  1. That's good information...thanks. Any idea about other international performances (Did they play Japan, Australia, etc??)
  2. I can only venture to guess the total when playing as a Beatle. There were those 1000's of Hamburg, Cavern club shows. But how many people fit in those venues?? 200?? the stadiums etc. Maybe another 2-3 million tops???
  3. I think everybody thought this one out well. MACCA TO PLAY HIS 3000TH CONCERT SIR Paul McCartney will play his 3000th gig next month on his world tour. The former Beatle will play the historic concert in St Petersburg on June 20. Macca, 62, said: 'I never keep count so I was amazed when people told me I'll do my 3000th gig. That's an awful lot of late nights. 'I guess I must just like the live life. But, as I've said before, it's what I do.' Although exact records of early Quarrymen and Beatles gigs were not kept, a new count indicates Sir Paul has done 3000 performances. Counting pub gigs, Shea Stadium, radio and TV appearances and the four, five and eight sets a night The Beatles played over three years in Hamburg clubs, Beatles performances total 2523. Adding Wings' 140 appearances, Paul's 285 solo gigs and 40 post-Beatles performances from Live Aid to Adopt A Minefield and the Super Bowl Macca's pre-tour tally is 2988. The summer tour will also set another landmark someone will be the 8,000,000th person to see Macca perform since he turned solo
  4. there's also "See You in September"..many bands.
  5. How about "Night Moves" by Bob Seger. It's about the sweet summertime with autumn closin' in. :guitar:
  6. Doobie Brothers Drummer Knudsen Dies 1 hour, 50 minutes ago Entertainment - AP Music By KIM CURTIS, Associated Press Writer SAN FRANCISCO - Keith Knudsen, the longtime Doobie Brothers drummer who was part of the band during a string of hits that included "Taking it to the Streets" and "Black Water," died of pneumonia Tuesday. He was 56. AP Photo Knudsen had been hospitalized for more than a month, according to the band's longtime manager Bruce Cohn. "I just saw him Sunday, just before the Super Bowl," Cohn said. "He was in good spirits. He was weak, but he was OK." Knudsen began drumming in eighth grade and joined the Doobie Brothers in 1974. "After a week's rehearsal, I went on the road with the band," Knudsen said in his biography on the band's Web site. The Doobies were known for incorporating gospel and jazz stylings into popular hit songs. They also were well-regarded for their live performances. Their other hits included "China Grove" and "Jesus is Just Alright." Knudsen played with the Doobies until the band's 1982 farewell tour. During the band's hiatus, Knudsen and bandmate John McFee formed the country rock group Southern Pacific, which released four albums and had several hits. He rejoined the band full-time in 1993. "He's going to be missed," said Tom Johnston, the band's founder. "We're going to miss him on drums. I'm going to miss him as a buddy." Knudsen, who lived in Sonoma County's wine country, had cancer in 1995 Johnston said. "It left him weak and I don't think he ever fully regained all his strength," Johnston said. He said the band was currently performing about 100 concerts a year and is scheduled to release a new album this summer.

  9. How about "Lady" by Styx??
  10. Daniel is much funnier though.
  11. Paul is still in good voice. I heard an interview with him on the radio. He was told that a recent show of his put him at 8,000,000 fans he has performed for over his career. He said he doesn't track that sort of thing, but it is amazing. I agree. :guitar:

  14. It is in your best interest to listen to THAT album. You'll be sufficiently blown away.
  15. Listen to the entire album...it becomes clearer then.

    Motown.

Living For The City is enough to qualify him as a lifetime member.
  17. BTW, in "Wonderful Tonight" they go out to a party, he gets so wasted he can't drive home, she has to put him to bed and just before he passes out for the night he says, "You were wonderful tonight"....that Eric is a charmer. :guitar:

    Motown.

