  1. Maybe it's "Don't Cry Out Loud" by Melissa Manchester. I don't know if 1970 was the year it came out, but it was a '70's song.
  2. Another good Mark Twain one: "Money is not the root of all evil, lack of money is the root of all evil"
  3. Haven't seen it, but I hear "Super Size Me" is a pretty good one. It's by a guy named Morgan Spurlock who, as an experiment, eats nothing but McDonald's for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a month. He chronicles how his health deteriorates, he gains weight, etc. Don't know if he's trying to make a statement, or if it's just an experiment, but it sounds interesting.
  4. As a kid, I owned a copy of the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. Couldn't get enough of it. I think when my family moved, we gave it to my cousins, so I don't even have it to torture my kid with I love the Forrest Gump soundtrack!! My mother has all of our original Star Wars toys in storage. I like them 10 times better than the new ones. I loved how the light sabers slid out of their arms! We also had a light saber and my brother had a land speeder and an X-wing fighter.
  5. I got that CD based on your recommendation, elvish. I like it. It does have a Santana/Los Lobos vibe to it.
  6. I got a song called "Unzip" by ABC. Is that it?
  7. By trash do you mean bad or "nasty"? MacArthur Park by Donna Summer is bad More, More More by Andrea True and Love to Love You Baby by Donna Summer are "nasty"
  8. I can think of two off the top of my head: Papa Don't Preach - Madonna (teen pregnancy) and What Would You Do? - City High (teenage mom) Both are pop, but try them out, they may help
  9. "Nobody walks in LA...walking in LA...ay!" Yes, I am too old. I not only recognize but sing along to the songs played in the supermarket!!
  10. I don't have one favorite, but I never get tired of listening to these songs: Moondance - Van Morrison Imagine - John Lennon Levon - Elton John Un Amor - The Gypsy Kings A Different Corner - George Michael (stop laughing!!!) Pride (In the Name of Love)& Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U2 I'll probably think of more later.
  11. If you like greatest hits compilations, like I do, then try "Best of Bowie" "ZZ Top's Greatest Hits" and The Rolling Stones' "Forty Licks" I also like the Squeeze's "Singles"
  12. There's a song currently on the radio called "Turn Me On" by Kevin Lyttle. OMG, it's this horrible tuneless falsetto. A guy with his family jewels caught in a vice would sound better.
  13. I must have worn out the grooves on Thriller (I had the album). I knew all the words and studied the moves whenever they played one of MJ's videos. I also like showtunes. I have the Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Chicago and Guys and Dolls soundtracks..plus a Cole Porter CD.
  14. I think Terry Bozzio was the lead singer of Missing Persons in the '80's, right? I haven't heard of what you were talking about, but if you know Missing Persons, does it sound similar (lots of keyboards, hiccupy lyrics?)
  15. I know they're not "Unknown", but they don't get much chat here on the boards. I just checked out their self-titled debut CD and I think I'm going to be listening to it a lot. When I bought it on Amazon, the group was compared to Joy Division (I have never listened to them, so I don't know if that's true). Entertainment Weekly put them on their "Must" list and put their album among the "12 alternative albums you need to own", if that means anything to anybody. Check them out.
  16. OMG, after being on this site for a while, I think I'd hide my whole record collection (mostly mainstream pop). I realized how narrow my horizons are, musically, but I am trying to expand and listen to different stuff. For a while, I did hide my '80's stuff, but now, it's nostalgia! At least I don't own any Britney.....
  17. 1. Cookies n cream (Oreo, whatever it's called), is my favorite 2. Something's Gotta Give (I go out less than Peaches) 3. PBnJ with crusts on 4. Andy Gibb, 7 or 8 5. Don't care about ink color on my pens, as long as it doesn't rub off on my hand (I'm a leftie) 6. Blue 7. Clothes or books 8. Team Cheerios (healthy) or Reeses Puffs (unhealthy) 9. A. Just because it was first, I guess 10. "I don't like human nature, but I do like human beings" Ellen Glasgow
  18. From Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning": "How can we dance when our Earth is turning" I used to think it was: "How can we dance when our heads keep turning". I knew it didn't make sense, but I couldn't understand the guy In "Tubthumper", in the chorus: "I get knocked down, but I get up again They're never gonna keep me down" A friend of mine thought it was: "I get knocked down, but I get up again I'm gonna have another drink because" Another Beck song "Where it's at...got two turntables and a microphone" I thought: "Where it's at...gotta tap, tap, tap it on the microphone"
  19. It is a little early to get '90's nostalgic, but it did remind me of some great songs that I'd forgotten about, and some movies, too. The commentators haven't been as funny, they've been more crude than anything, but you gotta love Mo Rocca and Hal Sparks
  20. In the early '80's they played at Six Flags Great Adventure and I remember going to see them there...my first "concert". I had a thing for JT Taylor (lead singer). Jungle boogie!
  21. How about "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon
  22. I am about to reveal my true geekness and say that I like those VH1 "I love the ..." shows. I was watching the '90's ones over the last couple of weeks. If nothing else, some of the musical choices are funny. In the hour dedicated to '98, they talked about Dole and his Viagra commercials and showed a clip of his wife Elizabeth saying "It's a very good drug". In the background of this clip: "Doin' It" by LLCool J. Had to laugh. Anyone else want to admit to their geekdom? Bueller?
  23. I had a crush on Andy Gibb, too, but then again, I was 8. I was too young to see "Saturday Night Fever", but I owned the album (yes, album, kids, those black discs big as dinner plates with grooves in them and a hole in the middle for loading on the turntable) I loved KC and the Sunshine band, too. "shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake...shake your booty"
  24. I found the singer of the response song. Frankee and the song is F**k you right back Charming pair, those two, huh? There's also a response to "I Don't Want to Know" by Mario Winans, but I don't know it.
  25. You're right, without the Spice Girls, we wouldn't have the musical genius that is Britney Spears
