  3. Lou Reed is the latest musician to join the Sirius lineup. The Rock legend will host a weekly show on the Sirius Disorder channel (Ch 70), beginning this Saturday, May 17 at 6 p.m. Lou Reed's New York Shuffle will be co-hosted by Reed and music producer Hal Willner. Lou Reed said, “For years, I’ve always been a fan of eclectic radio, such as FM radio in the past when you could hear stations play widely divergent music, ranging from rock to country to jazz to opera. I loved the days when DJs who did their own programming set the bar high. I learned from these DJs and it’s a delight, with my friend Hal Willner, to do this type of radio today on Sirius. We will try to bring Sirius’ listeners audio from all parts of the world that covers the whole musical spectrum.â€
  4. NEW YORK (April 18) - Danny Federici, the longtime keyboard player for Bruce Springsteen whose stylish work helped define the E Street Band's sound on hits from "Hungry Heart" through "The Rising," died Thursday. He was 58. Federici, who had battled melanoma for three years, died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. News of his death was posted late Thursday on Springsteen's official Web site. He last performed with Springsteen and the band last month, appearing during portions of a March 20 show in Indianapolis. "Danny and I worked together for 40 years - he was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much ... we grew up together," Springsteen said in a statement posted on his Web site. Springsteen concerts scheduled for Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Saturday in Orlando were postponed. Federici was born in Flemington, N.J., a long car ride from the Jersey shore haunts where he first met kindred musical spirit Springsteen in the late 1960s. The pair often jammed at the Upstage Club in Asbury Park, N.J., a now-defunct after-hours club that hosted the best musicians in the state. It was Federici, along with original E Street Band drummer Vini Lopez, who first invited Springsteen to join their band. By 1969, the self-effacing Federici - often introduced in concert by Springsteen as "Phantom Dan" - was playing with the Boss in a band called Child. Over the years, Federici joined his friend in acclaimed shore bands Steel Mill, Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom and the Bruce Springsteen Band. Federici became a stalwart in the E Street Band as Springsteen rocketed from the boardwalk to international stardom. Springsteen split from the E Streeters in the late '80s, but they reunited for a hugely successful tour in 1999. "Bruce has been supportive throughout my life," Federici said in a recent interview with Backstreets magazine. "I've had my ups and downs, and I've certainly given him a run for his money, and he's always been there for me." Federici played accordion on the wistful "4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" from Springsteen's second album, and his organ solo was a highlight of Springsteen's first top 10 hit, "Hungry Heart." His organ coda on the 9/11-inspired Springsteen song "You're Missing" provided one of the more heart-wrenching moments on "The Rising" in 2002. In a band with larger-than-life characters such as saxophonist Clarence Clemons and bandana-wrapped guitarist "Little" Steven Van Zandt, Federici was content to play in his familiar position to the side of the stage. But his playing was as vital to Springsteen's live show as any instrument in the band. Federici released a pair of solo albums that veered from the E Street sound and into soft jazz. Bandmates Nils Lofgren on guitar and Garry Tallent on bass joined Federici on his 1997 debut, "Flemington." In 2005, Federici released its follow-up, "Out of a Dream." Federici had taken a leave of absence during the band's tour in November 2007 to pursue treatment for melanoma, and was temporarily replaced by veteran musician Charles Giordano. At the time, Springsteen described Federici as "one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return." Besides his work with Springsteen, Federici played on albums by an impressive roster of other artists: Van Zandt, Joan Armatrading, Graham Parker, Gary U.S. Bonds and Garland Jeffreys. You'll be missed Danny, R.I.P.

  10. I use cumin since I like Cuban recipes, I like the smokey flavor of it, and a little dash in chilli is alway good! Hope you're making the hot crusty buttered french bread, you need it for the juice, delish!!
  11. Kevin, let me know how the stew comes out. Going to use that rub, we grill out a lot and I'm always looking for new ways to cook chicken or pork on the grill.

Parmesan cheese, grated 2 tbs of sugar Chop cauliflower into bite-size florets. Peal and half the onion and slice thinly. Cook the bacon, cool and crumble up. 17. You're Welcome Martin! Having spent many summers in Key West, I love Cuban food. This soup is yummy and I fix this quite often. Cuban Pork and Garbanzo Bean Soup 1 pound pork tenderloin 1 teaspoon olive oil 3/4 cup diced onion 1/2 cup Burgundy or other dry red wine 1 cup diced red bell pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 (10 1/2-ounce) cans low-sodium chicken broth 2 (15-ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained 6 cloves garlic, minced cooking spray Trim fat from pork, and cut pork into 1/2-inch cubes. Coat a Dutch oven with cooking spray; add oil, and place over medium-high heat until hot. Add pork; cook 3 minutes or until browned. Add onion and wine; cook 3 minutes. Add bell pepper and remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with warm cuban bread, or french bread.
  18. Martin, you could cook the recipe in the oven, just layer as the recipe calls for and use a deep covered casserole type dish and probably best to cook at 350 for about an hour. Just check to see if the potatos are tender, not mushy, same for the carrots.
  19. Oh just a sidenote, my Mom said you can add 1/2 cup of your favorite red wine if you want to zip it up a bit! Rach, slow cookers are great! I've never had a problem with one and I've been using them over 20 years now. I do replace them about every 6 years or so, just so I don't run into a problem.
  20. I love crock-pots, working all week they are a blessing. Here is a recipe from my Mom and it goes over good with kids. The name came from my Mom who did the recipe when my Dad took a bunch of us kids to Cedar Point and this what was waiting for us to eat when we got home. Cedar Point Stew 4 potatoes halfed and sliced, peels on 1 onion halfed and sliced 1 box of frozen peas 3 large carrots peeled, halfed and sliced 2 can beef broth 1 can chopped tomatoes 2 lbs browned hamburger or ground turkey Put potatos on the bottom of crock-pot, then carrots, then onions, then meat, then peas. Pour tomatoes in and the beef broth. Pepper to your taste, you won't need to salt enough in the tomatoes and broth. Cook on low 8 hours or on high 5 hours. Serve up in bowls with warm buttered crusty french bread.