Most classic rock stations ignore Motown. To call yourself a classic rock radio station and not play Stevie Wonder is wrong. The oldies stations play much more...c'mon classic rock program directors...get Motown in the mix.
  19. Jimi Hendrix House on Shaky Ground Kathy Mulady Seattle Post - Intelligencer The Seattle house where legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix once lived needs a new home. Again. And soon. But members of a foundation that owns the home say they have nowhere to move it. They are worried that the city will demolish it. Three years ago the dilapidated house, owned by Hendrix's father from 1953 until 1956, was moved a few blocks from its original Central Area address to make way for a housing development. The city offered a vacant lot on South Jackson Street, giving supporters a chance to find a permanent location or buy the land and fix up the house. At the time, the James Marshall Hendrix Foundation said it wanted to turn the home into a youth center focusing on music. The foundation's offices, or maybe housing, would be upstairs. The location at 2010 S. Jackson St. seemed perfect. Now the house is falling apart, and the foundation maintains that the city changed its mind about selling the property. But the city said the foundation never offered a proposal to buy the property. City officials want to end the month-to-month lease and take back the land. The foundation has until Feb. 22 to move the house. "There are other potential opportunities associated with the site; we need to extinguish this lease, and are asking them to remove the house from the site," said John Franklin, director of departmental operations for the mayor's office. Franklin wouldn't say who wants the property, but some have guessed it might be part of a land swap with American Eagle, a Dallas company that agreed to turn over to the city land in Discovery Park that it was planning to develop. In return, the city paid the company $9 million and agreed to swap it for other land that has yet to be identified. Others say a nearby business may want it as a parking lot for trucks. "The city is going back on its word. The city of Seattle should be involved in building this community center and this tribute to Jimi," said Ray Rae Goldman, research director for the foundation. "When we made the original agreement, it was inferred that the city was going to help us out a little more than they did. "If we have to move it, the city is clearly going to be responsible for the cost." Peter Sikov, the foundation's treasurer, said the group planned not to raise money for the community center until it owned the land free and clear. "You first have to have the foothold and own the land," he said. Charles Cross, who is writing a book about Jimi Hendrix that will be published this summer, said Hendrix lived in the house from the time he was 12 until he was about 15. "He certainly played his broom guitar there, which he did before he had his real guitar," said Cross. "I feel that Seattle has done very, very little to honor someone who is truly one of the city's great legends." There is also a Jimi Hendrix Memorial Rock at the African Savanna, in Woodland Park Zoo, and a statue on Capitol Hill. Hendrix is buried in Renton, and his gravesite still attracts droves of fans. Hendrix died of a drug overdose in 1970 when he was 27. Henry Lewis, a friend of Hendrix's brother, Leon Hendrix, said some foundation members had hoped the community center idea might get a boost if Leon won his court case entitling him to a share of the Hendrix estate. That hope faded in September when a King County Superior Court judge ruled that Leon Hendrix wasn't entitled to his brother's multimillion-dollar estate. Lewis, who co-owns the house with some other members of the foundation, said he refuses to give up. "If it means putting the house on my back, I will do it. I won't let the house get destroyed," he said. :guitar:
  20. Eric Clapton a Dad Again Guitar legend Eric Clapton is celebrating after becoming a dad for the fifth time - at the age of 59. The "Layla" star - whose four-year-old son Conor tragically died in 1991 after falling from a New York skyscraper - was present when his wife Melia, 29, gave birth to a baby girl in a London hospital on Tuesday. A source confirms, "Baby and mother are doing well." Clapton and his spouse still haven't decided on a name for their newborn daughter, according to reports. The couple have two other daughters - Julie Rose, three, and two-year-old Ella Rae - while Clapton is also father to 19-year-old Ruth, by his ex-girlfriend Yvonne Kelly. Conor was the product of his relationship with Italian actress Lori Del Santo.
  21. I remember how angry I was when rock tickets soared to $25. I have some ticket stubs from premium shows where I paid $8-$10. So you wanna be a rock and roll star???
  22. Beatles Founder Dies Eric Griffiths, the founding member of the band that became The Beatles, died on Saturday following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 64. Griffiths formed The Quarrymen with his school pal John Lennon and was playing guitar alongside the "Imagine" legend in July 1957 when Paul McCartney came to watch the band perform in their native Liverpool, England. McCartney and George Harrison subsequently joined the band that eventually metamorphosed into The Beatles. As the Quarrymen became more driven toward becoming a serious rock 'n' roll band, the original schoolmate members - who had joined the group primarily for fun - slowly dropped out, including Griffiths in 1958. However, Griffiths reunited with the other surviving founders of The Quarrymen in July 1997 for a special 40th anniversary celebration. Griffiths - who was diagnosed with cancer last November - died at home in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is survived by his wife of 40 years and three sons.
  23. Clapton has...not sure about Baker or Bruce. The hands out for a piece of this includes the promoter, the record companies, managers, Albert Hall, the city, the cops, the roadies, the ticket sellers and who knows who else..All nights will be sold out at these prices....what incentive is there to lower the price? Like John Lennon said, "Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall".
  24. Sunshine Of Your Love is one of the single greatest songs ever recorded....in my top 3.
