When The Beatles "White Album" came out, there was the usual parental protests that it was evil and had vulgar language and references. Imagine that compared to today's music. My parents bought into this hysteria and made my sister (then 16) bring it back to the store. Of course, I immediately went out (age 10) and bought another copy. My parents didn't care what I did. The only "vulgar" stuff I could think of might be the inference of "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" and the word "damn" in "Piggies". I'm sure my parents didn't pick up on the drug references such as "trying to make a dove tailed joint" in "Glass Onion" or "I need a fix" in "Happiness is a Warm Gun". What else might somebody in 1968 have found controversial about the "White Album"??? :guitar: :happybanana:

Black Sabbath to Play First Non-OZZfest Show Rocker Ozzy Osbourne will join his Black Sabbath band mates to headline this year's Roskilde Festival - the group's first gig since last year's annual OZZfest tour. The heavy metal pioneers will join bands including Green Day, Morrissey and Avril Lavigne for Europe's celebrated Danish festival, which will take place from June 30 until July 3. Organizers say the gig will be Black Sabbath's only summer festival appearance. It will also mark the "War Pigs" stars' first performance at an event other than OZZfest in more than two decades.

Jim Capaldi Dies Veteran Traffic rocker Jim Capaldi died in a London clinic Friday morning. He was 60. The "Dear Mr. Fantasy" star, who was surrounded by his family when he passed away, was suffering from stomach cancer. Drummer Capaldi founded Traffic in 1967 with Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. Amid several line-up changes he also sang and wrote songs for the British band, before embarking on a solo career. Traffic reformed briefly in 1994. Capaldi is survived by his wife Aninha and two daughters Tabitha, 28, and Tallulah, 26. Photo Copyright Getty Images Copyright World Entertainment News Network 2005

OK!!! The Happenings did it in 1966 and that's the one I am recalling. The Tempos did it in 1959. Bobby Vinton did it somewhere in there too.

I think he did a version, but not the original. I recall it being several male voices singing the song. Obviously, I'm being extremely lazy or I'd google it myself. Thanks.

How about "See You In September" by ___________??

Tommy is an amazing effort for sure..as far as Rock Opera goes...I'll take Jesus Christ Superstar...that's a piece of art to me.

Feeling Stronger Everyday....Chicago

Longer by Dan Fogelberg. A friend of mine used "Thank You" by LZ...their divorce is almost final...I guess he needs a song called "your Welcome" now!

How about "If I Didn't Love You I'd Hate You" my favorite by Squeeze. Maybe not quite right, but you never know. :beady:

Last one...Kooks by Bowie. "And if you ever have to go to school Remember how they messed up this old fool don't pick fights with the bullies or the cads cause I'm not much cop at punching other peoples Dads And if the homework brings you down Then we'll through it on the fire and take the car downtown" The is part of the song that David dedicated to his son Zowie.

...and how can we forget, "To Sir, With Love" Thanks Lulu.

Teacher I Need You by Elton John "She was long and she was lean she's a middle aged dream and that lady means the whole world to me"

Songs That Make You Want To Do The Deed

Thought about this for a while..it's "Midnight At The Oasis" by Maria Muldaur -
I think that's from "Take It Easy" by Mr. Jackson Browne. Done nicely by The Eagles.

You can't go wrong with "Victim of Love" and "Already Gone". These guys have some bad relationship problems...don't they. "I heard about you and that man.. There's just one thing I don't understand.. You said he's a liar and he put out fire.. How come you still got his gun in your hand?" or "Well I heard some people talking just the other day.. and they said you were gonna put me on a shelf.. Well let me tell you I got some news for you.. and you'll soon find out it true.. Then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself." Actually, they seem to be going on alot of hearsay too.

How about "Power Pop"...The Baby's "Isn't It Time?" works for me.

I thought Marie was cute. that was enough reason to watch back then. :happybanana:

That's a fine approach. I usually use the time period from the onset of the British Invasion until the onset of Disco to define Classic Rock.

This is great stuff...thanks everybody.

I miss the old concept of WABC-AM in New York. They were the powerhouse station for the 60's in NY and could be heard up and down the east coast. they played anything from Top 100 to Motown to bubble gum to rock to psychedelic.etc. Classic rock has excluded much of that particular brand of music. You never hear, say, The Supremes, hardly any Stevie Wonder, Grass Roots, Beach Boys..etc. They now fall under "Oldies" but they are classic to me.
