  2. definitely agree with 'tapestry' also, 'moon safari' by air and 'till the sun turns black' by ray lamontagne!
  3. daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas?! it seems like he's been gone forever!
  4. i've found my earth-angel lookalike - jennifer morrison who plays dr cameron in house! she's just sbout pretty enough to do our sue a smidgin of justice!
  5. my brother for bitching at me for eating less than half a plate of leftover chinese that he got yesterday - the chances were he wouldn't even have eaten it and it would've ended up in the dog's bowl but because i ate it he's freaking out. child.
  6. i'm sure i'd been to the pictures before then but the first time i distinctly remember was when i was ten. it was a friend's birthday party and there was a charity showing of 'robin hood: men in tights' - if you brought an item of food to be donated to the poor then you got in fee. so the girl's mother raided her pantry and we all got in for free - i brought a two-litre bottle of red lemonade!
  7. i knew that would require explanation! barm brack is a type of irish traditional fruit cake/bread. it's called báirín breac in irish (baw-reen brack). it's a yeasted bread with raisins, sultanas, spices and sometimes orange rind and glace cherries. it's sweeter than bread but has a bread texture so it's not really cake. it's yummy toasted! barm brack is part of the irish hallowe'en tradition as well - the halloween brack traditionally contained various objects baked into the bread and was used as a sort of fortune-telling game. in the barm brack were: a pea, a stick, a piece of cloth, a small coin (originally a silver sixpence) and a ring. each item carries a meaning to the person who gets it in their slice: the pea, the person would not marry that year; the stick, "to beat one's wife with", would have an unhappy marriage or continually be in disputes; the cloth or rag, would have bad luck or be poor; the coin, would enjoy good fortune or be rich; and the ring, would be wed within the year. when i was younger we used to have all those things in th brack but nowadays it's only a ring! i couldn't find a good photo of one so here's the bst i could find:
  8. ^ tsk tsk, naughty boy!! i studied this album in music in school and it's incredible - it was so innovative and groundbreaking and the songs are great! isn't part of the 'paul is dead' conspiracy that the yellow flowers in front of the "beatles" wreath can be read to spell "paul?". i an see it, can you??!
  9. a slice of toasted barm brack and a cup of tea - yum!
  10. shannon's right - ella is amazing! i love billie holliday too!
  11. aw bless das and his beautiful family, bet they're having a ball but hope he'll be back soon!!!
  12. that's the spirit! i recently withdrew our family's custom from a local cab company because they never showed up for a booking and i was ten minutes late for an hour long job. when i rang, not to complain but to say it would have been helpful if they'd had the phone on the hook so they could've told me to ring another company, the man was so outrageously rude to me that i told him we'd be taking our three-cabs-a-week custom elsewhere from now on. his response was "d'you tinks i gives a d*mn??! d'you tinks dat makes a blind bita diff'rence to me??! i cou'nt care less girl!" i have since found out that the company is losing business at a ferocious rate and in serious trouble. not that it was my family that made all the difference but... karma!!!
  13. i finally felt better today so my little brother and i went out for an italian meal in this gorgeous restaurant with italian chefs, waiters, the works. there was complimentary bruschettine to start, then we got two main courses, a ham and mushroom calzone and gorgonzola gnocchi, and split them between us. and we had a nice bottle of pinot grigio. then they brought us as amaretto each on the house. it was sooooooooooooo good!
  14. do you have to ask??! benigno is the guy in prison - he has some sweet gentle aspects to him but basically he's completely messed up! i read that almodovar based his character on roberto benigni, the actor who was in 'la vita e bella' (life is beautiful). i'd be pretty upset about that if i was roberto!!
  15. my very first homemade-with-our-new-cappuccino-maker cappuccino!
  16. i imagine it would be hard to watch sections of it out of context as well! like, for example, the bit about the silent movie - it's totally bizarre!! it is hard to watch and it's sometimes difficult to understand where the characters are coming from. but marco is a gorgeous character! almodovar is a headcase, but so interesting!!
  17. i love sawyer's nicknames too! the bad boy appeal is just too hard to resist!! you might be interested in these facts from imdb.com:
  18. congratulations jenny!! s/s is still sick and sick of it!!!
  19. that sounds really positive about your brother, crystal. please god he will continue to improve and make a speedy recovery. if the breathing tube incident is anything to go by, he certainly has the determination to do so! much love-xo
  20. you're right peaches (as always), the whole thing is too much! it certainly gets people talking though!!
  21. aren't jack and claire half brother and sister - it might be a bit too much for him to have not one but two sisters he didn't know about!!
  22. so we're at that window where the season is finished in both the US and ireland so i can actually read the thread! it just finished half an hour ago. i watched the season finale not knowing that it was going to continue with more seasons and I LOVED IT! i wish they had just left it at that. my brother and i both felt that it would have been a perfect end to the whole lot. not even trying to wrap up loose ends, defying convention. i assume it's obvious that the 'he' who's waiting for kate is sawyer but has anybody made guesses about who was in the coffin? my guess is locke, and nobody showed up to his funeral because he alienated everyone by trying to make them stay on the island. whereas jack feels a connection to him because now he knows it was a mistake to leave. if that's the case then i feel sad because locke was such a great man whereas jack was just a bit of a nancy with hero complex! well anyway, i am definitely disappointed that they are making more. i'm even contemplating giving up watching from now on but we'll see how long that lasts!!
  23. aw crystal honey, i'm very sorry to hear your sad news. i hope you and your family will get through this difficult time together. i'll be thinking of you. much love-xo
