  1. For sure...I left off a bunch that weren't truly guitar based, but Davey Johnston of Elton John's Band belongs on the list. I also saw Jeff Lynn and ELO, Thin Lizzy, Dan Fogelberg (don't laugh the dude can play guitar), Focus, Alvin Lee...
  2. Man this is a long list...Here are some highlights and not really ranked: Page, Gilmour, Clapton, Ronson, Rory Gallagher, Brian May, Leslie West, Buddy Guy, Robin Trower, Roy Buchanon, Neil Young, Johnny Winter, Joe Perry, BB King, Joe Walsh, Martin Barre, Adrian Belew, Warren Haynes, David Bromberg...to name a few.... :guitar:
  3. Beatles- Think For Yourself - Paul on fuzz bass.
  4. Nice call! Didn't Ed King (who played lead on Sweet Home Alabama) also play lead for The Strawberry Alarm Clock? :guitar:
  5. Check out all the cover songs on Pin-Ups...it's a hot album.
  6. Is this a record??? 3000 views and only 8 replies?? I guess there aren't many New Years songs.
  7. I don't think you can go wrong here. Lennon is my favorite "She's not a girl who misses much.... She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand like a lizard on a window pane... The man in the crowd with the multi coloured mirrors on his hob nail boots.. Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy working overtime.. A soap impression of his wife which he ate and donated to the national trust.. Brian Wilson "There's a worl where I can go and tell my secrets to..in my room" Too much good stuff. :guitar:
  8. Well, I'm a radio whore, so one of those slut stations might work just fine...
  9. How about Ian Gillan of Deep Purple...also the vocals for Jesus in the original Jesus Christ Superstar. Murray head did an amazing job as Judas.
  10. Tiny Dancer by Elton John & Bernie Taupin. :happybanana:
  11. Do you think "Calendar Girl" by Neil Sedaka counts?
  12. Thanks...I'm listening to the fox on my computer at work now. I'm the boss, so nobody can say anything..thanks. Stones just went off, Police coming on...
  13. One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to find the local classic rock, rock or oldies radio stations. Different parts of the US and Canada have distinct variations when it comes to the music they play. Many stations can now be played on the internet too. What are your favorite local stations? The call letters, station frequency and web address would be great. I'll start: 1) 104.3 FM New York, www.q1043.com Known as "The Q". Plays classic rock like Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Who, stones, etc. 2) 105.5 FM www.wdhafm.com Dover, NJ Plays a combo of new and classic rock. Example, I heard them play Green Day and Steve Miller back to back yesterday. 3)101.1 FM New York www.wcbsfm.com The Oldies Station known as Oldies 101.1 or The Oldies Staion. When they started in the early 70's they played lots of music from the 50's. As they've aged, along with me, they now play music from the 60's and 70's mainly. (that's oldies now folks). But they'll play Beatles, Supremes, Tommy James, Chicago, Jay and the Americans and The Monkees. Micky Dolenz starts as morning DJ there next week. What are your favorites? Give me web sites and cities too. Happy New Year!!
  14. I don't know too much about Beethoven, but I know I like ELO's version of Roll Over Beethoven. Somewhere in the mid 70's, there was a New York radio station that was changing formats from classical to classic rock. It caused quite a furor with the classical crowd. The station announced the exact time of the change over. At 3:00 pm they would stop playing classical and start rocking. So at 3 I'm listening and the first notes you here are the instrumental strains of Beethoven's 5th. (You all know it Da Da Da Daaaaaaa, da da da daaaaaaaa). Well it turns out it was just the intro to ELO's Roll Over Beethoven and when those first electric guitar chords busted in......well as a teenager it was great. (I still kind of like the concept).
  15. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot Abraham Martin & John - Dion
  16. I heard (maybe six months ago) that the women singing on Dark Side of the Moon was also suing them. Not happy with what she got paid vs. the end result $$$$. Of course, she agreed to that amount 30 years ago and she should be happy to part of rock history.
  17. I was lucky enough (and therfore old enough) to see the Ziggy Stardust Tour in 1972 (I think). I was 14 and snuck in to New York (told Mom and Dad I was going to friends house). It was amazing...and Bowie is still kicking butt 30 plus years later. ::
  18. Forgot about "The Needle and the Damage Done" by Neil Young. "Tired Eyes" and "Tonight's the Night" also by Neil. Also "Homegrown" by Mr. Young. I think there's a theme developing here.
  19. "Too Much Seconal" by Johnny Winter. "Mellow Yellow" :happybanana: Donovan
  20. It's very easy to forget about the Hollies but look at the songs already named. Carrie Ann is my favorite followed closely by LCWIABD. Thanks for the reminder.
  21. A few more...Spill The Wine - Eric Burdon and War, What a Day For a Daydream - The Lovin' Spoonful, Dreamboat Annie - Heart.
  22. Mr. Trower spent some time in Procol Harum...he put out one classic solo album...but what an album..Bridge of Sighs. Few can play like him...he sounds like Hendrix without imitating him...I've seen him 3 or 4 times, the most recent in New York a couple years back...still amazing. :guitar:
