  1. No offence but the U.S. thanksgiving is retarded. It's way too close to Christmas. In Canada our is the 1st monday in october. That makes much more sense.

Holy smokes ! A Troll, and at Thanksgiving,... as well as being a Canadian one at that ! Not to worry all; proper notification has been sent to the Ministry of Trolls, Ottawa, and this matter will be settled' internally' ,Canadian -style --- they'll tax the b------d senseless until he apologizes !

As for now ,let me handle this; " Hey, bugger off, you hoser ! Go out and get a pack of Players Light and a six, and calm down and quit buggin' the Americans, eh !? "

    : :beady:

  2. Yes, "Rock and Roll Circus" -- Best act: Jethro Tull;Best paparazi moment: Brian Jones totally out of it ( they ditched him shortly after);Best freak out: John Lennon introducing his new love ,Yoko , who then proceeds with a 'song'; Best feel good moment: tie: John and Mick sharing a few laughs/ "Salt of the Earth"- finale song by the Stones; Intended best moment : "Sympathy for the Devil", played in an interesting light , I think, as a parody of the 'demonic Stones' they were played up to be. Sound system didn't flatter The Who at all.! :coolio:

  3. Here's the scenario: You're the director editing an auto/bio film of your life's story thus far. How would you soundtrack it ? Break it up any way you like , but for suggestions, say; childhood/ teens/ 20's/ 30's/ 40's etc.

    Ex: Childhood: Avalon -Roxy Music

    Teens : Ride On : AC/DC

    20's : Suspicious Minds - Elvis

30's : Lovin' Cup - the Rolling Stones

  4. Noticing a lot of looks, but far fewer players ;as well as comments that the current games are a bit old now, "please allow me to introduce" this game. Too easy ! The current player comments on the song introduced by the previous player. This could take the form of an anecdote, a love/hate reply, etc. Anything goes, and thus all can play-- no brain teasing. Just remember to put a song out for the next poster !

Gotta have a few rules though and I guess these will do:

    1. Please, no back-and-forth comments/discussions about any particular song. Keep it moving !

    2. If you really don't have any comment/clue about the current song listed, declare "Pass" and introduce one of your own, with of course, a song for the next poster. Later posters are welcome to backtrack and comment on past 'passes', though, by also declaring a' pass' on the current song.

So, all can play, anytime, anywhere, with anyone, and with minimal effort.

To start with : " Little Red Corvette" -- Prince

  5. I've since realized that as far as one-hit wonders go, we're mainly talking about U.S. charts. I say this thinking that Pinkfloyd's earlier suggestion of Red Rider (Lunatic Fringe) wouldn't hold true in Canada, as they had a couple of other hits as well. PF, I'd recommend the album "Neruda" for you , if you liked that tune/style. :coolio:

    A couple of others then:

    Spandau Ballet - "True"

Bronski Beat - "Small Town Boy"

Thompson Twins - "Hold Me Now"

    :headphones:

  6. I'm totally in sync with you there jr, as well as feeling 'uncomfortable' about saying ' I don't like Stairway' around a group of people for whom the song hasn't reached the saturation point yet. It always requires the explanation that you have mentioned ! :P

On a slightly different note: I don't know if any of you have had this experience ( since I live in THE land of karaoke it's a little too frequent); how about when some ass chooses 'Stairway' simply because 'it's a great song, man !' and haven't even the slightest of ability to pull it off. Times like this can certainly give one an incentive to try to live a better life, because you're being given a premonition of Hell ! :: :help:

  7. On Wednesday, Rolling Stone magazine named "Like a Rolling Stone" ~Bob Dylan as the "best rock and roll song of all time."

"No other pop song has so thoroughly challenged and transformed the commercial laws and artistic conventions of its time, for all time," ~ Senior editor David Frike

Certainly it's a great song, but are you all content with this choice or the magazine's reasoning ? Thoughts ?

    :guitar: ::

  8. Without a doubt ticket prices are high nowadays, and the biggest acts charge the most...wait a minute... are you people communists ? ::

Just think ,though, what you get for that ! Ok, let's say 100 euros/dollars,... YEARS of memories ! Yes that's right, years and years of pleasant memories that you can amuse yourself with, or , perhaps more valuably, in 5-10 years from now, say to your friends 'Yeah, I saw U2 in ' 05', and have them look at you with envy/ question you respectfully ! :: Even better, if your mind works this way; sell your overpriced tour shirt to a vintage collector/ sucker and recoup or make a lot more on all your expenses! Anyway you look at it, it's a win-win (unless the show is notoriously awful ). Buy the tickets if you can ! --- and consider this the next time you fork out a $100 or so for Nikes or whatever ' gets you through the night' (cue music). ::

P.S. Don't fear Bono calling it quits. Decent of a man as he is, I think he always keeps an eye on where the bucks are falling from. As far as the original band being together -- would you, or anyone else care if Adam Clayton or others hang around --or would anyone notice ? U2 is definately an example of the triumph of the vocalist over the band (which has a long progression going back to Crosby) and have been hanging on to a thread for years (cue 'Red Hill Mining Town') . The fact that they haven't broken up by now (despite very public grudges ) speaks more for their sincerity toward each other (all for one, etc.) which few other bands in recent history have ever shown .Honestly, if it weren't for friendship ( and the occasional reminder of their Christian -rock roots now and then), U2 would have been called' Bono and Friends' years ago. Granted,' The Edge ' plays a mean guitar which would not easily be replaced--- though, IMO, it could be. :shades:  ::

  9. One of my favorites for not being over-played and a little unusual too is " The Little Drummer Boy" - duet by Bing Crosby and David Bowie. It's from one of Crosby's Cristmas specials that aired ~ ' 73. There 's a little chatter (on most recordings) before the song that you may or may not want to keep, but a lovely tune.

Also, if you can get any Elvis Christmas stuff, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Again, if your like me ,a big plus is because it isn't heard as often on shopping mall/ etc. muzaks-- which can get a little grating by the time the season winds up ! :: :elvis:

  10. I would say F--k, beats me. Having got into the wine cellar now , I'm not likely to give you satisfaction on these very good points ! But, and if you won't hold me to it, war movies have , I think, a different propaganda purpose , at times, to make everyone gush and goo about how great it is to fight the enemy and die for the flag-- regardless of the horrrors involved and that's what temporarily makes those who sign up feel better than those who didn't. Also, chicks dig it too !

  11. Without disputing any of your eloquent points, XXX, I simply have to hold to the line that I don't go for the point-of-view that horror means "no limits". I confess to being a little hypocritical here, though, as I'm willing to stick my head in and check out what's new, but 'tut-tuting' others after looking back from the curtain.

I do believe, however, that a number of film-makers and others are a bit too cynical and believe in 'pushing the envelope' in order, not necessarily to make a better horror film, but to one-up the competition in the gross-out/' I can't believe he did that ' factor. ::
