down beyond recognition. I played the bassline, Andy recorded it, looped the best bits, then created an ambient soundscape (using only electronic sounds) to accompany it. I then added the vocals, choosing to use a fairly sweet vocal tone, (for once), in juxtaposition to the brutal frankness of the lyric. To be honest, any resemblance to The Mob is wholly unintentional and coincidental. But when my missus heard this track recently, she made exactly the same observation... 7) Ah yes, Schmutziger Hund. I'm pleased you like that one. I'll save any revelations about Schmutziger Hund for the SongFacts songwriter interview. 8) "Slashing It Down" does seem to be the most immediately catchy tune, the potential hit single, but there are other songs I think are much better. But it is a damn catchy tune 9) I don't think it is a ping-pong ball in Shipmanesque, but I hear what you mean. :sing1:
  12. "Nothing To Write Home About" is "featured album" on the excellent Fat Latch Radio Show (Broadcast #37): Listen Here It's a great show with tracks by the likes of Guided By Voices, The Pretenders, John Cooper-Clarke, Shellac, Johnny Cash, Velvet Underground, Earth Wind & Fire, Mudhoney, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Four Tops, etc. :partytime1:

  14. For the benefit of these two jesters, and anybody else who might be interested; if the Medals Table were reorganised on a per capita basis (ie. medals won per head of population) Team GB wins the contest hands down. So how do you feel now, suckers? Better still; my own county of Yorkshire, if it had competed the Games in its own right, finished 12th in the Medal Table, above the likes of Netherlands, South Africa, Czech Republic, Spain, Ukraine, Cuba, Jamaica, etc., thanks to incredible performances by thefantastic Jessica Ennis (Women's Heptathlon) , the Brownlee brothers (Gold & bronze in the Triathlon, from Leeds), Nicola Adams (the women's Boxing gold medallist, from Leeds), Ed Clancy, (cyclist), Lizzie Armitstead (road racer), et al. So put that in your pipe and smoke it!
  15. Yeah, Le Pen is extreme right-wing, like her father before her. They are dangerous racists who believe in white supremacy and forced repatriation; that's why it's quite understandable for Madonna to put a swastika symbol on Marine Le Pen's forehead. Well done, Madge, I say.
  16. We now have another video completed and uploaded to youtube yesterday: "Spain" ~ Flies On You Caution: this song contains "cuss words" of the effing and blinding variety. Probably not suitable for children or those of a sensitive disposition. Otherwise, please feel free to share our videos with any friends and acquaintances who might be interested.
  17. Film crew? All filming, editing and finishing done by just one guy - my band-mate Andy - using one camera. I'll be sure to pass on your compliments. :-)
  18. VIDEO OF THE DAY: Flies On You ~ "Slashing It Down" A shameless self-promotion, but what the heck? It's this video's first full day on YouTube!
  19. Now on youtube, the video everyone's been talking about: FLIES ON YOU ~ "Slashing It Down"
  20. Incidentally, that track that was played on The Singing Man radio show this morning, "The Last Pop Song", the lyrics to that one began life as a poem which I posted here on SF in the "Creative Writing" forum, on the very day that I wrote it. I tinkered with it slightly to enable it to fit into the song format.
  21. Every week something new and exciting happens; I can scarcely keep up! On our FB page, you can watch the video we've made for the track "Slashing It Down": Flies On You FB page Meantime we've been getting some airplay: Straight in at Number 3!!!: The Singing Man Radio Show The presenter is something of a hero of mine from his great work over the years with The Cravats and The Very Things, so it's just awesome that he digs my band enough to play us on his (syndicated) show!
  22. All good things must come to an end. I first saw Chumbawamba in mid-November, 1983, donchaknow?. Doncaster Co-op Hall, supporting The Mob. (Also on the bill, The Passion Killers, D & V, Benjamin Zephaniah), In 1990 or thereabouts, my band (at the time) Nerve Rack supported the Chumbas a couple of times (in Preston and Reading), and a friendlier bunch of people you couldn't hope to meet.
  23. How didyou do that??? I just called in to say: how's this for service: FLIES ON YOU on Last FM , but you beat me here. How? How? How? I' only found out myself 2 minutes ago!
