  2. He was the best thing about "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992) as Renfield.
  3. The Eagles' "Hotel California" is a timeless classic.

  5. Mission of Burma Young Marble Giants The Feelies Has anybody heard of them? Each released one album in the early '80s. Each was great in its own right. Mission of Burma was an excellent punk band. They explode with such a high standard of arty intensity unmatched by any band I have heard. Song to check out: "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate". Young Marble Giants were a quirky band from Wales. With a funky bass, choppy guitar, shrill organ, drum machine (no drummer), and female vocals, they released some the most striped-down, catchy punk ever recorded. Song to check out: "Credit In The Straight World". The Feelies are my favorite of the three, and probably the most well-known. Think REM meets Weezer, with a dash of Elvis Costello. Great guitar, great lyrics, and extremely catchy. Song to check out: all of them, but my faves are "Crazy Rhythms" and "Raised Eyebrows". If you're looking for some good music from some forgotten bands, check out these songs for a start.
  6. I get a new fan everyday... I'll add Sex Pistols to the list of overrated bands. Although I do admire them for breaking up because they were getting too popular.
  7. What a surprise! Another critic jumping on the Anti-Metalica bandwagon. How are they 'screwing' money out of their fans? Because they would rather have people buy their music rather than illegally download it? If you don't like it, don't buy it.
  8. No way! Metallica covers grow on me. Plus, it shows they have good taste.
  9. I agree with Edna that Lennon was extremely contradictory. For instance, first he says, "I'm bigger than Jesus Christ," then apologies for being insincere to Christians, then later says, "I don't believe in Jesus," and then he goes and writes a Christmas song a year later....... My parents told me that when the Beatles first became popular (they were in their teens at the time), they were not really big into them like other people. Maybe because it was because the Beatles were too mainstream with teenieboppers at first. As the Beatles developed as musicians, they still did not really become fans. My dad listened mostly to folk-rock, like Dylan and CS&N, and my mom listened to a lot of motown. From what I can tell, they never really thought of Lennon as more than a talented musician and good songwriter, pretty much on the same level as Dylan, Jagger, and maybe a few others.
  10. The German Norman Bates (Heino) Translation: "Dear Mother ... A Bouquet That Never Wilts"
  11. The best one I've seen was a Pink Floyd tribute band. The singer sounded exactly like David Gilmore. The show was interesting, because they played an hour long set of songs mostly from The Wall and WYWH. Then they had a big screen that played The Wizard of Oz, and they played the entire DSOTM album along with it.
  12. I saw him in concert about six years ago. He played the entire gig sitting in a chair, and it last no more than one hour. There was no fire in his playing that night...just a bunch of slow songs for couples to cuddle-up to. I was very disappointed.
  13. I bought the Simon & Garfunkel box set the other day. It has all five studio albums they made together. I already had their greatest hits album but never heard anything else by them. I am glad I bought the box set, because there is almost no duds in all five albums. And they get better with each listen! Does anybody else like Simon & Garfunkel? Do you have a favorite album, or favorite song(s)? One thing I noticed is that each album is slightly better than the previous one. Does anybody know of any other bands that did this? For Simon & Garfunkel, they started out with an almost pure folk-revival debut. My favorite tracks are "Bleecker Street" and the acoustic version of "The Sound of Silence." Then after Dylan went electric, they followed suit, employing more instruments and a greater sense of melody in their second album. My favorite tracks are "I am a Rock," "Richard Cory," and the electric version of "The Sound of Silence," of which instruments were overdubbed by Columbia to produce a magnificent track! By their next album, they really began to employ the complex vocal harmonies and arrangements of the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" and the unconventional composition styles of the Beatles' "Revolver." My favorite tracks are "Scarborough Fair," "Patterns," and "Homeward Bound." Their next album continued to explore broader musical horizons, featureing thick layers of instruments of an even greater variety, creative arrangements where songs sometimes blend into one another, and a occasionally a playful, upbeat quality similar to the Kinks. My favorite tracks are "A Hazy Shade of Winter" and "Mrs. Robinson." Building on these previous qualities, thier final album becomes one of the most texture attempts at popular music in the 20th Century, almost perfecting the combination of thick layers of instruments and genuine lyrics that make it a nearly flawless masterpiece. My favorite tracks are "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "The Boxer." As a bonus, each album includes separate versions of songs and outtakes, which are all good enough to be included in the original listing. The box set also comes with a very informative booklet containing the lyrics to every song, which were consistantly good, and pictures. Each CD has its own jacket in which the disk slides out. Some other reviewers have complained about the packaging, but they are fools.
  14. The story does take place in the East Village... might be close to where he grew up. I am glad it is being made, though. I can't remember the last time a non-animated musical came out! Did you know he is signed on to Direct The Good Shepherd? It has one of the greatest casts I have ever seen in a while! PESCI IS BACK WITH DE NIRO!
  15. No reason other than I'm bored. I personally prefer Dire Straits for the simple reason they wrote Sultans of Swing. But even though Knopfler is a technically 'better' guitarist, and I love his playing style, I believe Peter Buck has come up with some of the most melodic tones on the guitar since George Harrison.
  16. Trainspotting (1996) had a good soundtrack
  17. KING KONG Peter Jackson + Naomi Watts + Adrian Brody + Jack Black + 3 Hours Long Epic = CAN'T WAIT!!!
  18. I recently heared of an an emo band called "Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start." Trivia: Does anybody know what old video game this is from?
  19. Keeping with the image theme:
  20. Can you please recommend some good George Benson songs? What I'm really interested in are songs that showcase the virtuosity of his guitar playing. But any suggestions are welcome!
