I'd say yes. "See if you can spot this one."

I started getting into jazz this summer, and now I find it's all around me. Look in your local papers to see if there's a jazz fest or something coming up, there usually is one around. If you're near a college campus it would be much easier to go see their jazz band or whatever. Once you start attending jazz events you get to hear who the musicians are covering, or influenced by, and then you can start getting into that. I personally went to the Michigan Jazz Festival this summer and saw a few jazz groups, one in particular called the Royal Garden Trio piqued my interest. They were more of a 'gypsy jazz' group, I later came to find out. They were influenced mainly by Django Rhinehardt (sp?) and I started listening to his music and it really amazes me. So, like I said, just look around and find jazz, and it'll show itself to you, I'm sure. Good luck!

This seems to be an interesting topic...I think the earliest we have so far is The Beatles, right? I wonder if 'git' counts... I was thinking more along the lines of modern curse words. Any definitive answers?

What was the first famous song that contained a swear word? Who Are You by the who contains the F word. That's the earliest I can think of. If anyone can think of any earlier one please let me know. Thanks.

Allusions to Song Lyrics/ Bands

Led Zeppelin - Achilles' Last Stand I know there's more Zepp stuff that relates to greek mythology, but, it's late... help me out. -
I could never neglect you guys like that, you can expect a nice little review of the concert from me.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback, I appreciate it. When I look at the message boards as a whole, classic rock seems to be the mainstay in topic discussions. From people that all take an active role in those threads telling me to go see Beastie Boys over Dylan says something. So, I've decided to see the Beastie Boys instead, because I don't want to miss an opportunity like that... A friend of mine's mom had tickets to see Led Zeppelin at Cobo Hall in Detroit during what would be their last American tour, and chose not to go because she had an exam the next day... Talk about a missed opportunity there. So, thanks again for the advice.

OK here's the thing. Both Bob Dylan and the Beastie Boys are coming to my area on November 5th. I haven't seen either in concert. I know all the Beastiy Boys' songs and I have been a lifelong fan, and I love their new album. I have dabbled in Bob Dylan and he fits in more with the classic rock genre that I find comfort in. Money doesn't play a role, as both concerts are the same amount (~$40). What do I do? I really want to see the Beastie Boys because I'm excited for their new stuff, and I've heard they're really good live. Conversly, I've heard Bob Dylan is terrible live, but since he's older, who knows how long he'll tour? These are the tribulations of a young classic rock star who's grown up in the 80's/ 90's.... Please advise.

YES! Thank you so much, I have been wondering about this song forever. The problem was that I had no idea who Ricky Nelson was. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. -

It'd be the scene entitled "Jackrabbit Slim's", anyway that's what it's called on mine. -
Pulp Fiction Jackrabbit Slim's

no, neither... before all that, when Vincent was looking around, taking it all in, he didn't know what table Mia was at... he looked at the stage and there was an Elvis impersonator, live, singing with his guitar. -

Chapter 9 on the "wide screen digitally remastered" DVD. It's not the Special Edition. -
The Elvis impersonator was singing an awesome song on stage when Vincent and Mia were on their way to their table. Does anyone happen to know the song title, and if it's not by Elvis, who it's by? I'm not a big rockabilly fan so I am lost on this one. Any help would be much appreciated!

Aerosmith (the name of the guitarist escapes me) uses it for a live version of Sweet Emotion... It's really cool, and I want one; but I would just like to know if anyone has used one before. Are there any other (non-Frampton) songs that use it?
-
I've always thought Johnny Cash's Boy Named Sue was funny.
-
Do any of you guitarists out there own a Framptone Talk Box? It's that crazy thing that Frampton uses to make his guitar talk. I'd like to know more about it, if someone has one and has messed around with it, let me know what you think of it. Thanks!

This looks like fun. I'd want to be Jimmy Page or Jim Morrison. Female- Pamela Harrison. I know she's not a rock star, but what the hell.

Steve Vai's green acousitic Ibanez is just beautiful. A while ago he had a whole section for the guitar when it first came out. The reason I linked is because it says don't post the image without written permission, and nobody wants to get Steve Vai upset at them, you know?

Who is (or was) the worlds best guitarist?
ImThatGuyToo replied to Jillianne's topic in Music Discussion
Yeah, Justin King's really cool. Sad though that all I know about him is that video. I have a couple thoughts... Jimi Hendrix - Most innovative and groundbreaking does not necessarily mean greatest Yngwie Malmsteen - Personally, I'm glad he was mentioned, but being freakishly fast does not necessarily mean greatest Eddie Van Halen - great, but not the greatest Steve Vai & Joe Satriani are really cool. John Petrucci (Dream Theater) was not mentioned. My pick: Jimmy Page Eric Clapton Al Dimeola Santana -
You're going to laugh at me. Spin Doctors- Two Princes. I really have nothing to say for myself.

I spent a whole summer falling asleep to Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits 74-78. I'd always fall asleep right away. I think you can fall asleep to anything as long as you're in tune with it, and you listen to it often enough.
-
Haha, I'm glad other people are as big zepp-nuts as I am. I agree that he's amazing, I was just looking for songs that, you know, feature him. I almost feel bad that he's looked at as the fourth Zeppelin member. I think that his talent is vastly underrated. So I guess we decided on Dazed and Confused. Thanks guys, for your help, and keeping a smile on my face while I read all these posts.

songs about secrelty loving someone and not being
ImThatGuyToo replied to miata_chick_01's topic in Questions and Answers
Frank Sinatra- I Get A Kick Out of You I never realized that this song was about a love from afar, but one day I was paying attention to the lyrics and he says: "I get a kick every time I see you standing there before me I get a kick though it's clear to me that you obviously do not adore me" Interesting, eh? -
Hi all. I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan, and I've been thinking. Jimmy Page and John Bonham each got chances to shine with Heartbreaker, Since I've Been Lovin You, Moby Dick, Bonzo's Montreaux, etc. Some could say that Robert Plant got a chance to shine with Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. When did John Paul Jones get his chance? I mean on the bass, not the organ. Please let me know what you think. The reason I ask is because if a non-zepp-fan asks why JPJ is so great, I want to be able to point to a song or two. For now I just refer to Dazed and Confused. Help!
