  1. Just a reminder that we still have a problem in New Orleans. After the Math - N.T. Bullock
  2. Emo When I hear "emo", I think of older bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Fugazi, not really those power-pop or punk-pop bands. But you're right, it is derived from the word "emotional" and is all about attitude. I guess bands that don't have that attitude would be classified under power/punk-pop, so IMO emo is a good thing.
  3. Now that you mention it, any NIN album would make for an awsome laser light show!
  4. Maggot Brain - Parliament Funkadelic Since I've Been Loving You - Led Zeppelin The Gumbo Variations - Frank Zappa Riders on the Storm - The Doors Machine Gun - Band of Gypsys Eruption - Van Halen Marquee Moon - Television Dear Mr. Fantasy - Traffic Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes Girl on the Wing - The Shins Europa - Santana Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower Parallel Universe - Red Hot Chili Peppers Such Great Heights - The Postal Service In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - Allman Brothers Band Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton Mogwai Fear Satan - Mogwai Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age In Circles - Sunny Day Real Estate Tunnels - The Arcade Fire Bitches Brew - Miles Davis Pigs - Pink Floyd Echoes - Pink Floyd Interstellar Overdrive - Pink Floyd (anything else, like miamisammy said) - Pink Floyd Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughan Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins Only - Nine Inch Nails Like a Hurricane - Neil Young War Pigs - Black Sabbath Hysteria - Muse Pepper - Butthole Surfers 21st Century Man - King Crimson Goodbye Pork Pie Hat - Jeff Beck Mr. Blue Sky - ELO Just Because - Jane's Addiction Low - Foo Fighters Karn Evil 9 - ELP The Plan - Built to Spill Heroes - David Bowie Wooden Ships - CSNY Regarding Steven - Blues Traveler A kind of a long list of songs i like, but it gave me a reason to look through my collection and listen to a bunch of songs i haven't heard for a while. I don't really expect anyone to look through it, but i think it's a good list.
  5. I thought the song "Tunnels" was one of the best songs that came out last year.
  6. Here's what I know: "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" - Bob Dylan "New York is Not My Home" - Jim Croce "Tears in Heaven" - Eric Clapton They're not that advanced but fun to play, and I get real excited when someone recognizes the song before the lyrics.
  7. I always thought "Somebody to Love" was a well written song. I was amazed when I found out that only the band members sing all the vocal harmonies on every track of every song. I had to listen to each one over again!
  8. I like Sandy Denny from Fairport Convention, and a lot of other women folk singers from that era: Joan Baez; that Native American girl who sang the song "Codine" and "Universal Soldier" ... what was her name?; and to a lesser degree Joni Mitchell. It's a shame only a few young, attractive female singers today have achieved an acceptable level of repect within the music community solely through the emotional impact of their songs and without having to rely on sex appeal.
  9. The Grateful Dead were alright at best. Some of their songs are kinda catchy, but based on what I've heard it sounds like they needed to practice their instruments a little more. They were before my time, though, so Deadheads are beyond me. Now Phish! I saw them twice in concert. That band can jam! :guitar:
  10. Cheap Trick rocks! My favorite songs: He's a Whore Auf Wiedersehn (sp?) On Top of the World She's Tight Surrender :guitar: Ain't That a Shame (live) Dream Police Oh, Candy I Want You to Want Me
  11. I don't really watch TV - I kind of just leave Comedy Central on and go do other stuff. I will, however, never miss a Steeler game.
  12. I watched a (French?) movie called Z a couple days ago. There was a lot of good action/suspense to actually keep me interested for the whole movie.
  13. Pink Floyd, then Led Zeppelin, then Queen a distant third.
  14. The VU were great - I especially like the live version of "Sweet Jane" with the long guitar solo at the beginning.
  15. I saw this on the daily show - what a joke.
  16. Well, they're a classic rock throwback band, and one of the best I've heard for a while. Of course they're not the Beatles, but not too far off. The singer sounds like a cross between Dylan and Lennon, with a little bit of David Bowie, and they use Lennon/McCartney mirror-image harmonies. Their lyrics are for the most part pretty simple, but so are the songs. Actually, there's not one bad song on their second album, De Nova (I haven't heard the complete first album). I think they're from Chicago, but I'm not positive. I found a link to a few songs from thier website web page
  17. They sound EXACTLY like the Beatles. So much so that it's borderline plagiarism.
  18. Are you thinking of the Coal Chamber song, "Sway"?
  19. Spiritualized ~ "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" AMG review: Amazon review:
  20. The first that comes to mind is the freaked-out, electric violin solo in the middle of Frank Zappa's "The Gumbo Variations".
  21. I used to like to sing along with the Heathcliff cartoon. Heathcliff, Heathcliff no one should terrify their neighborhood. But Heathcliff just won't be undone playing pranks on everyone. There's a race to be on top the competition doesn't stop. Mixing it with the ladies man being charming debonair. The gang will rein supreme and no one can deny. They'll make some history and always have an alibi. So join in the jubilee the cats are great, they'll all agree. You'll find in each calamity the cat's superiority. Huh, ah oh, oh ah oh, ah uh. Huh oh ah, ah oh, oh ah oh uh uh. Heathcliff, Heathcliff no one should terrify the neighborhood. But Heathcliff just won't be undone you should realize he can win it with you!

    Of Montreal

My friend said he met them after one of their shows and said they were really cool. I like all the Elephant 6 alumni.
  23. I forgot I also own a 5-string banjo. Haven't played it for a couple months, though.
