  1. 94.7 WSCX is one of my favorite radio stations of all time... have you heard 93.1 lately? They canned all their DJ's and installed a robot, and they play some classic rock now; that's where I heard it.
  2. That worked. I sat around learning to play La Grange and then put on Boogie Chillen and it just kinda came to me. Phew, that was really eating away at me, i didn't know where to start. Thanks man.
  3. Thanks, that helped, a little...but I'm still looking for the tab to the song. Any other thoughs out there?
  4. I heard this song on the radio and I thought it was really cool. Is this band a one-hit-wonder or have they been hiding from me? They remind of me of ELO and Yes (for some reason). Any thoughts>
  5. jr's got it. Worst cover of all time- Madonna - American Pie. Whoever gave her the rights to record that song should pay.
  6. I keep hearing this weird pop-rock cover of Simon & Garfunkel's Hazy Shade of Winter, and it's not necessarily bad, it just makes me mad whenever I hear it. I don't even know who it's by, but it's a female lead singer.
  7. This is a silly question, and I should be able to play it by ear, but I just can't figure out how to play John Lee Hooker's Boogie Chillen. I also can't find any tabs online. Any help from any guitar players/ google gurus? Thanks in advance.
  8. 1970. Zeppelin, Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Crosy Stills & Nash, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Yes, Steve Miller Band all released good albums.
  9. Led Zeppelin III- Hats Off To Roy Harper This song always catches me off guard, because III is a very acoustic, folksy album, and it ends nicely with Bron-Y-Aur Stomp (one of my favorite Zepp songs)...but then, out of nowhere, Hats Off starts and takes off into crazy delta blues.
  10. Maybe it's because I'm listening to The Doors right now, but the first thing that popped in my head was Ray Manzerak. Didn't he play some ridiculous set up of two organs in a corner for certain songs?
  11. Every time I come to songfacts, I learn something. But in my defense... 1. About the simplicity, I didn't say it to try to disrespect the Beatles in any way, I meant it as more of a compliment! 2. About the competition, I meant early Beatles. Once you get into a band, you still listen to their music, right? But I love the list you gave me, I never thought of the Beatles and Zeppelin as being competitive, but I guess in 1970 they were. Thanks to the people that replied to my post, I always appreciate the dialogue here.
  12. Where to start? I've been playing about 4 years now, and I listen to blues and classic rock as well. I think it'd be better for me to post artists to focus on rather than songs, but I can't help myself. Remember not to limit yourself to these songs, these are just my favorite songs to play by some important artists. Led Zeppelin - You Shook Me, Over The Hills & Far Away Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, Wind Cries Mary Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood Robert Johnson - Walkin' Blues, Dust My Broom Eric Clapton - Have You Ever Loved A Woman, Layla Unplugged I think any of these guys are a good place to be if you want to learn songs to play.
  13. Disclaimer: I was born in 1985. 1. What was it about the Beatles, in your opinion, that made them so influential? The Beatles were influential because they drew from much more diversified influences themselves, and that drew people to learn from their music. 2. Would you agree that ?Beatle mania' was one of the most incredible social phenomenons in history? I am not a History major, nor a Sociology major, but sure, why not. 3. Do you think that a lot of the Beatles incredible success was because they were in-tune with what was happening in society, or do you think that the same music would be equally as successful in our modern era? The Beatles would not have been as successful in our modern era because it is much more cycnical and people need more complexity to be impressed. The Beatles had a very simple sound, and it worked with the 60's. 4. Why do you think was the reason Beatles appealed to so many people in their prime-popularity? Because there was nothing objectionable to anyone young at that time, and there wasn't a lot of competition. 5. Why do you think that the Beatles music has appealed to so many generations? It carries a simple charm, I think. It's just pure, they're singing from the heart, and I think people can feel that. 6. Why do you think the Beatles music appeals to so many age groups? (That is, from small children to elderly adults?) Simplicity. 7. What was it about the Beatles music that attracted you're interest? Their influences before them, and artists influenced by them. 8. Do you think that another band could make it as big in the future, and what are your reasons for thinking this? No, sadly. I think the world is far too cycnical and "non-conformist" to all come together and dig a band just because they're great. I mean there's people who dislike bands just because they're popular. 9. Do you think the Beatles had an influence on factors like fashion, drug use and haircuts? Of course, popular musicans always influence fashion, drug use and haircuts. 10. Anything else you would like to add? I love the Beatles.
