Thanks Phil.
Sarah Vaughan is one of my all time favourite singers. -
486 views to date. I hope remembering these great old songs brings back happy, maybe sometimes sad but fond, memories to those who know them.
I remember buying the 45 of the Poni Tails 'Born Too Late' when I was on holidays with my parents (over 55 years ago) and having to wait two weeks until I got home to play it on my record player. 1958 was the year that singles started being issued in stereo.

-
22 songs to listen to ! I liked 'Brighter Than Sunshine', although I probably would have turned off the picture if I knew Ashton Kutcher was in it.
And I liked the Robert Gordon/ Link Wray song. :guitar:
I'll listen to the others later.
-
I've nominated Susie-Q this week in the Top Ten. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Dale Hawkins before. I thought he was black 'soul' and that's a compliment. Funny how you get an impression in you mind of a singer. I've got the 45 of 'Hand Jive' somewhere. I'm glad you think the songs are getting better Chutz !
Laurie, you're probably surprised that I didn't place 'At Last' higher. I'm sure it would be in some people's all time Top Ten.

Thanks Phil. Learning The Blues has always been my favourite Sinatra song.

Funny, but when we first started the Ten we nominated songs that didn't appear regularly in the Songfacts Daily/Weekly Top Tens; the same ones seemed to pop up there all the time, although there is a lot more variety now. Of course, it was never intended as a 'substitute' for those, but one in which we could interact.
Brad had the first #1 in our Ten with 'My Sharona' and I could only sneak the immortal 'Runaway' into #9. (Where will that place in my 1955-63 Top 500 ?)
We did suggest then "no obscure B sides or album tracks", but if people are happy that's fine. I don't want to listen to 25 songs I don't know each week though.
How about a "recruiting" drive ? I know Joe is not too well, but where's Lucky, Pinkstones, RonJon, cyberjudge etc. ?
Anyway, full credit to those who've kept it going.
I will participate next week. Give me a few I know and can vote for please.
-
Well done Kenne. I didn't notice there were 3 songs X 2 tied on points. Have to be a first !

We're half way there.

Sure Kenne.
I had a look earlier this week and only knew "The Living Years". That would be my #1. -
Sorry I didn't nominate this week. I only know 4 of the songs. Singles are my thing - I rarely buy any albums (except Oldies Compilations).

You'd get my vote Elena.

I guess the record company wanted to appeal to the surf crowd and since they had no surf music artists, they re-marketed Freddy's previous album to appeal to the surfers. The things they'll do to make a buck.

Read about what they did here: Freddy King Goes Surfin'
Here are close-up pics of the front and back album covers where you can read the notes from the album: Front and back album covers
