However, genres are useful in reviews, when you're trying to describe music.
True. I just hate when you ask someone what they listen to and they give you some pretensious dissertation on some band you've never heard of. And of course they know you don't know the band, and that's why they feel so cool.

Freak on a Leash - Korn (the song is terrible though)

ah ha....I said that somewhere. Music is music. You like it or you don't. Played with skil and passion, who cares what you call it?
I think Led Zeppelin is post-acid neo-white-blues-rock.

Why don't we eliminate the need for these conversations and not over-label our music?

To me, it's more emotional and down to earth than most progressive rock. Take that how you will.
That just sounds like rock. Whatever you want to call it, it's really cool. I'm listening to the songs on that myspace and enjoying it very much.

Just another reason why Phil Collins sucks.

My favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.

RonJon is the victor here. Brilliant contribution, sir.

Hero - Mariah Carey
My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion

I have no idea what rockism is, but here's my two cents on what I think it might be.
I hate how everyone is always bashing prog because it isn't real rock. Who gives a s*** if it's rock or not? It's good music, and that's all that matters.
Woo! Fight those people who do that!

It's not that different...it takes a ton of practice to make good electronic music, and the guitar is one of the easiest instruments in the world to play (the easiest is probably the recorder). And I agree, it's easy enough to make a basic beat...but to make a full song (and a good song) is incredibly challenging and impressive.
However, I agree with you about drum machines in rock (that's what the 2nd paragraph was aimed at, correct?). I mean, a repeated beat is just so...repetetive. And when rockers use drum machines, they don't switch the drums up much, like electronica guys do.
How can electronic music have emotion? It's not organic. Machines can't feel the music. They can't improvise. They can't make mistakes and they can't enjoy a good performance.
I was talking about drum machines to some extent, but there's also something called triggering where you hook up electronics to your drums and they produce sounds/notes that you want. You can make it so that 1 stroke = 4 strokes or some BS like that.

Playing a guitar is completely different from using synths or other computer controlled instruments. Despite your claims, any idiot can program music to be at least listenable. Just like the brilliant hip producers (they make DA BEATZ) electronics guys are meaningless to me.
As a drummer, I vomit when I hear about guys who trigger their sets. Same goes for anyone with a heavy reliance on machines to play their music for them. It doesn't impress me if it's not real.

He had to be the singer of King Harvest too.

That quote just confirms that Roger Waters isn't very bright.

People always think "Stuck in the MIiddle With You" is by Bob Dylan.

Too Much Too Soon--which is the NY Dolls story. Or a book called England is Dreaming and another called From the Velvets to the Voidoids or a book called Please Kill Me. They all make it pretty clear that the Sex Pistols were fabricated with the motive of getting fame, attentions and money. Malcolm McLaren stole the look and attitude for the Sex Pistols from Richard Hell. He made them into a bunch of posuers--I cant believe anyone could have really teken them serioiusly except for old British geezers who were so out of it that they really thought that a snotty teenage boy band could overthrow the Queen. 'The Great Rock-n-Roll' swindle was as choreagraphed as a BackStreet Boys video. I admit there was some talent in the Sex Pistols, but Malcom exploited 'punk' to make fame and money, that's why I want to wrap people upside the head who say the Sex pistols invented Punk or they were the greatest punk band, etc. They exploited punk and killed it.
That's more like it, buddy. That post is actually coherent.

Well you've convinced me. I usually listen to arguments with absolutely no explanation, poor spelling, poor grammar, and no real point.

If you want to laugh at people....Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. John Paul Jones specifically wrote the riff as something you couldn't dance to. The timing is crazy (I'm terrible at times signatures) and even though the drums are in 4/4, it's ridiculously difficult to get your timing right.

Is "Hero" by Mariah Carey the worst song ever?
I say YES! A big, resounding YES! It's just awful. It's the sappiest crap ever recorded. The lyrics are at 4th grade level. The melody is like one huge cliche.
I just remembered how much I hate this awful song and people who think that it's touching and should be played for actual heroes. If I was a police officer who saved someone's life and they played me this song as a tribute, I'd probably kill them.
