  1. Thanks everyone! I'm really excited!

    Congratulations, Tim.

Nothing quite like that shiny feeling of acceptance that comes with a new job.

If I may offer a piece of advice: continually search for the means to stay excited about work every day. This will put you ahead of 99% of your peers.

  2. She was style and class, had a great jazz voice with an amazing range. She made her husband look good. Was the better talent of the two, but was content to stand (albeit fairly equally) in his shadow.

You are right, Joe. She was so much more than that silly Top 40 song.

I say silly because Bossa Nova is not even a dance, as the song suggests.

  3. In the confessional with a 14 year-old boy:

"Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl."

The priest asks, "Is that you, Joey Pagino?

    "Yes, Father, it is."

"And who was the girl you were with?"

"I can't tell you, Father, I don't want to ruin her reputation."

"Well, Joey, I'm sure to find out her name sooner or later, so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?"

    "I cannot say."

    "Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?"

    "I'll never tell."

    "Was it Nina Capelli?"

"I'm sorry Father, but I cannot name her."

    "Was it Cathy Piriano?"

    "My lips are sealed, Father."

The priest sighs in frustration. "You're very loyal. I admire that. But you've sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy for the next 4 months. Now, you go and behave yourself."

Joey exits the confessional, walks the side aisle and sits down in a pew. His best friend, Frankie, slides over and whispers, "What'd you get?"

"A four month vacation and four outstanding leads."

  7. Very deep, but not what I was going for.

Here's a hint: If you've paid close attention to certain announcements I've made over the years you may figure out what ties all these songs together.

I was going to guess drinking rye whiskey in an Irish pub - but that's thematic in only about two thirds of your songs. :haveabeer:

Thanks to everyone who participated and to Pinkstones for providing this list. These 10 songs will be added to the archive and retired.

Note: There was a tie at #10 between Florence + the Machine and Coldplay. Pink was allowed to choose which song makes it in, and went with Florence because she doesn't already have a song in.

    Nice 10.

  13. So I met Tim last night at the Wilco/My Morning Jacket/Bob Dylan concert we went to at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland. We just both happened to go there by chance. My first time meeting another member of the SF community. Cool stuff. AND, bonus, the concert was phenomenal.

Awkward prom date photo of the two of us

Less awkward photo of us with me asking my wife what she wants me to do for the photo.

    Very cool!

  14. Poetry is an engine of fine efficiency designed to transfer emotions to the partaker by a lilt of tone, a formulation of sounds and by portraits produced through placement of syllables. Poetry illustrates itself within each reading by touching the eyes, ears and emotions at the speed of sight; with an effective range between the seismic force of blunt profundity and the power in a single tear falling to the ground. Whether exposing the commonality of the unanswerable angst of youth or subtle submission of an aged warrior, themes in poetry explore the possibilities found in the spectrum that is the human spirit. The poet, sensitive to this task, must ultimately craft with thankfulness and strength of character in acknowledgement for the gift they have been blessed to receive.

Which is the greater dynamic; a vacuum or that available to fill it, the road or its traffic, heartache or love, the reason for conflict or its benign resolution?

I am engaged with some Source that focuses my heart through my hands in response to my questioning, “Who am I?”

A poem read only once is a poem merely trifled with and left to die of loneliness.

To be truly at peace, one must be free

No slave ever spent a day during which

    A war was not waged

    Two people starting war seems

    Too few.

    Two parties needed

    To sign peace terms seems

    Too many.

  15. "Man of Steel."

two people who can't be killed trying to kill each other. *yawn*

    What is up with that?

Are we really that much smarter than the super-villans?

I'm old enough to have watched the George Reeves-as-Supie series in first run. Even as a 5-year old kid I used to think, why is the bad guy's first move upon confronting Superman always to pull out a revolver and shoot ricocheting bullets off his chest? It was as if, 'His flesh hasn't been pierced in the previous 15 episodes by all those other bad guys, but by golly, I've got a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson! He's going down!'

It was like there was a special effects gun ricochet contract that had to be fulfilled each week.

  16. Mine and my wife's first anniversary was on Sunday and we had a great dinner.

Best of all, we both pretty much got each other the same thing as a gift.

I got her tickets to see Imagine Dragons in September and she got me tickets to see Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, and Ryan Bingham in July. It's gonna be a great summer.