  14. Wow, I had completly forgotten all about this thread and was content listening to T. Rex's Get It On (Bang A Gong). I'm going home this weekend so I will check out these songs and ask my mom about them. Thanks guys.
  15. I've always wanted to make a color CD, with just songs that mention colors in the title...Purple Rain, 99 Red Balloons, Yellow, White Room, Paint It Black, Leaves That Are Green, etc.
  16. Thank you so much. This is what happens when I stay up all night, my google skills deteriorate.
  17. HELP! I can't figure out if Jimmy Buffet covered Stephen Stills or the other way around. I really prefer Stephen Stills' version, so I hope its the original. Any help would be appreciated. I tried allmusic, coversproject, songfacts, and google, to no avail.
  18. "This is a song that originated in the deep south of America...and ended up here in Earl's Court, if you believe..." -Robert Plant introducing 'In My Time Of Dying' "Guys this is a blues riff in B, watch me for the changes and try to keep up" -Marty McFly introducing Johnny B. Good
  19. Crosby Stills & Nash - Crosby Stills & Nash Wonderful Album, gets an A from me. For some reason I had just gone through life without ever hearing any CSNY and it was a great night when I discovered them. They're definitely one of my favorite bands now, and I'm glad I picked up on them.
  20. EXACTLY. Page I have no problem with, JPJ (if he ever works with them again) I have no problem with...but Plant, I don't want to hear him strain like he did on the Unledded DVD, or even at the end of the Led Zeppelin DVD, in 1979? He could barely keep up. And there is NO replacing Bonham, it'd make so many songs just worthless. So like I said, impossible. About the money, how many commercials/ tv shows/ movies have and Zepp songs made an appearance? All I can think of, ever, is the Cadillac commercials and School of Rock. Other than that, they have refused to sell out. It's not about the money to them, thankfully.
  21. As much as I'd love to see Led Zeppelin get back together, it's impossible. Now if I could go back in time to the early 70s and see them at Royal Albert Hall, that's another story. I'd for sure give my soul to see that.
  22. For the 60's, please don't forget The Who's My Generation, and I think Joan Jett's Bad Reputation would be helpful as well. :guitar: For the 90's, after some thought, I'd say Longview by Green Day.
  23. I've been thinking a lot about this song, and I can't figure out what it's about. I checked the Songfacts and a couple theories were listed, but nothing too in-depth. What are your thoughts? Lyrics: I don't know how I'm gonna tell you I can't play with you no more, I don't know how I'm gonna do what mama told me, My friend, the boy next door. I can't believe what people saying You're gonna let your hair hang down, I'm satisfied to sit here working all day long, You're in the darker side of town. And when I'm out I see you walking, Why don't your eyes see me, Could it be you've found another game to play, What did mama say to me. *That's The Way, Oh, That's The Way it ought to be, Yeah, yeah, mama say That's The Way it ought to stay. And yesterday I saw you standing by the river, And weren't those tears that filled your eyes, And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying, Had they got you hypnotized? And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers, But all that lives is born to die. And so I say to you that nothing really matters, And all you do is stand and cry. I don't know what to say about it, When all you ears have turned away, But now's the time to look and look again at what you see, Is that the way it ought to stay? That's the way That's the way it oughtta be Oh don't you know now Mama said.. that's the way it's gonna stay, yeah. Any insight would be appreciated.
