  1. hahaha, maybe i AM a bigger geek....!
  2. that's the correct spelling as far as i know. it's not silly to be worried. however, for your friend's sake, it's better to keep those worries from her. talk to us and other people about your fears. not your friend. it won't be helpful to her at this time. if, heaven forbid, her mother's prognosis turns out to be poor, then they will cross that bridge when they come to it, with the support of family and friends like you.
  3. i can understand where you're coming from bloof, but the last thing your friend needs to hear right now is that 'cancer kills'. she and her mother are no doubt acutely aware of this fact. but right now, as radhi says, they need hope and positive thought. your faith should help you at this time. just be there for your friend and go along the journey with her. don't try to predict the future because no-one can. all you need to do right now is offer your support.
  4. ^ dying to see 'half nelson' and have seen 'casino royale' three times - it rocks!!! daniel craig kicks it as bond!! on friday night i watched 'herz aus glas', a movie made by german director werner herzog in 1976. it's very slow and strange. the director wanted the characters to appear under a depressive tracne so he hypnotised all but one of the actors and they perform their lines under hypnosis. it's crazy! very cryptic and random but the scenery is amazing and some of the shots are fantastic. i wouldn't recommend it to the casual film-watcher!!
  5. hee hee i am a self-confessed geek so all the geeking in the world can't hurt me! and anyway das, you're a waaaaaaaay bigger geek, so there!
  6. my friend mistakenly thought the line from everything but the girl's track 'missing' was: 'and i miss you, like the devil's masquerade' it really is: 'and i miss you like the deserts miss the rain'
  7. i think i've heard it before alright, but not in this thread if memory serves!
  8. s/s isn't kinda hates father's day. }

  11. i don't know how to do the bump merge thread thing but here is the old thread for funny misheard lyrics, which bloof just started a new topic on - maybe one of the mods could do the honours and meeeeeerge?!
  12. so pretty elvy!! you and nicholas are gorgeous, and your little princess will be too! ou est das today?! just when i need some reassuring advice....
  13. without meaning to be irritatingly pedantic, i find it much more likely that a scot would say 'och aye' rather than 'aye och'. sorry, just had to get that off my chest!!
  14. i'm having a bit of a naughty phase myself! there has to be time for fun in life!!
  15. ^ what she said!!! my coffee is presently sweetened by the moby track which samples the twin peaks soundtrack. twin peaks rocks!

  17. this is the live recording of jeff singing 'what will you say' with alim qasimov, an azerbaijani mugham singer. it's on the live release 'live á l'olympia'. i didn't know till now there was a video of it, although the quality is poor. the cd release is mastered quite well and cleverly edited. i return to it again and again. the song is just gorgeous!! What Will You Say - Jeff Buckley & Alim Qasimov
  18. the german philosopher immanuel kant argued that the difference between man and animal was that man had the ability for rational thought whereas animals are confined to acting based on their urges and instincts. this is one of the many reasons it's great to be human! although of course sometimes it's nice to let the urges take over...! but i'd like to come back as a butterfly - start off as a fat little caterpillar, go through metamorphosis, feel the freedom of flight and have a transient experience of life and light, flitting from one beautiful flower to another. i have a strong affinity with butterflies - every year on my grandfather's anniversary i see a red admiral butterfuly, sometimes on the altar at his memorial mass. and red admiral butterflies have turned up at other funerals i've been to. also one year on my grandfather's anniversary my mum was out on the skelligs, a few miles of the coast of kerry in the middle of the atlantic and she saw one. it's not reincarnation as they are obviously different butterflies every time. but for me it's a sign that my grandfather's spirit is still out there!
